DHS - Stumped!

We did as Sci-Fi with 11 and were in 2 cars next to each other. It worked out great. We did lunch and it was such a nice quiet, COOL break from the heat of DHS. We welcomed the quiet and cool. Food was good too.

We enjoy SciFi, but I can see how that may not work for your party size from a seating perspective. Have you considered leaving the park? The Beach Club is just a short boat ride away and we love Beaches and Cream.

Was going to suggest this, but considering the size of the party, it's a tough get. Considering it would be probably 1/3 of the capacity of Beaches and Cream. My suggestion is always Beaches and Cream...but considering they would need most of the tables in there (not counting the booths or bar area) it would be a matter of freeing up 3 tables at the same time, which considering how busy it is....could be tough. I think you'd have maybe better luck at the Fountain at the Dolphin.

Ultimately, my recommendation would be if you CAN get Beaches and Cream for that size party at 180 days...do it.

Take the boat to the Boardwalk and eat somewhere over there. We don't mind missing the park time- we find the boat an experience all on its own. Even if you end up at ESPN Club, the food is better than anything at DHS. We have had good meals at Big River Grill which is also on the Boardwalk, and often not as busy as other restaurants.

The Mediterranean Chicken Salad at the ABC Commissary was surprisingly good. I see that the place is now taking dinner reservations which could be helpful with a large group. It’s indoors with air-conditioning so that’s a plus too.

I’m pretty sure Beaches and Cream is being expanded into the adjoining arcade later this year, making it larger. Hopefully, space won’t be such an issue then.

For your size group, I think Mama Melrose is the best option. The food has always been good even if it is not gourmet Italian and it's possible for them to set up a table that will fit all of you. As PP said, there are a couple of options on the Boardwalk that you can look into if you are willing to take the time to leave the park.

I also think MM is a good idea for that size party. I would consider the ABC commissary for dinner if the OP wants an ADR and QS. Because no one knows how the crowd levels will be due to GE, and because of the limited dining options in DHS I would plan on some ADR for that park.

We’re going as a group of 11, and I’m booking Sci Fi. I love my family but a meal where we CAN’T talk to each other will be a nice break. lol Plus, I have 3 kids, so we put one in each row= no arguing with each other. :)
we just ate there on Friday and I LOVED that nobody talked. After five days of being together for every meal and all day it was nice to have a dark/quiet break!!

The never ending question is why with so many excellent QS options at the other 3 parks why can't they do something to improve the options at DHS?

Thank you to everyone for your input and suggestions. I always come up with some ideas and then get input from my sister, so we have a lot to talk about. I’m thinking if we are set at staying at DHS, we may do Mama Melrose or give 50s another shot. I do love the pb & j shake there :)

Love the suggestion of heading to Boardwalk or Beach Club for a park break. We just ate at Beaches & Cream (our family of 4) in January after not having eaten there for years and it was just as I had remembered. Perhaps with the expansion, we’ll have a better chance of getting an ADR there with our larger group.

Thanks again, all!

I think all the dining is lacking in that park. Most of the quick services are terrible and the sit downs aren't that great either. I like the themeing of sci-fi, but the isn't the best. You would be in two cars, if size is your only worry. The best option for food is to leave the park and take the boat over to an Epcot Resort. There is a lot of great options over there and can help with an afternoon break. Mama Melrose is okay Italian, but can be a good deal if you do the Fantasmic package with it.

Just saw the announcement about the new table service restaurant coming to Toy Story Land - Roundup Rodeo BBQ. Disney announced it today - no word on timing yet, but hope it’s open when we go early next year! We’d definitely try it.

They do have the cars that are also tables with chairs on one side at Sci-fi. Maybe you could split your party in two and ask for two of those. That would be your best bet imo. We do enjoy it there though and always enjoy the food and drinks.

You can now make reservations for ABC Commissary so you'd have a guaranteed table even though it's a quick service. You get to order your food in advance and they bring it out to you. Maybe check out their menu which has changed since the last time I went and see if it appeals to you.

I would echo 50s PT, give it another chance and if you're unhappy with your food, tell them. They'll get you something else.

Sci-Fi has tables in the back so you could technically sit as a group.

Like PPs, we did Sci Fi with a group of 10 and they sat us in cars next to each other. The kids thought it was cool. If you're really worried about the seating in the cars, they do have regular tables towards the back they can seat you all in.

I agree with PPs that Woody's is out with a large group - seating is awful and its all outdoors. QS is lacking at DHS IMO, so I would either book Sci Fi or take a break by going to a restaurant over at the Boardwalk. ESPN Club doesn't take reservations and can usually accommodate a larger group, or Cape May at Beach Club is a good option.

No kidding right?? I love how quiet this place is. im sorry, but sometimes you need a somewhat silent break. You spend the entire vacay with your family from morning to night...a little peace and quiet in a cool dim environment will do wonders!

And i agree that 2 cars side by side would work out great for a part of 12.

Mama Melrose: We live in an area with excellent Italian restaurants and eat at them quite often so we usually avoid Italian food on vacation.

I live in NYC and there's obviously a lot of good Italian food here, but I was pleasantly surprised by Mama Melrose when we ate there in 2017 (we did the Fantasmic! package).

Based on your group's composition, I think it would work best, esp. since you are down on 50's Prime Time.
