DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Happy Day 1 of vacation from parts unknown. So far, it has been a magical day with just some minor speed bumps. I counted about 90 people off the plane, and we had that many board. The pilot was absolutely hilarious, and gave us a lengthy, technical explanation of how the air was filtered aboard the plane. At the end, he said that that despite the biased media, there was new purified air from outside the plane filtered inside the airplane every 3 minutes, which was better than any other business or personal residence. Then he said, "why wear a mask then on a plane? I don't know but just please do it".

We arrived around 6:30 PM. Most of the restaurants are closed, but we were able to walk up to trattoria al forno and seated within a few minutes without an ADR. There's always the Boardwalk Bakery or pizza window. Screen Door doesn't have much there though, not even a 6 pack of beer. We tried to play tennis tonight as the sign said 7 AM to 10 PM, but the lights kicked off on their own at 9:20 PM. With all the downtime, maybe they could get that timer fixed. It looks like the pools are packed in the PM after the parks closed, which isn't surprising. I'm just surprised Disney didn't expect that when they closed the parks at 7 PM and didn't allow hoppers.

Oldest dd broke her phone charger off inside the phone and is now freaking out. Anyone know where to find an iPhone charger at WDW?

We are in a 1 BR at the BWV on the 4th floor. The studios were great when the dds were younger, but the extra space & washer/ dryer are terrific right now. It's an older resort and showing some age, but it's a great start to a vacation.

Rewind all the way to the AM. Had a good interview, and I think I made it to the 2nd round of interviews. I just hope it's not next week. At the Church job, my pastor wants me to not come to work for the 14 days because it's recommended by the governor. I have lots of sick days, which is fine.

Morning from a sunny (for now) Orlando. Only getting up to 90 today before the rain is forecasted to come cool things down.

Last day of work before vacation next week. Heading to vero beach which is about 90 min away. Went there years ago with the kids and looking forward to sans kids this time. Sad we're going to be missing the other dads, but not like I would have been able to meet them in the park anyway...would have had to be at DTD or a resort.

I'm at the Boardwalk outside of park hours, but I'm not sure how many people are being let in.

Hey guys,

Working on summer vacation plan B. We are starting to look at colleges for my son, and one of the possibilities is the U. of Tennessee. So we're thinking of taking a road trip to wander the campus there and get a feel for it, and then get a cabin near the Smoky Mountains for the week. Feels like hanging out in a cabin with some nice scenery around is a more appropriate way to vacation in a pandemic. Hopefully we'll pull it off. Being an over-planner, doing stuff at the last minute like this makes me freak out a bit.

We did a nice 2 bedroom in Gatlinburg, and it was terrific. Beautiful view.

This being 2020, it was probably Godzilla!

:lmao:

Have a great weekend guys! Hoping Norm's travels today were uneventful. Oh, and that deliverance talk, no thanks. Mark - if Tennessee, may also want to look at UT Chattanooga. Both of mine picked that over UTK due to programs offered and when you could start their major, the fact that the dorms are apartments nicer than my first 3 or 4 apartments and DD just "refused to wear that ugly a$$ orange". Stay safe all!

All good. See you in a few days.

Back from camping with the fam. And back at work too. Did I miss anything?

All our usual nuggets.

Um.... Maybe they think it adds to the ambiance.

Ask at the front desk. Chances are they have some that guests have left behind. Otherwise they'll steer you in the right direction.

Sounds good!

Morning, all! I finished my last day at my old job yesterday, which now makes me unemployed for two days. I am looking forward to starting my new job on Monday. Bill, the lead in the stockroom, had scheduled yesterday off before I put my notice in, so he wasn't in, otherwise I would have taken a half-day. I thought that being my last day, I'd take it easy and skate through the day. Boy, was I wrong. Everyone decided to take yesterday as the day to come to the stockroom for parts they've been holding off on. And of course, there was that one customer order that had to go out that day, and I couldn't find some of the parts. Figures, right? It was a day of being on my feet all day. I finally had enough about 3:45 pm and said, "That's it! I'm done! I'm going to sit down and goof the rest of the day." Turns out I couldn't even do that because I had to go and talk with HR about the off boarding process. Oh well. I'm done and waiting for my next adventure. As a congratulations for getting a new job, the family decided, actually it was my 7 y/o DD who decided, that we needed to go out to breakfast today at our regular breakfast spot. So we're going to meet with a friend and go get some good food.

Hay y'all...
Quite morning down this way. The heat broke a mite, which is good as our A/C is still on the picket line. Can't seem to get either the warranty folks of their chosen contractor to call me back either so its back to fans and open windows for the time being.

Glad the heat finally broke, but sorry your A/C is still on the picket line. Sounds like you need to get a strike buster in there and get that thing back to work.

You go on and dance.

Just close the door so no one can see ya' and to lower the DBs in the rest of the clubhouse when that knee does go out.

You know, the more beer I drink the better I dance...so it might be fun to watch. You know, on second thought, I'm going to lock the door. 🤣

Break?
What is this break thing of which you speak?

Something I won't be getting at my new job. 😄

Actually, 10 of the clock is when I normally eat my first breakfast (there ain't no second) For me it works to make the inerds chew on themselves for a while longer before I offer up any extra sustenance. Also makes it easier to stay in the ten-hour window I use for intake while fasting the remainder of each 24. Lost 50 pounds doing it and so far, I've been able to keep that extra third of a person off me for better than 18 months. There is the small matter of getting use to the notion that I can never stop doing it though, or all that mess will just build right back.

