Free Covid Home Test program resuming Monday

I do agree. It's a decision I have to make when going to work; hence, why I think it's important to test for COVID. Like it or not, many of us have no choice but to go to work if we've got the sniffles and symptoms of a cold. People have been going to work for EONS with cold symptoms. The common cold is contagious, but it's actually not that contagious and hand hygiene and control symptoms goes a long way to not spreading it. It doesn't spread like COVID. So, if I've got a cold, and I truly know it's just a cold, I will go into the office because I have to walk that line of job performance. If I know I've got COVID, I won't go into the office period because I know how transmissable it is.

But anyway, I was agreeing with you that it's not the reality for most people that they can hunker down indoors for any and every illness. In a perfect world? Sure.
Unless you test for every sniffle, at this point you won't know if it is truly just a cold or covid. Many covid cases have the same symptoms as the common cold now. I have kids in school. If I tested for every sniffle, I would be testing all the time. We stay home if we feel sick enough or have a fever and carry on if we don't.

I've got to double check if I have a need for new tests based on the expected expiration dates and what I have in the pantry but I hadn't realized they'd be doing it again, good to know they are.

So just keep scrolling. Why why why do people keep arguing this crap! Wear a mask. Don’t wear a mask. Just everyone shut up about it. No one is changing anyone’s mind anyway. Good grief.
Sorry, I'll bite. What exactly was the poster you quoted "arguing"?

Thank you, OP! I appreciate the post! I have an immunocompromised father (organ transplant), so we are still very careful for his sake. I also have coworkers in the office who are not in the best of health, so I still use the tests to not spread anything to them. I have some long Covid in my circle (all younger, previously very healthy people), and that has been eye opening. Again, thank you!!!

Never? Ever? What if you, a family member, a friend has a bone marrow transplant for cancer or some other issue? Or other situations where they are mandatory for your or somebody else's wellbeing? Never? Ever?
It's like some people forgot (or are too ignorant to know), that people were wearing masks long before Covid. Several situations where they are appropriate. Especially people with severely compromised lungs/respiratory system.

I heard a quote recently that very much sums up why everyone has a different response to COVID with regards to symptoms that I really liked: ”The problem with COVID is that it is an inflammatory virus that masquerades as a respiratory virus.”

never ever do I plan on ever wearing one of those masks.
I really, really want to just metaphorically walk away from this, but really it’s so asinine. I do surgery and I’ve worn a mask much of my adult life. It’s such a shame I’ve been so hypoxemic this whole time and IQ points just slipping away…….

Adding:

It‘s just basic hygiene at this point.

Fecal:Oral route disease transmission = wash your hands before touching food or putting your hands in your mouth.

Aerosolized droplet disease transmission = reduce environmental contamination by reducing aerosolized droplets ie wear a mask. It’s basic preschool hygiene level.

I have been testing for every sniffle because I do NOT want to pass Covid on to anyone else. Even if it's just a sniffle for me, Covid could be devastating for someone else.

I'm on day 8 right now. The first 2 and a half days were pretty awful, though mild compared to the worst Covid can really do. I'm hoping for a negative test tomorrow.

If home tests were readily available and affordable for all kinds of diseases, I would be all for it!

🤞🏻. Hope you’re feeling better & testing negative soon.

Thanks OP, ordering some for several family members.

Thank you to all of our fellow DISer's who stated they practice protocols
to protect others.
By the grace of God I haven't had Covid - I've worn a mask everywhere since March 2020.
I do NOT want to catch it, even if it's "like a cold."
I am not a candidate for Paxlovid, & I've stated before I am an insulin dependent diabetic w/kidney disease.

I thought some of you may find this interesting:

"In August, Klompas and his colleagues published a paper showing that
masking and screening for COVID at Brigham and Women’s also decreased flu and RSV infections by about 50%."

"A recent study found that more cancer patients died of COVID during the omicron surge (Feb 2022)
than in the first winter wave (2020-21), in part because people around them had stopped taking precautions
."
