Christmas or August

We love August. It’s no hotter at Disney then at home and the crowds are much lighter. We also enjoy the later park hours and doing water parks.

Christmas for sure. The decorations will be amazing. Aug is so incredibly hot and peak hurricane season. We have gone in Aug a few times and each year it gets more and more crowded. Now they start the F & W festival in Aug as well as the Halloween parties. They are doing everything they can to fill the parks year round so there really is no slow time. Plus GE is opening end of Aug this year which may increase crowds.

I'd go with August, too. The crowds aren't bad. Weather (in my opinion) is always questionable down there, regardless of the time of year.
I've never been down there in December, but I did go during Thanksgiving week once, and that was a nightmare. I've heard that going during the holidays is the absolute worst time of year (in terms of crowds), so I will never go then. If I thought Thanksgiving week was bad (and it was), I hate to imagine how much worse it can get.

I'm another vote for August, due to crowds.
We also are looking at mid-August 2020 for a family trip. Sounds like my kids may be similar ages to yours. Next year we will have a daughter 2nd year of college, son 11th grade, son 7th grade. College kids CAN'T miss a week of school. Boys could, but the catch-up they'd have to do would suck. I'll admit, I didn't even consider Christmas time, although that could work schedule-wise. Too busy and more expensive.

Thanks for understanding all these people saying may or this other time .. I just can’t
Yep in 2020 I will have a college student, a grade 9, grade 3 and grade 1. My college bound kid truly is my second parent . I can’t imagine vacationing without him :(

I've been a lot in August and we've had great trips, but it is its own special brand of hot. If hot, ultra-humid weather is your #1 concern, then August is going to be a challenge. If huge crowds are your #1 concern, then Christmas will be a challenge. (I'll also say I've been on some August days where there were crowd level 10 days, so you're not automatically immune from large crowds if you go that month.) There are ways to mitigate the effect of both August heat and Christmas crowds, but not avoid them entirely. Pros & cons to both approaches.

I don't consider being packed in like a sardine to be a "wonderful time" by any stretch of the imagination.
But that's not accurate. You are not packed in, maybe on Christmas Day itself, but the rest of the time its no worse that 4th of July or any other holiday.

Frequent August trippers here, and I would say also depends on the number of days you are looking to book. If you are concerned about the heat, but you have 5+ days to space out the trip, you can easily do parks only for 4-5 hours per day while mixing up morning and nights, with pool time in the high noon sun, the heat is not bad at all. This year the temp/humidity wasn’t bad at all, but most days it rained from 2-4 pm on queue. Book both and then you don’t have to choose 😜
