A Disneyland Proposal....

Wow... I was pleased with my hubby's proposal but yours is going to knock the girl off her feet.

So excited for you guys. I like to make exciting plans for special occasions 2 and I did a surprise trip for my DHs birthday last year.... Funnily enough he proposed 5 weeks later....& we married in February this year. I'm sure Amy is going to love this entire trip and will not want to let u get away.... That's definitely the reaction my then BF had after his birthday last year. I've just booked us a trip to DLP for his birthday next year too.... Can't wait... It's not a surprise though this time though I'll try to book a few surprises in for the day itself. Too hard to surprise cause he needs to take 5 weeks off work (his own business) for a trip to Europe from Australia.

I cannot wait to hear the full trip report.... Hope you are able to share some pics to so we can all live vicariously through you.

Just read this thread. She's such a lucky girl. You've done an amazing job organizing all this in secret. Just one thing, not sure if you'll see this, but I hope reception don't have a note on your booking about the proposal and mention it in front of her. They probably won't but that's the kind of thing I'd panic about. Hope you have an amazing trip.

So exciting! Can't wait to hear how it all went! Sounds like a dream come true.

Finally home and settled, and time for a VERY quick update;

One word;

WOW!

I honestly could not describe just how well the whole thing went. Massive report to follow once we've unpacked and recovered, both emotionally and physically!

....oh, and it was a 'YES' :love:

Congratulations. Delighted all your planning paid off. Looking forward to reading all about it. :goodvibes

Righto, finally settled so here goes....

I cannot possibly put into words just how well everything went, it was like a Disney movie in itself! I'll attempt to do it justice, keep it brief (otherwise this report could be PAGES long) and try to remember everything (but will probably forget the majority) so here goes;

FRIDAY 24th
Keep in mind that all this was done under the guise of Amy's 'Birthday', which whilst it was, it was also cover for the proposal! I got up early and set up her presents with balloons, flowers etc. She read through all the stuff for the Spa Day that day, watched her 'announcement' DVD (she cried!) then had a look through her itinerary book and the 'supplies' drawer of the unit which had the cash, Vogue, etc.

We then had some breakfast which I'd prepared;

Once we were sorted we went for the Spa Day at the 5* hotel, it was absolutely lush and we more or less had the place to ourselves! We had use of the pool, jacuzzi etc, Amy had an hours massage, we had some lunch then a glass of champagne to finish up.

We then returned in the evening for a top-notch meal. It was beautiful and the service was fantastic! We can home about 11pm, but only because we were up early for the train the next morning, otherwise it could have easily turned into a 3am affair!

SATURDAY 25th

We were up early and away on the 7.30am train to Kings Cross, First Class, making good use of the free fodder and coffee en-route. Once there we dropped the bags at the Premier Inn round the corner. I'd rang them in advance and told them it was Amy's birthday and they greeted her in that very manner when we checked-in!

Once we'd dumped the bags we hit Oxford Streets for the shops, before heading over to Covent Garden where I told her we'd be seeing the Lion King that night, she was thrilled! Back at the hotel we got sorted for the evening, had our tea there then headed out to the theatre for the show. We got there about 45 minutes before the performance and got stung in the bar for pre-drinks to the tune of £9 for a glass of wine (!) and £6 for a little bottle of cider.

Luckily the show was fantastic and eased the emotional turmoil of the bar bill! The opening 'Circle Of Life' was incredible, as was the Mufasa (sp?) death scene, but the ending where Simba reclaimed his throne was proper goose-bumps stuff, when he was going up the steps I had shivers!

Back at the hotel we returned to the room to find the staff had left a hand-written birthday card and some Costa treats for us! Now that's service!

SUNDAY 26th

Up early again for the all-you-can-eat buffet at the Premier Inn. Stuffing ourselves at breakfast time was to become the theme of the trip, we must have saved a fortune on lunch/snacks as we didn't really need anything between breakfast and dinner every day!

If you're travelling by Eurostar I really couldn't recommend the Kings Cross Premier Inn enough, I paid £150ish for the room, breakfast and evening meal and it was absolutely fantastic. Central London, great food and fab service - ticked every box. Following check-out we headed over to St Pancreas and jumped aboard the Eurostar for the quick trip over, we were a bit giddy with excitement by this time!

