bridge GF to MK

That front lot, closer to that bridge is a cm parking, but if you are parked close to it you can use it, puts you right next to the security booth for the poly

are you able to walk across that road though? that was my only worry/question

Most likely no. If I’m remembering that correctly, that path connects the CM lot for Poly and only CMs have access to it.
Unless things have changed, and I don't believe they have, it's open to anyone. It's not backstage, there is no security there. It's simply a walking path/crosswalk that connects the cast lot (again, with no barriers) to the lot between the TTC and the Poly.

The new walkway already came in handy last night when the resort monorails weren’t running for a while. Timed the path from Gasparillas to the front of MK where the sign for it is located next to the new boat docks at a very leisurely 12-13 min pace. Way quicker than walking to HS from BCV or BWV.

Now that the impossible is done.
Do you think we could see a path from Wilderness either to the ttc or through the tunnel to Contemporary?(I don't mean today, tomorrow or this year)
Basically the big barrier I see is crossing a rather busy World Dr. You'd either need a crosswalk with a signal, or a pedestrian bridge. A pedestrian bridge would be big and ugly(my opinion). Though you could accomplish the same task by going over world dr at the tunnel on the TTC side eliminating the need to go hugely vertical over world drive.
The tunnel does have a sidewalk, but I would think that would have to be walled off somehow to contain folks on the sidewalk.
Certainly the cheapest option would be a path to TTC, with a crosswalk signal. It would certainly open up a world of possibilities to Wilderness lodge guests and if Reflections is re energized.

The motivation to spend the money on the GF swing bridge is still a curious one to me, and makes me think it adds credence to the various monorail rumors.

I would highly doubt it. Too dangerous to have people walking through that rather thin tunnel. And I don’t see them bridging over World Dr.

Yep. At the end of nights I have taken the GF/POLY boat instead of waiting for the monrail/ferry and walked from the Poly to the lot.

Btw for those wondering just asked security and they close both the CR and GF walkways when the MK is clear of guests each night

There is potentially a better way.....

WL bridge to the Contemporary. There is a fairly narrow spot, just before the classic "overhead waterway". Bridge that gap? WL to Contemporary, Contemporary to MK. Just a thought....

While I certainly like the idea, you'd have to go fairly high vertically to clear all the boats that pass through, that includes the river boat. The frequency of boat traffic means a drawbridge/swing bridge is a tough sale as well. You would need a pedestrian ferry, which then requires labor etc making that a poor choice.

The other option that doesn't really require too much infrastructure change is changing world drive (and Floridian way) to one way traffic, essentially making a loop around the MK and lagoon. You then are able to add more width to the walkway already in the tunnel.
That would make World drive easier to cross with with a crosswalk signal, or integrate a pedestrian bridge at the tunnel(using the inherit elevation gain at the tunnel).

It's still very curious as to why they finally completed this path. I have to believe that some transportation option is leaving the GF. Some suggested the launches would go away when the Reflections property came online, but they've actually added a boat dock.

I know the peninsula by the tunnel isn't suppose to be suitable for construction(or cheap construction). Can't help but think the lagoon and bay lake are still highly coveted for resort building. Had Covid not hit us, I can't help but wonder what the next step would be after Reflections. I can't help but think the space between the canal and florida way would be a real good spot for a new deluxe resort with maybe a dvc component. Too bad Covid is such a buzz kill.

So, we left MK the other night and the boat was not back at the dock yet, so we decided to walk! I’ll admit, it was great having that option!!! The walk was lovely. The path is well lit and surroundings are beautiful. The monorail drivers above beeped their horns at us, and everyone on the path was waiving! It was fun! We walked briskly and beat our friends back to the resort, who decided to wait for the boat...with time to spare 😆 Felt longer than the walk from BW to HS, but not sure if it actually was. I’d take that path any day before waiting around for the boat/monorail. So happy it’s finally completed!

I'm very happy there's a walking path from the TTC to MK. I always hated the process of getting to and from MK.

The sidewalk under the water bridge is fairly wide. If they were worried about someone stepping into the street they could install a metal railing at the back of the curb. That would be relatively inexpensive.

Can you walk to Contemporary even if MK is closed? Say you had a late dinner reservation there...
