Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

This was posted on the main thread; it's preview footage from Shanghai Disneyland re-opening:
Somehow watching this video makes me more anxious - I can't imagine everyone following and respecting those rules here at DL, and it doesn't seem like CMs would be able to enforce these rules. I've seen too many line jumpers, smokers, people who crowd in and go right in front of you at the last minute for a parade or fireworks, etc. to think that everyone will follow these rules, have masks on (if that's what DL mandates - which I hope they will), and I can see the markings on the ground lead to confusion. I can see people jumping in front of you when watching a show despite the marked boxes on the ground! What does everyone else think of Shanghai DL's approach?

just watched the first 7 minutes of the video.....
IMO the General public wont go for all that -

in my life, I grade the General public a "D" for wearing masks while out in public as well as a "D" for reading directional markers on the ground while grocery shopping.

IMO get ready for more stories from from Disney parks about Covid infections......

I would agree with you but I do think the first couple of months might actually go pretty well at DL as I think those that do attend will be doing so knowing these kind of rules going into and with the mindset that they are able and willing to comply to the fullest extent just in order to get back to Disney. Now after a couple of months being open, I could easily see those line jumpers, people who crowd in, etc. starting to pop up.

My thought is that if Disney does in fact cap the attendance of DL to start with, it is a big enough place to where there shouldn’t be too much of an issue with areas of overcrowding.

I wonder if Park Hopper passes will still be a thing once they open. If they are looking to cap attendance numbers at each of the parks will they still allow guests to jump back and forth and it will be an overall attendance between the two parks they look to cap or will it be per park and then you may exit the one hoping to go to the other and aren’t allowed in as they’ve hit their cap. So many different aspects to all of this...

Interesting how their research showed it worked better to tell people where they CANNOT to stand, instead of where they CAN stand when getting in, but when it comes to Tai Chi with Donald Duck, they reverse it.
And that reporters are very bad at social distancing! But for the people being the guests, there was much more personal space than there normally is in China, so that's something.

AFter seeing this, I know I really do not care about seeing cast members or other guests with masks. I always thought I would be a little bothered by it, not enough to stay away, but still a little bothered. Now seeing it... I realize, it makes no difference to me.

But I can see how this will work much better in Asia, where following rules is very different from in the Western world. There is less respect here for authority, and people are more entitled... so I do fear for break outs after re-opening the parks.

Yeah, it’s weird to me that people are balking about masks. This has been standard practice since the SARS outbreaks in 2003, but I kind of get it, this is new for most Americans.

That’s why I have zero faith this will work in the US. It’ll be all for show, but at least Disney can check the box and blame the guest.

Reminder, folks: The guidelines apply in this thread, too. Please keep your comments respectful and courteous to others. It is possible to disagree without being argumentative or rude.
Now, back to the show!

I for sure expect them to cap attendance. I just wonder how? Especially with the local population. I think in Shanghai they are doing dated tickets (one day tickets at DL are sort of date based already with tiering), and those tickets sold out in like 3 minutes for opening day  And I think their passholders are making reservations. I just worry that reservations would be hard to get. I get all that practice for ROTR may pay off after all if they do it like that lol.

to be a fly on the wall at those logistics meetings gets my teeth all sweaty::yes::

We could potentially see offers for AP refunds based on age. If the SIP is mostly liftedbut persons > age 65 are strongly recommended to SIP, there’s a strong argument TWDC needs to honor that.

it would be cleaner to a) add a reservation component and b) offer an opt-out, that way you don’t appear, as a corporation, to say “hey grandma, hand over your pass.”

Worse yet, body of evidence indicates those who are obese, have diabetes, and pre-existing lung disease are at greater risk. I can’t imagine a company like Disney explicitly delineating along those lines. It’s gonna be broad. I just wonder what it is.

Another way to resolve this is to not start AP clocks until the date of their first visit after the parks re-open; this might 1) allow APs much more flexibility since folks could now wait until they were comfortable to go, until there is a therapeutic, or when they have time/money to come again (and given that they would not be wasting any of their AP days, this would lead to far fewer complaints) and 2) lower demand at the same time, particularly if there is a very strict cap on attendance/capacity. It seems like a better system than just re-starting everyone's APs from day one of re-opening. I'm not sure if they would actually do this (I would love to wait a bit before "reactivating" my AP, if this is what they did), but I think it would solve a lot of concerns.

It has been a quiet day on this thread. There hasn’t been a whole lot today to generate rumors.

I’m sure some will be watching SDL to see how things shake out upon reopening. I know I am curious...

Yeahh, on another thread it seems like CM schedule rollouts are being delayed, last time this happened was before the closing announcements. Posted this elsewhere, but I think (based on patterns / timelines / SDL ) we'll get a more solid statement tomorrow or the next day. Not likely to happen on Sundays. Hopefully they talk about Disneyland too.

I definitely think the DTD restaurants not owned and operated by Disney will be allowed to open when restaurant restrictions ease in California. Either that or I don’t think Disney can collect on the high rents those spaces command and I’m sure they are happy for anything they can collect on right now. It’s Disney’s choice not to open their businesses but I don’t think they can force the other DTD businesses the to stay closed once restrictions ease. This is the same scenario currently playing out in DTD in Orlando only non-Disney businesses are currently reopening.

Anyone else notice that you can’t seem to book Savi’s, Droid Depot, or dining reservations in July via the app? I know it isn’t for sure they are opening by July 1st but you’d think if they were trying to target the date and also determining interest they’d allow the bookings to occur.

Here are some speculation topics I have read/thought about while reading the WdW boards that relate to DL. They don't include the "M" word lol :rotfl2: How would you think each area could be impacted once the parks reopen? If anyone has other topics, please bring them up!

1. Security- Security guards have to go through all guests' bags and strollers. Would this change so guards have to wear gloves or sanitize between each guest. I feel like that would make lines longer and slower. I know Universal has x-ray machines! I would like that at DL!
2. Shopping- I wonder what shopping will look like? Everyone is always touching everything, trying on shirts, ears, purses, etc. Most rides end in a gift shop, so the get touched a lot there as well. I wonder if they would have to do a "you touch, you buy" policy? I'm not sure if that is even feasible.
3. Buffets- I assume these will be out...but would character dining change to served meals?
4. Transportation- Hotel shuttles, monorail, and the tram are very hard to maintain social distancing on. How would this work?

You can't book dining either :( I tried booking something on July 4, and it says none available, but the date highlights on the calendar.

In the Shanghai video security no longer touches the bags and you have to show them what is inside. The video also states for the shops that you should not touch anything you don’t intend to buy...good luck with that part though, especially with kids!

I would assume that buffets will be out as an option pretty much globally at least for the next several months if not for good in some places like Disney.

Transportation may get handled much like the rides. Some seats/rows blocked off to maintain social distancing and to lower capacity.

Yep, that is what I was seeing as well. Kind if seems to be a little bit of a hint that they are in fact anticipating later than July. I mean if they were to going to limit capacity the reservations are the clearest way to do so as well as a good indicator on demand. Odd that they will take hotel and ticket bookings for July 1st or later but not allow other reservations in the parks.

My optimistic side is saying maybe they won't have table service when they first open around then.
My realistic side is saying they may not be open then :(

I have a feeling the shopping part is going to be hard. Not just for kids, but for adults. I know I touch everything lol. I'm weird. When I buy shirts I have to feel the material before purchasing. Same with spirit jerseys. They don't all feel the same...If the rule is to not touch, I will follow it, but it would for sure make me sad to not have the same shopping experience.
