Reminder - Fireside Chat on SW CP available on DISchurners:

These new offers are nice on the surface, BUT is now the best time to grab a SW card? Not if you're hoping to maximize the use of a CP. If you're thinking about these offers, or the SW CP, or just generally curious, you might want to revisit the comments at the link above before pulling the trigger.

Nonetheless, it's nice to see an increased offer! :D

Yeah, I’m kind of bummed that I earned my CP back in March. Haven’t used it yet—hopefully next year. On the bright side, maybe it’s a good thing I earned it this year, because it seems Chase is tightening up on credit, particularly for business cards, which was an integral part of me earning my CP. Oh, and another plus? Even if I NEVER use my CP, I’ve earned a bunch of points, which are now non-expiring. So, yay. Trying to be optimistic here. Not easy for this natural pessimist.

Speaking of SW CP. New SUBs are out for all personal cards. 65,000 for $2,000 spend in 3 months.
I had decided to go the Freedom route for DH. This changes everything. Decisions decisions 🤔
Frankly as much as I would love to have the companion pass I’m not sure how much use we’ll get out of it in 2021.

Hi Everyone!

I'm looking for a little help in finding the next CC for me. I have some big expenses coming up, and would like to take advantage to meet spending requirements on any bonuses. I'm hoping for more travel cards to help me stockpile points for future travel. We don't have any imminent need, we have a couple of trips planned, but have enough points, should we actually move forward with those trips.

Cards in the last 24 months
02/19 Amex Delta Gold.
05/19 Chase Preferred
06/19 Chase Freedom Unlimited

A couple of older cards I still have
06/04 Capital One Quicksilver
07/15 Citi double cash back

A little about me.
I spend anywhere from 1k - 3k per month. I do have some big expenses coming up though.
I always pay off my CC in full every month (sometimes, I make multiple payments in a month)
I fly out of MSP (Minneapolis, St. Paul- MN)
I prefer Delta, since it’s the biggest player in MN.
Southwest does serve MSP, but it’s pretty limited, so not preferred.
Currently I have both Marriott and Hilton rewards programs - but those are mostly due to work travel. Not doing much work travel now, so I’m not tied to either of them.

I have points in
Chase Ultimate rewards 87,969pts
Delta Skymiles 79,192
Marriott Bonvoy 34,913
Hilton Honors 40,485

Goals - I have a general list. Most of these don’t have a timeline, except for WDW. We have 2 trips planned, but I’m not sure if we’ll do both. One in October and one in Feb. Both, we’re holding out to see how things go in FL.
Walt Disney World
Disneyland
Hawaii
Europe
Travel will most likely just be me and my BF. We have no kids. Some extended family may travel, with us, but nothing planned yet.

Thank you for any help!
Rebecca

I bought a bottle of sanitizer the day I went to Aldi too, and I was so glad I had it when I was given someone else's cart at checkout. I contacted Aldi about the cart transfer issue and they supposedly forwarded my concern to the appropriate people. Someone also left me a voicemail and email asking me to contact them to discuss it further. I'm not sure what there is to discuss. I was just alerting them to the situation. They shouldn't publicly announce that safety protocols are in place when they're not being followed.
funny....bc of this thread, when I stopped at Aldi today to pick up one(ok,15) things I noticed they used the same cart now,so just moved it forward for same person....hmmm.

Maybe they sent out an alert when @punkin contacted them.

People have to speak up for things to be corrected.

We assume that the people who make policies will have the policies followed but - it doesn't always happen as planned. And if nobody says anything, lets face it, people will be lazy and shrug their shoulders until someone expresses concern.

Where I am everyone but Kroger seems to be on top of providing clean carts. Even Food Lion. Kroger leaves a variety of products out if you want to clean the cart yourself but no one standing by the carts and cleaning them. I have too many other options to deal with a store that I don't think is prioritizing cleaning. Unless I need a gift card!

