Breaking news-Travelers flying from New York to Florida will be placed under 14-day quarantine,

I agree with you folks on Texas, Arizona, and California (and maybe some other states) needing to be added to Florida's list, but I can give you a perfect personal (not something I saw on some Twit's post) example of why the NE states are still on the list.

Yesterday and today, my DD had plans. Her boyfriend was to pick her up yesterday morning, they were going to pick up their HS yearbooks and have lunch. Then today, he was coming over and they were to spend the day chilling by the pool. Both days were with masks and social distancing.

He called yesterday morning and said he could not come either day -- his sister had tested positive. They've been as strict as we have so we wondered how that happened.

Turns out, his aunt came down from NYC on Thursday, en route to South America. She had covid in NYC, but was "over it"...she told them (later!). She stayed two nights, leaving Saturday.

Sunday, the sister was feeling bad (cough, sore throat), got tested, and the test came back positive yesterday. His whole family (him, Mom, and another aunt who lives with them) got tested yesterday and should have their results Friday.

Just because your new cases are low right now does NOT mean you don't have a lot of people walking around who are still contagious...no matter what you find said on some Facebook or Twit post. The truth is scientists don't know how long a person is contagious, whether antibodies provide any immunity at all, etc. There is an enormous amount of knowledge missing on this disease because it is still very new.

Again, I'm sorry if it messes you up, but the situation is what it is.

One question for the DVC folks. Can you deposit your points into RCI? RCI has some really great resorts in some wonderful locations, and is very easy to use.

I can deposit into RCI, but I paid for these points to go to Disney... there’s no where else we want to go ☹️

Depositing is much better than losing them -- and some RCI resorts are nicer and better located than DVC's limited locations. We had DVC for years, then Wyndham (RCI) for years.

I agree. There are some fantastic New England resorts that are at the beach and in the mountains. There are also some amazing ones internationally. I know it’s not an ideal use of points but you would have an extended amount of time to use the RCI points; I forget how much longer but at least another year, maybe two.

That's very sad to hear and I wish them a quick and healthy recovery but it still doesn't explain why 3 states in the NE are singled out. That can happen to anyone in any state not just people coming from NY. The situation is what it is. The EO does not make any sense what so ever, plain and simple.

With all due respect, and I'm sorry that your daughter's boyfriend's family has Covid, under that logic, Florida residents (amongst all other states currently on the tri-state list) should indefinitely not be granted entry to NY/NJ/CT...or should there not be any travel from state to state until there's a cure? Sorry, you can't generalize the entire state based on that past data or we can never move forward in this new "normal".

Maybe... but it’s just not the same. 😢 I know you’re trying to be positive for me, but I just want to be in Disney, on Disney property.

I’m going to see what our options are. Thank you for your positivity.

If I accept the logic of your argument, then, Florida needs to have a mandatory 2 week quarantine for anyone entering from ALL other states, period.

Clearly, it doesn't. So this cannot be the reason for singling out the NE states.

Until someone comes up with a more cogent argument for this policy, the only remaining factor I can fathom is political. Which from my elderly eyes smacks of throwing Florida's economy under the bus to make a point... NE has a ton of money which could have been spent there.

Jim, I don't get your point. So, again, by your logic, NY, NJ, and CT would have to eradicate this virus in order to travel to your fair state!?!
Your anecdote proves nothing. Were the others in the household never leaving the house? That is to say, you're taking a big leap by blaming the aunt. Seems to me, based on science, that the aunt had nothing to do with the infection. She was there two days and on day three someone began to show symptoms; doesn't add up. Taking incubation period into account, the likelihood that she "brought" Covid from NYC is very low....like 1% as opposed to 15% (Florida's current rate). Also, by your logic NO ONE should be coming to Florida right now, because the virus exists.
You keep doing your best to defend the decision to "shut out the bad Yankees" though. 👍

This can't be what you mean but the way I read this is you are saying the only reason the sister tested positive is the aunt came down from NYC... that is... if all other varaibles remained and she just lived in a different part of the country his sister would not have been infected. If you take out 'came down from NYC' the result would still have been the same.

Coming from NYC had no bearing on the spread. If you take out 'came down from NYC' the result would still have been the same. You could argue that there was a higher chance of someone travelling from the tri-state region being infected but that is not what you said. Right now, going anywhere is suspect.

Then I suggest the Florida borders be shut completely. Don't let anyone in for any reason. Really, the virus can be brought in by anyone from anywhere. Just be cause you have an example from NYC doesn't mean cases aren't coming from other places. And you aren't restricting them!

