Cases rising or dropping by you?

For the last few weeks we’ve been “growing” as far a positive tests but still “flat/decreasing” in deaths. It’s been quite alarming going from 100-150 positive tests a day to 500-600 but today when I checked we had “flattening” on positives and still “flat/decreasing” for deaths. Who knows what the 4th shenanigans will bring but *knock on wood* hopefully we’ll be able to stay the course.
deaths lag the testing by 2-4 weeks I believe. So around the end of the month, I would not be surprised at all to see an dramatic increase in deaths.

We’re nearing three weeks since things started ramping up. I am truly heartbroken every time I see new ones. I know things can turn for the worse so I’m trying to be realistic but hopeful. I was quite surprised to see “flattening” under the positive column. That’s my county though, some of the smaller ones are getting hit hard. Lots of teeny, tiny towns with no hospitals so that could make things dicey as well.

Ohio spiked a little last week, hitting a high of 1300 new cases a day. It's since fallen gradually since then down to somewhere around 850 or so per day the past few days. Of course, a mid-June, we were down to 300-400 per day.

Sure, it started ramping up three weeks ago, but the "explosion" just happened two weeks ago (referring to Florida only), and has been getting worse since.

I’m not in Florida. They’re exploding and we’re showing “flattening.” That doesn’t mean it won’t change tomorrow or next week. All I can do is keep an eye on it and hope for the best while preparing myself for the worst.

Did I read right, is WDW open or opening soon? Here in NY we got it much better under control, we are way down, but at least the part of the state I live in, the southern worst hit area, they really took it serious. Most people did what it took, wore masks, they shut down businesses, etc., etc. My poor husband still wears a mask all day long when he's around anyone. I saw a lot of people from other states, even on here where it is bad now, blowing this whole thing off as if it were really nothing much or blown out of proportion.

Second passholder preview day is today and they open on Saturday.

Florida added more than 11,400 new cases today. Orange County has almost 16,000 cases, 550 new today. Here's the graph for Orange County. For reference, June 5 is when Universal opened.

My state (Illinois) is for the most part holding steady. There were 3 new cases locally (10 miles away in a neighboring town).

The recovery rate in Illinois is 94% (can we not link to our sources here?)

Our population is roughly 12.8 million; 1.878 million tests have been performed. There have been 150,450 positive cases. And 7,119 deaths.

My daughter is considered high risk (post liver-transplant 15 years ago) and had H1N1 in 2010; so we're studying the numbers CLOSELY but we're actually optimistic about it all. She's come back from deaths door more than once.

I’m not defending FL because there is absolutely nothing to defend there, but many places are taking the same precautions NY is.

What do you think accounts for the valleys (the actually number of cases decreasing)?

We opened into phase 2 on 6/5 and then you see cases start to rise.

You see the initial spike, the governor closed down everything and cases went down. Then it rose when we reopened.

We're in phase 4 right now. IL locked down in March and did a slllooooowwww reopen. We went to phase 2 on May 3, phase 3 on June 3, and phase 4 June 27. From March 18 - May 3 = total lockdown with essential workers (police, fire, bankers, etc) only to be out of the home working.

Yes but many are not. I have a friend in Florida and she says that most do not wear masks in the grocery store, etc. where she lives. That is not the case here. I have family in Texas who say the same thing, most do not wear masks in the grocery store, etc. etc. Maybe some areas are different but they are talking about where they live in their states. I saw many in states that are now having issues saying this was over hyped.

I wish we could get to a place where we could talk about the country as a whole and not always have it go back to FL, TX & AZ. The majority here feel they've messed it up. Some of those states are doing something about it (hopefully not too late) and some are willing to just let their state burn, I suppose. But there are 47 other states and many of them are doing the correct thing. Not all. But certainly not only NY/NJ/CT.

We've got another 10k new cases in Florida. We're up to 244k, almost 1/4 million cases.

On another note, I needed to go to Kissimmee yesterday and on the highway, I noticed lots of cars from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and both Carolinas exiting at Disney. How are we going to contain this if people insist on coming to Florida? If you travel by personal car, I'm guessing you're not going to be quarantined when you return home.

My state is still fairly flat, although I feel like I am constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. I am wondering how these state-to-state quarantines will be enforced though. Is it the honor system?

That’s an interesting question. Does anybody from NY/NJ know?

It’s really sad that states who have been through the absolute worst are still willing to take the risk.