I earned the CP earlier this year also and haven't used it yet. I'm hoping my Jan trip happens so I can use it then. I like your optimism. It is nice seeing a large balance of points. :)

When I go to Florida I almost always go to Publix and pick up items for my fridge, such as yoghurt, fruit, drinks, cheeses and salad and veggie options and on a week to 10 night trip, I'll go sometimes twice. I can do a lot with a microwave, coffee maker and toaster!

In consideration of my November trip, my plan would have been to eat 'in' as much as possible or get carry out or delivery, same as at home. Not ready for restaurants, my personal feeling due to risk factors - young and healthy people, have at it.

So, now I'm not comfortable with visiting their store - unless August, September and October start sounding a lot better. It's starting to look like cancellation for me. I hate to give in and let this beat me and take away the things I like to do.

Oh my, Southwest has made a mess. I don't know if I should try to untangle this now or wait and see if they correct it. I didn't even get notification of this change. I was in our joint email and saw that DH had 3 emails about change (our coming home was altered as well) so I started looking into it.

Original booking:
One Way Aus -> Hou -> Mco

This is what they now have for me, makes absolutely zero sense:

ETA: upon further inspection DH's CP has been sort of separated, it's not showing in his acct, but the conf # works and if I pull that up it does show associated reservation. The first part of that flight looks okay, but is missing the AUS->HOU part. She's the only one that has received email notification of a change. The second part, returning, is showing on her confirmation as well.

I hear you. And I sure hope things get better. My parents are in MI for another month then they'll head back to SW FL. I am hoping maybe they stay a month longer this year.

If it happened to me, I would call or get everything changed online ASAP to make sure my preferred flights didn’t fill up.

I had a similar finding last night. I was on the app and saw my change with 2 stops and a change of planes. I didn't get the email on it until this morning. I was able to change last night. Had to travel on a different day.
I'm sure there is more to come. They are really stripping down the schedule, I fear.

This flight continues being altered. I accepted one change, I swapped the second change. I'm seeing fewer and fewer flights to/from Austin. I may have to start looking into driving to San Antonio nevermind those flights would also go through HOU. It's tough, they need travelers, but it's hard to travel when the flights continually change and alter plans. The last flight the night before is 5:40 and DH won't be willing to take time off for that. Actually, he might, but I'd rather he save hours.

So if P2 had:
A Barclays Aviator Personal opened 2/19
A Citi Biz opened 4/19

Any reason to be concerned about applying for a Barclays Biz Aviator?

I don't think this would have even fell into the shutdown territory right?

:welcome:

I'm leaning toward Hyatt (personally) for my next card, but with your Marriott and Hilton points maybe try to increase your status at one of those. Swan & Dolphin are Marriott and Marriott has the largest footprint of hotels, but their rewards program seems less well liked than the other two.

Even though I've been following here a year, I still have a lot to learn, so let's see what others recommend.

All 2020 trips for us are now cancelled.

Dd is working until the end of the summer (camp counsellor for the City of Toronto) and I don't feel comfortable traveling just yet, so Banff / Lake Louise has been cut. I am relieved to have made this decision.

No way are ds and I going to Egypt in October (with ABD; they have not yet cancelled the trip) -- I moved the deposit to NZ in March, 2022 (when hopefully it will be safe to travel again). Between these two trips I have approx. $625.00 coming back to me in taxes (all flights were booked with Aeroplan miles). Dh now has 547,000 miles in his account and I have just over 90,000 (I will be churning one of my Aeroplan ccs in a few months to add another 20,000).

Just wanted to post I used my small business credit on my and DH’s cards at my friend’s frame shop on Saturday and the cashback is already showing up in our accounts. We also each got confirmation emails from the transaction when each card was swiped.

I've also got a wacky SW scheduling change story...my DTW-MDW-HOU flight got changed from leaving DTW around noon on Labor Day Monday to leaving DTW on 9/6 in the evening, arriving in MDW 20 min. later, staying overnight, then departing MDW on 9/7 @ 9 am to HOU with a one-hour layover in MSY. I'm super glad we probably aren't taking this trip so I don't have to mess with changing flights to make it a bearable trip.
