Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Ehhhh.... I don’t know. I wish the parks were open, but I wish it was safe to go. My son tells me every other day that he wants to go to “Disneyland or Legoland” and it guts me a little every time. He waited so long, earned his spending money, learned to wear his mask... and the answer is still no. He’s five, and he doesn’t really get it.

On the other hand, the situation in Florida makes me very uncomfortable. Hopefully this goes well and (a) all my handwringing is for naught; (b) WDW demonstrates that opening theme parks can be done safely even in the worst of the worst hot spots. I hope. Because the alternative is ... not good.
I think I'm jealous that WDW-goers get their "Home" back. But I do agree that it's best to open when numbers are better controlled. Maybe if things do go well there, it can help open us out here? Idk though.

That’s my hope. Like, if they open and this works and it’s safe and PEOPLE WEAR THEIR MASKS, maybe some of the other states that still have theme parks closed will see that it can be done? Our local theme parks are closed here, too, though they’re nothing on the magnitude of Disney. I was thinking cautiously optimistic thoughts about going over my son’s spring break, but even thinking the thought was slightly painful, so I squelched it. All of this stinks.

My four year old makes me cry with this stuff at least twice a week. Yesterday she asked me “Mommy, when covid-19 is over can we go stay at the legoland hotel?” It breaks my heart that she even knows what Covid-19 is. And she’s asked For reassurance multiple times that Mickey and the princesses and everyone at Disneyland are safe from covid, and that they can’t catch it because they are magical. Then she adds “right, mommy?”

So many instances of “when covid-19 is over can we....” in regards to Disneyland. It makes me ache for last year. If we’d only known.

I get it. It sucks so bad. He talked about having a lemonade stand since last November. Something as simple and childhood-standard as a lemonade stand, and he can’t even do that. On the other hand, he changed what he wants to be when he grows up from some sort of unspecified “trooper” to a scientist. He wants to help find a “coronavirus potion” (vaccine). So, you know. I love him.

Sadly, yes. And even more sad -- the parents were pleased as punch about their decision. They were having fun. The poor little girl was crying and looked miserable.
In the late 80s, my dance studio danced in Disneyland. My mom and I went with another mom and friend. Friend had chicken pox, a light case, but still.... a few weeks later, so did I . But I think that was the plan. Oh how times have changed!

Lol I’m just gonna say it ( and yes I know how this sounds) but I am incredibly jealous! Especially since DL reminded us today that they don’t have a date in mind, so I have no clue when the next time will be. I’m watching the live streams and living vicariously through them. Lots of tears today.

Same! I think not having a date is what’s making me crazy. It was a little gut wrenching to have one and get it taken away. 😭

I get all the logic behind this all, don’t get me wrong. I’m a cancer survivor so I have to be extra careful with COVID but it doesn’t stop my heart from hoping. ❤️ I honestly feel like going to Disney is safer than my local store at this point with everyone ripping their masks off and swarming the sold out goods.

(Anyone else noticed how impossible it is to get summer things right now? Bought a kayak and took me a over week to find a good one and had to pay double what it’d normally sell for!)

Yes! Bikes have been sold out for months at my local target. The worker said they became low stock when the quarantine began b/c going on family bike rides were one of the few safe things to do. Now everyone is doing outdoor summer activities and avoiding traveling for summer.

Anyone else feeling a little jealous as we watch all this WDW opening info come out? 🤪
Not in the least it is just not SAFE to go right now. It’s dangerous enough going to work with people who SHOULD care for the health and well-being of each other but still come to work sick and refusing to wear masks. Can only imagine what people are like when they are around complete strangers.

Yes! I watched a streaming video today at WDW and it looked like everyone was complying with all the new rules. I was so happy for everyone in the video and was also really happy to see all the safety measures in place.

The only thing keeping me going through this is to be optimistic that people will do the right thing when visiting businesses like WDW and DL-and if people do not follow the rules, Disney does something about it. I cannot waste any energy being a negative nelly.

Who is doing this and where? I was out and about A LOT today in San Diego and every single person everywhere was wearing a mask. Everyone. Young people, old people, Middle Aged people, children.

You don’t wear a mask to work, you get fired. Should be that simple.

I was actually just at Lowe's (Sacramento) and I saw four customers not wearing masks, two others wearing them improperly (under the nose). Compliance seems to vary in my city.

So interesting! I do see people without them here mostly in Solana Beach near the beach. It irritates me when we take the stairs to the beach and there’s always some dumb dumb not wearing their mask even though there’s signs everywhere saying they are mandatory on the narrow stairs.

I really really hope Disney security is super strict about the masks. We will not go if they don’t enforce them at DtD.

We MIGHT go next week, IF World of Disney is open and if feedback is they are enforcing masks. I’m hoping for lower crowds on a Tuesday or a Wednesday. I want to take my girls and let them pick out whatever they want at WOD and I really want one of those Thanksgiving sandwiches from Earl of Sandwich to go. Mostly I just want to be in Anaheim again and see the magic. I’m getting tears in my eyes just thinking about it. Already planning the girls Disney outfits in case we go.

World of Disney will definitely be open. I'm a retail CM at DCA and may possibly have to work at WOD in the near future.

Excited for you! Hope everything goes well especially all the safety measures.

Please report back if you go to the CM preview. Will WOD have the “waitlist” virtual queue?

I think mask compliance really varies by region. We live in urban San Diego and it is very, very rare to see people without masks. I even see runners wearing masks and it’s been freakin’ hot out! We went up to Big Bear last week. We stopped at Petco in Temecula to buy some poop bags for our dogs and there were several employees and customers wearing masks around their necks but not on their faces. We also passed a political corner rally with about 40 people holding candidate signs and encouraging people to honk their horns as they passed. Not one single mask in the group. Up in Big Bear, it was mixed. As we drove through town, we noticed quite a few people were walking around without masks on, even in crowds. On the other hand, we did a 6 hour wilderness hike and the handful of times we passed other people, everyone in our family and the party we were going to pass stopped, put on a mask, and proceeded forward passing each with faces covered. It was like unspoken trail etiquette.

I think Disneyland is going to have to be very, very strict about mask wearing. If they let a handful of people get away with not wearing masks, that handful of people will turn into a crowd. It’s much easier to enforce a rule when only a few people are breaking it. We are so anxious to go to Disneyland and might even make a trip up just to go to DTD and maybe stay in a hotel for a change in scenery. But I will not even bother unless they are strictly enforcing mask wearing.

This is where I’m at too. Trying really hard to be positive! Been in a slump for awhile (working from home isn’t much fun anymore... I miss seeing people!) and decided I need to try my best to stop focusing on negative space. Even if it just means taking a break from the news for a day or two.

Mask compliance also seems to vary here too. Ill be curious if anything is said to people wearing them with their noses hanging out. I suppose it’s better than nothing.. I imagine more droplets fly out of your mouth then your nose...?

Re: "Is the only way to guarantee park entry to stay onsite; is it even guaranteed if you are staying onsite?"

Nobody knows for sure yet, but you can’t make reservations unless you have already purchased a ticket, even if you are staying onsite. Tickets sales are suspended until further notice.
