Official 2018 Star Wars Dark Side Weekend

This may be the wrong forum for the advice you request. Do it! Besides, you already mentioned a meet-up and wouldn't that be more fun if you were waking up at some ugly hour with the rest of us?

I knew I loved you for a reason.

That's for real. I have NOTHING on the horizon until Marathon Weekend and I've already got that bib covered.

**SPOILER ALERT**

I'm the worst.
I'm in for the Challenge.

Quick. Who wants to teach me about Star Wars?!?!

Maybe one of these to fill the void in the fall? :)

It all starts with a character named Jar Jar Binks. Through his evil actions, he plunges the entire universe into darkness and tyranny until a kid from a desert planet starts a fight at a bar, kisses his sister, then gets his father killed; thereby, freeing the universe from tyrannical rule and plunging it into chaotic anarchy. It's a classic!

I am one of the biggest Star Wars fans out there and I absolutely love this! Keep em coming!

Is there an official list of all the character/photo stops that were on the courses for the 10k and Half? Ive been trying to find one list and havent been able to.

TIA

I don’t think there are ever official lists but I’d love to hear who/what traditionally meets and if there has been a pattern as I’m a planner...
fwiw I did the W&D 10k both years it’s been in its present incarnation and only one on course character repeated though there is a bigger pool to pull at then Star Wars

I can't wait to see the shirt designs! I'm hoping the 10K shirt isn't bright red but with the Praetorian Guard theme I wont be surprised.

I get so red in the face, I already look like a tomato when I run so a red shirt will only make it worse :rotfl:

Ugh ... I mean, probably.

My race reports with pics https://www.disboards.com/threads/d...-side-2017-half-marathon-trip-report.3601376/ from 2017. All the characters are very similar race to race with only minor differences. Of course this year could be different. I stopped for everyone in the 5k, all but repeating chewie & the throne in the 10k & then just the two backdrops in the half. SO all are represented that we got last year.

Before & After was
Vader
Boba
Jabba
BB-8
Rogue One backdrop
Kylo Ren
Captain Phasma

During the races which varied a smidge race to race but basically the same for each one
R2-D2
Ezra & Sabine
Chewbacca
Emperor's Throne Chair
Ewoks - 5k & half I think
Speeder Bike - 10k & half I think
Stormtroopers
Darth Maul - 10k & half
Trash Compactor & Wampa Cave - Half only

10k & Half had like 501st & Cosplayers so a variety of characters and randoms are out with them. Like Boba & Jango, a Rey, random pilots, stormtroopers, sith, a palpatine, basically anyone

Depending on time, I recommend the following.

If you have lots of it, watch Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of the Jedi (1983) followed by The Force Awakens (2015), and The Last Jedi (2017). These are the best Star Wars movies. The first 3 I listed feature the worm guy, the guy trapped in a rock, and the dangerous and deadly teddy bears. The last 2 I listed take place approximately 30 years after Return of the Jedi.

If you're short on time, just watch The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. These are Disney released Star Wars films and will feature heavily in the themeing of this particular race weekend. For instance, all the Dark Side medals come from these two films.

If you want to, you can watch Episodes I, II, and III and Rogue One, but these are not crucial to the story. Some people despise Episodes I, II, and III. I don't, but they're not as good as any of the other films in my opinion.

And for the record, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi have a lot of great lines that so apply to this race weekend.

Like this one:

Give yourself to the Dark Side.

Or this one:

You don't know the power of the Dark Side.

While we're on the subject... shall we debate viewing order? :flower:
I go back and forth between episode number order and release date order, myself, with episode order usually winning out - BUT Rogue One kinda throws a wrench in that. Going from Rogue One to Ep. I makes Ep. I more painful than it already is on its own. ;) I'm a solid "No" on Machete Order.
