Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk opening in 2024

I wish they would have a Cake Bake food truck for the time being. The setting is probably not elegant enough, but who cares. They can serve with pretty paper plates and gold plastic forks.

Shocked when we saw the lack of progress on the cake place last week when we were there. I could hardly notice that much progress from when we were there 10 months prior. Seems like they have one carpenter working on it 5 days a week! We don't really care about the cake place - doubt we'll even go there (seems a little odd to us). But whether it's a sports bar or cake restaurant or a gift shop, it's a major eyesore right now and needs to be completed. Of course, there are now several eyesores along the boardwalk. Kind of sad when we walked through it.

Yeah the food trucks pulling onto the Boardwalk.... are not a great look.

Love the area, but wonder sometimes... what keeps those gaming kiosks and even the Jellyrolls and the Dance Hall open.
Did hear someone working on it last Saturday, some overtime going on? But the amount of work going on is not normal for the real world. Of course I expected Epcot to be nearly wall-less and it isn't.

Is the red ladder there?

Not opposed to the idea or concept. Just think that they took left turn replacing a sports bar with ??
Was never a good location for the sports bar since there is virtually no parking. I had hoped they would put a good sports bar at Disney Springs. Like the NBC GRILL at CityWalk. Big and Sports oriented. They literally could have replicated that as ESPN where DisneyQuest was.

That looks like the biggest progress made since they started. Well, maybe December trip will happen for me. JK :rotfl2:

Installing some windows seems to be as far as they’ve gotten. The lack of progress is truly astounding.

Heck it’s just been over a year
How many years have we endured the Epcot : experimental prototype construction of tomorrow ?

And besides Disney can’t help it if
EPIC Universe has hired every construction worker and available crane in the Orlando area.
Haha
I just drove along Destination Parkway between Orange Blossom and International Drive to view the progress.
The dome skeleton for the top of the new Helios Resort is in view already !
And they did not appear to work on the weekends . Perhaps they are Union labor workers?
Actually I should have counted all those cranes They do have a lot ! But maybe the cranes are unionized … Who knows … .
I am tired of cupcakes and will probably go to the Cake Bale Shop many times .
I love cake .
I just found out if I download the Publix App on my phone ….Free Cake on my birthday!

Has it ever been determined whether it’s Disney or Cake Bake Shop in charge of the construction? Anywhere I have worked it has been the responsibility of the tennant to do any remodeling, and I am sure CBS doesn’t have the resources that Disney does. That could be good or bad, since we know how long it takes Disney to get things done sometimes. I know CBS has been focused on getting their offsite bakery built, which may have been a higher priority for them, since it would need to be up and running in order for the shop to have product to sell.

I am looking forward to having a nice slice of cake too.

Think about it took three years to build Epcot Center - from 1979 to 1982. At opening, there was Spaceship Earth, Universe of Energy, World of Motion, Journey into Imagination, the Land, and Communicore. The countries in World Showcase included all the ones that are there now with the exception of Morocco & Norway.

......and how long did it take them to build the Journey of Water?

It is going to be very interesting how successful it is-with ESPN Club, folks would pop out of Epcot or DHS to catch a game and have a meal.

Will that same dynamic happen here or will it strictly turn out to be a "destination" visit where parking, etc. is not convenient.

That was pretty much what I was thinking

During the fall there was nearly always a line of folks waiting to get into the ESPN Club. I don't see that kind of interest happening with the cake place. Now if they offer a very nice afternoon tea (and Disney doesn't at the Grand) they may have something.
I agree the parking is going to be more complicated than what most folks expect.

Yet, somehow Flying Fish doesn’t seem to suffer. Not sure if it’s because it’s dinner only (and a res gets you in the lot?) or it gets a huge percentage of folks from Crescent Lake hotels and park transportation. Cake Bake shop May “fit” aesthetically, but it seems to have many potential pitfalls being situated on the Boardwalk. OTOH, I’m often wrong about what will and won’t work at WDW. (I thought ESPN Club was genius).

It's not unusual for us to eat twice at FF during our visits.
I'm guessing a big slab of cake, shared, will be a one and done.