The woman I spoke with, who was very nice I must say, explained that when Louisiana was lifted from the quarantine, the July 7th expiration date for NY/NJ/CT was also lifted. Now, the official expiration date for the quarantine is September 5th, unless it is lifted at some point
I'm confused.... they lifted the ban on July 7th and then reinstated it?

Yes, we still have it up here and it's still spreading, although slower. No place is safe and people do let their guard down.

I feel there is a much greater likelihood of getting it in a growing hot zone though and I wouldn't travel to FL now personally. I will say that some of the people we know up here who got it were not able to determine where they got it from.
So as many have asked, why just those 3 states and not all the current hot spots too? Is there any logical reason you can offer?
My thought on this is that the covid cat is out of the bag and Florida doesn't want to backtrack on opening, especially because of the tourist economy. But the ban from the tri-state area is in effect and will have an impact, how big we don't know, on travelers into the state. Since it's been in place, it's easier to keep in place rather than implement a new ban on people coming into the state. JMO. They will have to change it though, since other areas are becoming a greater danger to spread.

So, all of the above being said, what can we do to express our dissatisfaction about being singled out? I know the best way is by hitting them in the pocketbook, but anything else? I know DeSantis is ignoring emails regarding this, but what about Disney? Maybe if enough of us complain to Disney about our DVC and APs not being usable due to outdated and illogical data, there will be some exception given to us, like an extension of time to use, or maybe they will communicate with the Governor (a girl can dream :rolleyes2)...

No - they lifted the July 7th EXPIRATION DATE. So technically, it had an unlimited expiration date until yesterday. It’s now set to expire Sept. 5.

Thank you for sharing your experience. First off I hope your DD's boyfriends family end up okay after testing positive. Unless the aunt was tested as well and tested positive I dont think its totally fair to assume that just because she came from NY they started showing signs. It's a possibility but its also just as likely that regardless of how safe we all try to be that you can still get this virus anyway.

I definitely haven't been thinking about that aspect of does being "over" Covid-19 mean you cant give it to others. And there is a ton we don't know.

I think for myself and for many Disney lovers that are affected by this in New York get even more frustrated when we live nowhere close to NYC and in small communities where our case numbers are around a 100 total through all of this time (And I still wear a mask and gloves anytime I am out of my house, I even mask up while golfing, lol). I really do wish when the mandate was passed for the Tri-State area it meant what the Tri-State area means to people from this area which is essentially residents of Metropolitan NY and the nearby communities that travel to and from on a regular basis. But that's opening up another can of worms in itself but I think it would make more sense now to do that instead of the entirety of the 3 states. What would make me feel better is if they added other hotspot areas to the quarantine list in FL so it doesn't feel like we are being singled out when there are other states that are having major surges in cases. But thats not up to me.

I am even guilty of looking at the numbers between the two states now and being really annoyed that this was extended, but thanks for sharing your experience because it does remind us that there is a lot we don't know. I still am annoyed but that's more in frustration with the whole situation that we are all dealing with (I think thats the case for a lot of us). But we each have to do our part.

I am really hoping we don't have to reschedule our trip again on September 16th. But if we have to we will, I told my wife last night I'll reschedule 100 times if I have to, lol.

Thanks reading, sorry for the long ramble.

I think complaining to the Governor of Florida is unrealistic, just as me complaining to the Governor of NY would be. The governors are going to do what they feel is in the best interests of their states, no matter what anybody thinks about it.

I do think many have legitimate complaints with both Disney and DVC.

Disney has your AP money in their bank account and it costs them absolutely nothing to extend the expiration date -- unless you decide to buy another one. They should extend your AP. (I'm not saying they will, just that they should.)

DVC is a similar situation. I know their legal arguments about natural disasters and points expiration policies...and extending your points would cost them some money. Blah, blah, blah -- I get it.

But they would be better off long-term to treat their customers right and keep them happy. I think they are taking a manageable opportunity to do good things and handling it badly. Glad I'm no longer an owner.

For those of us looking for logic, we are just frustrating ourselves. There has to be more behind the scenes going on that we are not privy to.
Desantis is essentially allowing in travelers who are MOST likely to be contagious and imposing quarantine on those who are LEAST lilkely to be contagious. The fact that he has not given his reasons for continuing to single out these states (and no reasons for allowing influx from current hot spots) means there is something he doesn't want to be forthcoming about.
I really thought when he saw that the Tri-State Governors set their quarantine restrictions on travelers from other states and gave clear and measurable parameters for which states were under restriction, that DeSantis would be embarrassed into doing the same, come July 7th. I was wrong.
