Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

And the public bashing has started by DL President and the Anaheim Mayor. Some of those words used speak lawsuit to me...

I think a lawsuit is inevitable at this point. The question I'm wondering is will it just be Disney or will Universal and one of the other major chains join in?

This is really, really discouraging. These guidelines seem completely unrealistic. My heart breaks for CMs and workers in the businesses in the area that depend on the parks. It didn’t have to be this way. Theme parks may not be essential businesses, but they can be operated safely and allow people who want to to work. Devastating.

Honestly the idea of there being a lawsuit kind of fascinates me. Because I can't see it causing a change rather quickly (unless the judge is rather quick). And also I'm wondering in addition to the big names getting effected is any of the smaller businesses around DL can submit evidence on how they're impacted by this.

Shanghai Disney opened in May 2020 which was six months after the Coronavirus outbreak was discovered in Wuhan in December 2019. How is it California is more restrictive than China?

We all want to keep high risk people safe while still keeping those who are able to go to work employed. My heart goes out to all of the cast members and all of the other people who make a living off of these theme parks who are suffering through these closures, layoffs and uncertainty.

I think CA and also NY (Broadway) got hit the hardest and since it was early and they were really the ones who took the bigest loss in the learning curve so they are being very careful becuase they can't go through another huge wave.

My DLR AP actually ends on Nov 5 so I am going to take and wait and see approach. Even with WDW I'm going to wait to see how they handle the holiday season before I consider any trips in 2021.

In case anyone was curious, there is a trial v. Newsom tomorrow that can potentially overturn all of his executive orders on the basis of unconstitutionality as just happened in Michigan. Gallagher and Kiley are the plaintiffs I believe. Maybe Disney is waiting to see how this goes

Ah so that's the piece of information about IDs I was missing. I was wondering if there was a way to see where the IDs originate from since we don't on CO drivers license. Now it makes more sense how they can enforce the county only restrictions.

A zip code range wouldn't totally work to contain to county. Between Contra Costa and Alameda, for example, we have some numbers that run between the others (so like since Contra Costa with "945XX", Alameda with "947XX", but then some "948XX" in Contra Costa). What they could do is just go by city honestly. I even know all the cities that are in each county in the various counties within the Bay; not just my own of Contra Costa. The one checking ID just needs a list of the allowed cities.

So it's enforceable.

I don't like pointing it at politics. But this really does feel like political grandstanding in some ways as much as it being the virus. Probably a mix of both to be honest.

So anyone think there’s any way this will change? I remember earlier in the pandemic Newsom opened the state up earlier than he said he would...

I just don’t see how much longer he can sustain this without major pushback. I actually have agreed with many of his decisions during the past few months but he’s lost me with this one.

I think it's possible that things could change, but I think there are few things that make me think that he's not going to change his mind:

1. When he opened up in June, there was a large spike in Covid in California following that. That probably made him a lot more gun shy this time around.
2. Covid cases in the US are on the rise also, it's possibly going to be worse than in July on a national level. My guess he feels that opening up theme parks and Disneyland in particular will attract more out of state visitors potentially from places where Covid is spiking. He doesn't have any control over those places, and I think travel restrictions are probably difficult to implement realistically.

That would make a great deal of sense. Though I'm curious what the trial's on. Gotta a link to more info?

Also even if it doesn't go their way. It may give us a very real indicator on how quick of a turnaround to

Yeah this makes a lot more sense now. Thanks for the information

Wowza thats depressing. Heading to WDW in a few weeks but still have a trip planned to DL the first week of March. I know thats a long time away but it could be a long time before Anaheim hits yellow status.

We go every other November, and I’m honestly not sure it’ll be open next year at that time. :/

"Arbitrary and Unacceptable" - Legoland

“The guidance issued today by the state is arbitrary and unacceptable to the industry,” said Kurt Stocks, president of the Carlsbad-based park, in a statement. “Not allowing theme parks to open until Tier 4 will destroy the industry in California and the economic impact to industries that rely heavily on theme parks will be catastrophic. The administration’s actions to this point have cost tens of thousands of jobs across the industry, and today’s announcement will all but confirm that thousands more will be lost. Legoland California Resort has developed a comprehensive and robust reopening plan, taking every precaution to meet and exceed guidelines given to other businesses and industries since voluntarily closing seven months ago.”

I'm just going to sit in the corner and cry. I'm not terribly surprised by this announcement, but had hoped for in state visitors at orange. And it means that I'll be cancelling my Thanksgiving trip. It's also added to that my county can't seem to get out of purple and my kids' can't get back into the dance studio, despite having done it safely over the summer (before he changed it under this new tiered system). Yet they announce today ALL personal care services can now open indoors under purple. It doesn't make any sense. Why isn't it safe for 4 girls to get into a 2,000 sq ft dance studio room, masked & socially distance but the rest of this is allowed? Not expecting answers, just frustrated that we can't get this one normal thing back for our kids. (and since we've been dealing with fires, air quality has been hit and miss making outdoor stuff hard).