We arrived and I got us situated outside the main gates. Now keep in mind that Amy thought we were staying at the Santa Fe, I was standing playing dumb claiming I didn't know which was to go. She was asking if I was blind as there was a massive sign reading 'DISNEY HOTELS' which included 'SANTA FE' in huge capital letters infront of us! It was at this point that I said "shall we just stay there instead", pointing at the DLH, you should have seen her face! :)

We checked in, got all our paraphernalia and got the card to the room. Now I'd emailed ahead requesting a nice room and my god, did they come up trumps! Amy was still speechless as we went into Room 1130 on the 1st floor, 30secs to reception, 2 mins to the restaurants and you could be at the park turnstyles within 3 minutes! It helped that the room was BEAUTIFUL too, with fresh flowers;

We had a quick freshen-up and got ourselves straight down to the parks. By this time it was about 3pm and the sun was shining, we did a bit of Main Street and went in search of a Photopass pack to make the most of it during our trip. That afternoon we did Ratatouille and Rock & Roller Coaster before getting sorted for the evening meal in Inventions. I did the maths and figured I needed to have five plates full to get my moneys worth, well I'm glad to say I had SIX, I've never had that much seafood, it was delicious. Amy is a vegetarian (meat and fish) but found plenty to satisfy, and we both left feeling like we were ready to give birth! The number of characters around was great too!

Afterwards we had a wander round the park before parking ourselves near Plaza Gardens for Dreams - still as amazing as I remember from last year!

MONDAY 27th - D-DAY

In an attempt to make it the greatest Disney say ever we got up at 7am and were waiting at the turnstyles at 7.50 ready to roll for EMH. As soon as they opened we legged it down to Main Street and had the place to ourselves, at least for a few minutes anyway!

a>

We then hit Buzz (twice) and Space Mountain before heading back to DLH for breakfast, again filling ourselves so we didn't need anything else for hours! Also met up with the main Mouse for a pic afterwards outside Inventions. The day was spent wandering around Disneyland Park and partaking in a few rides, the weather was that gorgeous it could easily have been mid-summer, it was shorts and t-shirt temperature! We also met Jack Skellington (who was marvelously charming) and Pluto in Adventureland too!

We did Meet Mickey Mouse, jeez was it warm in there, but was well worth it as we got some FANTASTIC pictures on the photopass! That was meeting #2 for Mickey that day, little did Amy know she'd be seeing him yet again later on!

Amy knew we were doing the 'Dream To Live' package that night but didn't know the details. We were booked in to begin the night at Cafe Fantasia so headed back to the DLH at 5pm to relax a bit and take our time getting ready so no need to rush. As we arrived back we bumped into Anna and Elsa doing an impromptu meet&greet pretty much right outside our room, made for a great picture! It was at this point that I supposedly got a call from reception saying there was a "problem with my credit card" and so I went down to sort it, leaving Amy in the room. And that's where things started to get REALLY good.....

Meeting with my contact at the DLH
Obviously there was no such problem with the card, and after 18 months of emailing back and forth, I finally met Piera, my contact at the DLH. She talked me through our confirmed plans then took me up to Cafe Fantasia and California Grill. There I met all the team in both venues, she introduced me to all the different folk who'd be playing a role in the evening; from the waitress, chef, manager and butler, it seemed EVERYONE was in on it!

This obviously gave me great reassurance that everything was going to go to plan, but my excitement went through the roof when she took me up to the Founders Club to show me the balcony where the proposal would take place, it was amazing! She also told me that Mickey Mouse himself would be part of the moment, which thrilled me even more!

I'd also arranged to have a mickey diamante ring (pic later in the report) transferred from Harringtons and Piera brought it along so I could approve it was the right one. It cost a mere 30e but was only to be used as a 'prop'. I'd always told Amy that when the time came she could pick her own engagement ring afterwards as I didnt see the point in shelling out a fortune on something I couldn't guarantee she'd like!

I went back to the room with a massive smirk on my face but obviously managed to hide my glee as Amy brought my story about how the credit card problem was fine, but they'd lost our booking for dinner, hence why I'd been gone for 30 minutes sorting it all out! ;)

Reception in Cafe Fantasia
We arrived in Cafe Fantasia and were escorted by a Cast Member to a little area to the right of the bar which they'd privatized for us. They brought over some nibbles and took our drinks orders, I had a 'Saxophone' and Amy had a 'French 77'

a>

Whilst we were in there about 4 or 5 different members of staff came in to introduce themselves, the service was impeccable! We were then escorted over to...