I may not do the cruise next year. It's expensive to have to get 2 rooms for my family.

Not to mention all that wonderful food. I mean, why would you do that to yourself?

Hey, congratulations! Great news!

Thanks!

Sportswriter Bill Simmons came up with the phrase "Tyson Zone", where a person or entity gets to a point, like Mike Tyson, where you would believe any story anyone made up about them.

I believe the U.S. has officially entered the Tyson Zone.

Next will be the alien invasion.

Congrats! (I miss the old conga rats giph I had on photobucket at times like this)

Thanks!

DS got a job and ship date so we are just praying it doesn't get cancelled as has happened to too many recruits.

What job did he finally wind up getting, and when is he shipping out?

DW and I made it back from our vacation in Alma, NB. Declan and his GF stayed with us Sunday night and my in-laws last night. We had a very relaxing time with some nice hikes thrown in. Fundy National Park has some great trails if you are ever up his way. Nice little AirBnB as well with a fantastic view of the Bay. We wouldn't hesitate to go back again. Now we have just about 4 more weeks before another few days away, this time headed to PEI.

Glad you guys had a good time. I need to get out with the family and do some hikes in the forest.

Read through the last few pages, pretty riveting stuff but that was to be expected.

Always a good read when going through these pages.

Congrats!!!!!

Thanks

Nothing major.
Well, Godzilla decided not to attack.
Other than that...

Just add it to the list of things 2020 is throwing at us.

Depending on which iteration of Godzilla you're referring to, that could be good or bad.

For me it has to be the original. Saturday's sitting on the couch watching Godzilla movies. The best way to spend a Saturday, unless I was at the pool with friends.

Somebody got a new job... :rolleyes1

I wonder who that could be?

I am looking forward to starting my new job on Monday.
Congrats! So... which one was it? The legal one or the post office one or something else?
It was a day of being on my feet all day.
But the last day of doing that. Makes alllll the difference.

Morning from a sunny Westfield NB. We are heading out for the day for a scenic drive, Happy Saturday. Enjoy the weekend.

Yeah, please...I'm low on my mental bleach supply.

Same here. High of 34C/93F today. Which for us is an official Heat Warning!!!! from the govt. In the southern States, that's known as "pleasantly warm".
Definitely. I told @Zmack it was 97 one day and I was driving without the AC on. Riding the bike most/much of the time, the heat doesn't bother me.

We are back form our day trip along the coast. Spent some time on the beach then had some seafood for lunch a few pics of the coastline.

Hello all from the line in jungle cruise. Meltdown averted for oldest dd's charger, and apparently temper tantrums know no end.

Been a good day with small crowd levels. Longest wait has been around 40 minutes. However, there is huge inconsistency between cleaning rides. Peter Pan had no clean, and they were spraying an aerosol (throughly) on the boats at Jungle Cruise.

I don't like the Disney sanitizer, so I've been making more trips to wash my hands in the bathroom. And, I don't like the mask. But, if that is what it takes to be here at Disney, then so be it. I can't imagine wearing a mask again on another trip though. If this is the new normal, then it won't include me. Hopefully, when this 1 or 2 year pandemic is over, so real we will have a better understanding of what to do for the next one.

97... if I'm riding at 97, I know exactly what I'm thinking. "Don't stop! Don't stop! Keep moving! I need air blowing on me to survive!"

Those are gorgeous views!

Yikes!

That's... really weird. You touch more on PP than on JC.

That's... really weird. You touch more on PP than on JC.

I understood the handrails to step down into the boat, but they sprayed the center with no seating signs and newly installed plexiglass. I guess it's for the uproaring laughter on JC? Or, maybe just a show for the people. But, I can't imagine anyone who is scared would travel to a theme park right now.

Also, most everything is geared for a family of four, so a family of 6 is being seated 4 and 2 on rides and shows. POTC seated two groups of two in front row and back row only. We had the whole car of Splash Mountain to ourselves, one in each seat.

Morning All,

Just sitting here drinking my coffee and listening to the rain. Paid a visit to our local short track last night, haven't done that for years. Pretty clean night of racing, mostly because there wasn't a lot of racing going on. There were some battle but a lot of the longer races ended up being follow the leader. Still an enjoyable, low cost evening.

Get to play my first soccer game of the season this evening, hopefully the rain will be done by then. Enjoy your Sunday All!

Hello gents
Nothing special to report the last couple days. DW has been working so I’ve just been doing a little work around the house (emphasis on little).

So you are headed to O’Reilly’s Pub on George Street?
I thought we were all going to the Green Sleeves Pub and Eatery.
Wrong on both counts, although I would pick O’Reilly’s over Green Sleeves.
Went to Yellow Belly Brewery. They brew on site. Although I’m not much of a beer drinker I did have their taster flight. Nothing really stood out, but like I said I’m really not a beer drinker.
I did have their fish and chips, but with crushed salt and vinegar chips (a.k.a. crisps, Dan) breading. That was really interesting and I enjoyed it. Zero photos of any of this.

That afternoon we saw the capelin roll at Middle Cove beach. Capelin are small fish similar to sardines that come to spawn and then beach themselves after. Circle of life and all. We just watched but some people catch them to eat or even fertilize their garden (the fish are going to beach and die anyway).
I tried a couple pictures, not sure if you can really see them in the water.
