Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Can I say that 120 is a weird number. 100 or 150 makes more sense (in my head). Is there a big city or area right between 120 an 150 miles they would like to exclude?
120 miles made sense to me, at least in road miles. That makes it an approximately 2-hour drive radius.

Not sure. Downtown LA, which is the state’s epicenter of the virus is only 25 miles away from DL...

The 120 mile thing has to be a rumor. The state has no travel restrictions or quarantine rules (like NY) for people going out of state. Nothing is to stop people from going to WDW so why would DL have travel restrictions?

Of course few of the guidelines make sense so I wouldn’t put it past them!

a few of the Sunday night posts on this thread gave me the here-we-go-again with the weekly rona-coaster activity . but it wasn't happening so far this week . until 7pm-ish last night . and wow here-we-go-again but up another level this time with interpretations of some unconfirmed point of view . relax until Disneyland posts a update . it is malarkey

This last rumor definitely has put me in the camp of wait and see. I was upset by unconfirmed news and at this point it was for no reason. Thanks for this reminder. I needed it!

While 120 mile radius may not be great for tourists most theme parks including Disney and Universal draw a majority of their business from within that 2 hour drive.

Remember these are guidelines for all Theme Parks not just Disneyland.

Ah gotcha! Socal ticket doesn't use radius it uses zip codes. But yes, still sort of.
Which will also be a headache for theme parks. It’s one thing to check a zipcode. Having to search your exact address to calculate miles would be a pain. And the cities where part of the city can go, part can’t? Yikes. Bakersfield appears to hit that at 123 miles (if they go as a crow) when I use the name of the city in one of those as the crow flies calculators.

(I’m not picking on 120, this will be a problem no matter what restrictions are put up. Someone will qualify, someone next door won’t...)

Oh geez! Ok yes let's hope this 120 mile thing is just a rumor then. For the sake of DL and all other theme parks and employees.

My DVC reservation for 10/22 is still there. But I looked at the DVC calendar and I would be willing to bet that all reservations through 10/21 have now been cancelled. The calendar was wide open 10/15-10/21 for all room types. So, reservations cancelled but they have not yet blocked the calendars for those dates yet.
They don't have to officially block it for those rooms to not be bookable. I tried to coordinate with another DISser on this thread who cancelled their 10/9 reservation a few weeks ago, and even though it was available and I had a wait list for those dates, it never came through/the system never allowed me to book it. I think they just put a hold on rooms as they cancel if they aren't planning for the resort to be open.
I wonder what this would mean for DVC owners (because a majority are out of town). It’s not as simple as cancelling a reservation and getting your money back, like with the hotel reservations. Sure, you’ll get your points back, but points are allocated the way they are for a reason. Having a massive surplus of points kicked down the road will throw the whole reservation system/availability into a tailspin. And if these are in fact the restrictions in place, will they continue with the relaxed policies on banking/borrowing if they open up the resort? Pretty sure most people wouldn’t use their points to stay at VGC without a theme park to go to..
They could open VGC, and I'd go even if I couldn't go to the parks. I live 420 miles away; my official Disney address is about 170 miles due to the fact that half my travel party on AP monthly payments live that distance, but we'd still go. I think a lot of us would.

I will admit - I did not try to actually book the VGC room today when poking around on DVC Member. In July before they announced dates (to open and then rescinded), I had a long standing vgc reservation for 7/15 - 7/17 that was cancelled. I assumed there was some error, so I went in and re-booked it right away since it was showing open. Cancelled within 24 hours , so I tried again with only 1 night and that took about 24-36 hours to cancel. By then, they made the announcement so I knew that the hotel was not to be open yet at that point. So I was still able to rebook twice even after it was cancelled. An email when they cancel would go a long way so that I did not re-book something that would not happen.

Is there an update today?

EDIT: Meaning an update from the state*

I’m doing too much multi tasking today lol

Right? People are traveling locally, from 120 miles. from farther than that, and from out of state just to go to DTD on any given day! And what about City Walk and Knott's festivals? People are mingling at theme parks already and at the hotels by DLR that are open. Sigh...

So something I have been thinking about.... coaches and teachers in Texas don't only work where they live. Some may live somewhere for the school system, just a better town, etc.... but then they drive 1.5-2 hrs to work every day. How is this going to affect employees that live over 120 miles away, are they just going to be laid off? What about management and upper management for the park, does that mean people like Josh won't be allowed in, because their address is not within 120 miles?

They would probably be exempt. It's easy to show documentation that you are employed somewhere.

I just need a moment to whine here with people who understand where I might be coming from. Bear with me...

I really really hope that CA releases its theme park reopening guidelines soon. I'm tired of waiting. I have tickets in hand, that we purchased in January of this year. I'm willing to pay a couple of nights to stay in an on site hotel even. We were supposed to go to DL JUST before everything shut down, but we postponed our trip because YDD was sick with the flu.

Like everyone else, I rescheduled multiple times. Only to be disappointed. ARGH!

We had a family trip with my sister planned for a week in Maui in July. That got postponed to next March. A couple of weeks ago, I told my sister that we're pulling out of the Maui trip. We got a refund on our airfare. My sister is still going. She's inviting some friends to join her instead. She's frustrated that we chose to cancel, but I'm not going to shell out $140 x 4 for 72-hr-beforehand COVID-19 tests at the last minute, with the possibility that it could be all for nothing if 1 of us tested positive.

My sister said, "I want to go on vacation! I haven't been on a vacation in over a year! I want to go to Hawaii, so I'm still planning on going if they cancel the 72 hr-test-beforehand rule by then."

When I told her yesterday of my frustration & sadness over DL still being closed with no reopening date, she said, "Well, over 1M people HAVE died from this disease worldwide." I got mad and snapped at her, "There's nothing I can do about that. How come it's ok for you to want to go to Hawaii but I can't be mad that Disneyland hasn't reopened yet?"

So there you have it. That's kind of how I feel right now. I took solace in my garden early this morning and cried about it while watering my plants. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to cry tears of joy once we are finally able to go again.

I feel really bad for all of the CMs who are being laid off. I want to go to DL. I want to spend some money there. I can't really talk about this on social media or with very many people I know in person. And holy cow, don't even broach this topic on the Community Board because you'll get skewered over it.

I have a whole lot of respect for Josh D'Amaro. I'm so glad that he's the head of Parks & Resorts now. He's the right person for the job. Him going in person to talk with the CMs and all that and apologize to them just shows how much of a class act he is.
