How DCL fans view other ships…

Ngl...i think this is how fans of other lines view DCL, not the other way around.

Exception may be Carnival, but they also get a lot of negative press.

I can cruise a lot more often if I don't cruise Disney. But the entire Disney company really is having a Come to Jesus moment because they may have finally reached the point where they have raised prices too much.

I agree. I think they are starting to see this and are starting to pull their socks up. A few months ago I was able to book a 7 night on the Fantasy for $2800, total for two people. It's been a LONG time since I was able to do that. Mind you, it's a GTY ocean view and the price has now gone up $1000 but we still haven't seen that for a bit. Our Feb sailing in an ocean view was close to $5000 for us.
Not sure how long they will play with deals either at WDW or DCL but they need to continue with a few bargains to get people back.

Yeah, and by comparison our last cruise was 7 days on Celebrity in October 2019 for $1,250 for two adults for a balcony. That same cruise for October 2023 is $848 for two adults with a balcony.

Yes. I would be lying if I didn't see other ships in port and think how glad I was to be sailing DCL. There is something special about it. That said, it may be completely irrational, as I have only sailed one other line a very long time ago. I have two Celebrity cruises booked for 2024, so we will see how I feel after those. But Disney hits most of our wish list for cruising and we sure do love it even with all adults sailing. Their ships are my happy place.

Ironically, while we find Disney stuff fun, it's not really the Disney characters/decor that draw us to the ships now that our kids are grown. We don't ever wait in line for the characters and find ourselves skipping most of the shows now. We also prefer the non-show dinners. So we will see if we can find what we want on other lines at much better prices or if we are right that DCL is the best line for us.

I don't regret my Disney cruise. Not sure whether my Granddaughters will be interested when they get older, but otherwise, I'm at the point of my life where going on more cruises with the savings on other lines takes priority.

That's completely reasonable. I am at a stage where taking vacation time is a huge hurdle for me, so I tend to splurge when I do travel, minimizing the risk that the time won't be spent well. That said, I suspect we will be pretty happy with some ships on other lines. As much as I love DCL, the value to cost ratio keeps getting worse. It's one of the reasons we scaled back our park visits significantly for other cool options. We don't want to splurge just for the sake of it. We have to feel like we get our money's worth.

Oh many, until my wife and I retired, that was the case for us. We got 4 weeks off, but February, May, July and November were vacation blackout months. And for my wife, her vacation requests based on her seniority had to be submitted by September 1st for the next year. Otherwise, she could only get time off if nobody else requested it.

If I could find one, I would post a photo of people looking at the Disney ships with smiles and happiness - because I have been on other ships when in port and hear people talk about the DCL ships favorably. There has always been something that attracts people to the classic colors and lines of Disney ships (those yellow lifeboats really help).

I think a lot of cruisers are fascinated to see other ships. I love to see the port cams for Miami or watch other ships sail in or out of Nassau. Think of how many times you have waved or been waved at by passengers standing on another ship.

It's how people on this forum view other cruise lines. It's how they justify paying double for their cruise.

I've talked to people on Royal that think anyone cruising Disney without kids is to be questioned or maybe even thrown in jail.

There are actually a lot of cruise lines out there that are more upscale than Disney. I'm not sure how they view Disney. I'm sure the amount of kids is off-putting.

As someone that has dabbled in a few different cruise lines, I will say there are a lot of misconceptions out there.

Just for fun.

One of the things I enjoy doing when we take Bahamian cruises is to look out around our ship on fireworks night. You’ll always see several other ships in the distance. I’ve always had this impression that over on the Royal Caribbean ship they are saying “if you look off to the port side this evening, Disney has fireworks.”

Disney has so far had the best ships doing those short cruises out of PC. Other cruise lines put their best ships on the 7 day Caribbeans. .

Royal is now throwing Icon of the Seas up against the Wish. So we'll see. As someone that has cruised Disney 29 times and Royal three times and has experienced the abomination known as the Wish. I think Royal will give them a run for their money on the short cruises out of PC.

All my Royal cruises have been great I really like both cruise lines. It' all comes down to price and itinerary.

While I'm glad to be sailing on DCL and am not interested in sailing other mass market cruise lines, this is definitely not my attitude when I see other ships.

At sea, it's often a pleasure to see other ships in the distance, especially at night when they're lit up. At port, I'm often checking out their waterslides, verandahs, and people watching.

Nothing snobby is going through my head.

We have sailed on 15 Disney cruises and have been on all 5 ships. Never tried another line. We decided to do a 4 night out of Port Canaveral in late October. The Wish , for an inside room, was a little over $3000. Checked Royal on a whim and found we could do the same dates, same itinerary (except for castaway/coco cay) for $1482 in a balcony stateroom. We are now trying Royal’s Independence of the seas.
We have one set for the Dream for next spring so not abandoning DCL. But if Royal suits us we will be doing less Disney cruises for that price.

Lol. Being more a fan of Royal, you sometimes get that impression based on a very small number of posts on this forum.

It's how people on this forum view other cruise lines. It's how they justify paying double for their cruise.

I do agree that this happens here. But if you go to the cc boards, you'll see some tribalism for other cruise lines as well.

At the end of the day, it's not a big deal to me. I think most people are mostly objective with their comments, and a partisan view of a cruise line isn't particularly egregious. People like what they like, and I find the broad spectrum of opinions to be very helpful, no matter if it's a ship I'm going to sail on or not.

But still - that's a pretty funny pic.

I remember our last cruise (med round trip 2017) approaching the Disney Magic at the Port of Barcelona and thinking “wow, it’s tiny!!” compared to the other ships in port, but that’s why I was glad I was on Disney, certainly not looking down my nose at the others (your pic made me laugh though!)

Our next cruise (15 days eek!) will be our last Disney cruise I’m sure, with my kids past the age of caring about the activities. It’s certainly given me the cruise bug though
