Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

My first (and last!) trip to WDW was in the baking heat of July...I haven't been back since 🤣 The trauma is real....
My first trip to WDW when I was little was in July. To this day, my dad still complains about how horrible the heat was lol. He's all "if I ever go back to Disney World, it won't be in the summer!" And we are from Las Vegas where it gets well over 100 in the summer. I'm kind of glad I was too young to remember that trip lol.

I ventured into some of the other subforums and there's a LOT LOT LOT more cynicism coming across on the WDW trip planning threads. To be fair, they now have concrete reopening plans and got a lot of their workflow mucked up (i.e. no FP+, reservations, etc...) so I kind of get it. But I also don't because I'm all about the free flowing DL trip with zero plans/reservations 90% of the time.

Poor @VandVsmama started a thread to make people feel better and she practically got ripped apart :mic:

It kind of went like this:
VandVsmama: "Don't worry guys... this sounds like a Disneyland trip! It can still be fun!"
Everyone: "#$Y#*$#*#&*(& you"

Yeah, it's pretty bad. I'm not going to take it personally. They're all understandably very upset and disappointed. I just happened to volunteer to be their personal punching bag. They're welcome to tar and feather me. I'll survive.

I stand by what I wrote, though. It's a good opportunity if you choose to look at the situation from a different point of view than the DIS Boards traditional "I need to plan the death out of my WDW trip and if I can't schedule everything months ahead of time, then we might as well not go." THIS would be a good time to go to WDW if you're looking for a more easy going, more relaxed vacation....if you actually LIKE the "go with the flow" sort of thing a la Disneyland or vacations to other locales.

Many of them have really never experienced the wonder of walking through a practically empty park. Of really being able to go on a ride a couple of times in a row and not have to devote 2 hours to that.

If I hadn't ever been to WDW but had stayed away because of the D Day invasion of Normandy style of planning required, THIS is when I'd seriously consider going. NOW.

I also suspect that DL will follow a similar method when it reopens. Existing ADRs are still there (I've got one still for 7/1, but I have doubts as to whether it'll happen), but they, too, could easily cancel all of them and tell people to rebook. The difference will be that DL people won't lose their minds over being told they can rebook 60 days beforehand. It'll be like "Oh, ok, so it's like usual then."

DL doesn't have the whole "schedule your FP ride 6 months ahead of time" thing, so DL won't have to cancel anybody's FP reservations.

I would be shocked if opening day wasn’t July 17th. Disneyland’s 65th anniversary.
This would make me happy (well, not happy as neither my June trip nor July backup trip would happen) but I feel like California is going to be significantly later than Florida.

So I have now booked some dates for October instead, which is the next time we will reasonably be able to go (we start back to school the end of July here).

Fingers crossed!

I have a GCH 5 night stay reserved but usually buy my tickets on site. I am nervous that because I don't have tickets, I wont be able to make a reservation if it's the same thing for DL as WDW. If I buy tickets now from a third party, is it even possible to link my ticket to Disneyland? How will they know who has tickets already?

You can link any valid DL ticket to your DL account.

Reservations will be made through your account where your linked, valid tickets are also located.

Example: I have comp tickets linked to my WDW account and just received an email from WDW to explain reservations while addressing my linked tickets.

The various systems link together to open up the ability to book a park entrance reservation.

ETA: Here’s the excerpt from the WDW email:

“However, because you have valid Theme Park admission, you will have access to the Theme Park reservation system before new tickets are sold to other Guests.”

I went and searched out your post and really enjoyed it.

A couple weeks ago, my parents booked a week at SSR once we decided to cancel our August DCL cruise. I'm a little jealous I have to wait until January to (hopefully) get to WDW. Fastpass+ is not well-loved in our family; it would be kind of fun to enjoy a trip more like the ones from my high school and college years...and more like every Disneyland day I am lucky enough to have.

Granted, being DVC and using Gold APs that were extended because of the shutdown makes a lot of this easier for them to swallow. (Similarly, I can't imagine them paying full price for a 1 day DLR park hopper ticket for what will surely be a limited experience upon reopening, but I will happily make a Flex Pass reservation and enjoy whatever there is to enjoy!)

WDW IT is on crack, as usual :-) I just got the same email regarding my November resort reservation. I haven't bought my tickets yet.

They must be sending it out to anyone with tickets or a resort reservation. Their wording is always messed up and confusing.

I received the same email for a DVC rental reservation in October and haven't bought my tickets yet either. Super stressed about possibly not being able to get park tickets.

I saw your thread you posted over there and thought it was nice and well thought out.

I have an AP and have purchased, but not added to my app, PHs for the rest of my family (purchased from UCT). We were going to go in June, and then July, but at this point I don't think we will make it back until October.

With the mask requirement and probable restricted offerings, only my younger son will still be interested in going with me, even in October (unless things are normal by then).

Do you think there is any advantage to adding those UCT tickets to my app now?

ETA: Here is a snag I had not considered. The UCT tickets I bought have my family members' names on them. The chance of my older son and stepson now attending at ANY time are slim to none, but my husband might go and my younger son would happily go more than once.

Will having the "wrong" names matter? My younger son is 13- he doesn't have ID or anything.

Names don’t matter because you can link them to anyone in your MDX account and reassign as many times as you like prior to usage.

If you don’t plan on asking UCT for a refund, link them to names in your account for safekeeping.

The comp tickets I’ve linked to my WDW account is just for record keeping. They’ll eventually be used at DL which has its own ticket system and doesn’t recognize WDW’s MDX system.

I am so sorry. I have no idea what MDX means!

And as far as asking UCT for a refund... I honestly didn't want to bother them... I mean, I guess I had hoped to use them sometime but then again it's about $1500 tied up in those tickets. Hmmm decisions decisions.

Sorry, MDX is the name of WDW’s My Disney Experience account as I’m used to just giving tips for WDW.

You can add your tickets to your DL account now so they are ready if DL uses park entrance reservations.

This is my guess too. :)
I've seen this date before and now I'm going to ask as I cannot imagine a worse day to reopen. Not just a question for Epicnemisis & amyg1975, but also for others who think this is going to be the date, what is your reasoning?

The re-opening day is going to be stressful for all employees. They have to be strict with the guests to make sure everyone follows protocol. Adding extra stress to celebrate the 65th anniversary, just doesn't make sense to me.
I can see Disneyland reopening before the 17th of July, to have some sort of rhythm in the new measures. So that on the 17th they can focus on some sort of small ceremony, and very low-key activities.
But I can also see them not opening till after the 17th and celebrate the anniversary at a later date in 2020 when the measures have eased (hopefully).

OK so to confirm (sorry), you think that even if I add those hoppers to my DL app, and the original people I had planned to take with me cannot go, then I could still use "their" tickets say, for my younger son multiple times? (assuming we get the option to go before they expire)?

Thank you!