Dinner in the California Grill

This was where the evening really came into its own. They seated us at a table overlooking the castle and our butler came over to explain how the evening would progress. We'd have SEVEN courses, each coming out at about 20 minute intervals. They'd decorated the table and provided us with personalised menus with the date and our names. I'd arranged for Amy's menu to be changed to rule out any meat or fish and they delivered in fine style!

a>

For us it was the perfect level of 'posh'. The food, service, cutlery, etc was all of the highest standard but not at all snooty. Our Butler was amazing and had a really good laugh with us, often calling Amy "princess" and putting us at ease.

The wine flowed throughout the evening as the courses came out, infact we counted that we'd had five large glasses each during the meal (!). The food was extraordinary, who'd even have thought of putting white chocolate around fish pate(?!?) but it was out of this world! One of Amy's came as follows;

Dreams from the Founders Club

The evening was going like clockwork, I knew Dreams started at 10pm and at 9.50pm, after our sixth course, we were escorted up to the Founders Club. Amy just assumed we'd be watching it from a window so was blown away when we were ushered into the room, with champagne and dessert waiting on the table and the balcony doors open! Excuse the poor-quality pic.

So, we stood on the balcony, sipping our champagne when Dreams began. Around two minutes in, Amy had a BIG tap on her shoulder, and turned round to see Mickey stood right there (about an inch behind us), and with a Cast Member stood to the side holding a bouquet of white roses, and a cushion with the ring box!

At that moment she was massively emotional with a mix of confusion, elation and excitement. Mickey gestured for me to take the ring and Amy to take the flowers. We had a quick picture before they left us alone again. By this time Amy had twigged what was going on so, with flowers in her hand, and the ring in mine, I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me!

It was honestly the most perfect moment I could have ever wished for, the build-up had been magnificently extravagant but the actual proposal itself was a very personal intimate moment. Just the two of us on the balcony, having had the goods handed over by Mickey (the third meet of the day!) himself, with thousands of people below us on Main Street and the most spectacular show ever shining onto the castle, it was truly amazing!

Once Dreams had finished we sat down and finished our champagne whilst having dessert and Amy rang her parents. We then went back down to Cafe Fantasia and were greeted by masses of congratulations from the CMs and other guests in the bar. We had a couple more drinks before retiring back to the room about 12.30am, by which point I was exhausted in every sense imaginable! All that planning and everything had come off in spectacular fashion!

However, the CMs had another trick up their sleeve and, unknown to me, had decorated our room with rose petals and towel-swans, a lovely touch to finish things off!

If anyone is thinking of doing the 'Dream To Live' evening I couldn't recommend it highly enough; for the 398e we got two champagne cocktails, a seven course meal, 12 glasses of wine, 2 ciders, 2 glasses of champagne, amazing service, and the most memorable evening of our lives!

Tuesday 28th

Despite the excitement of the night before, we still managed to get up for 6.30am (still a little bit drunk) and had breakfast before getting into the park at 9.30 for EMH. We went straight to the Princess Pavilion where the CM informed us they'd be opening at 10am (instead of 10.30) and by 10.30 we had an audience with Rapunzel. We told her we'd got engaged and she actually shrieked with delight and posed for a photo with her holding Amy's ring hand!

To be honest the rest of the day is a bit of a blur, I can only really piece it all together with the photos we took! We watched the parades, had a few beers throughout the day, rode some more rides and met some more characters. In the evening we were booked in for Buffalo Bills so thought we'd make (another) boozy night of it! We had drinks in Cafe Fantasia, King Ludwicks and Billy Bobs before heading into BBWWS arena. The show was great but I could have done with a few more glasses of free beer, four wasn't really enough! Afterwards we had a swift half in the Sports Bar before walking back to the hotel.

Wednesday 29th

Our last day! We got into the park for EMH at 8am and rode all the available rides before heading back for breakfast. More gluttony which ensured we didnt need to eat until we left! We watched a couple of the parades, met Goofy bonbons and used our fastpasses to ride Big Thunder Mountain before checking out from the hotel.

As we were know well-known in the Castle Club, we decided to be cheeky and ask if we could have a nosey at the Sleeping Beauty suite as we were thinking of "booking it for our honeymoon"...and they agreed to show us round! Now obviously we don't have the means to pay £7,000 PER NIGHT to hire the suite but I'm glad we got to have a look; it was AMAZING! Proper lottery-winning stuff!

We'd written some notes to Piera and the staff at Cafe Fantasia/California Grill and handed them to the concierge before we left. Everything had gone according to plan and so I decided to reward myself with the 130e Disney Parks Christmas Train Set! If anyone has seen it whilst they were at the resort they'll know how fantastic it is....and how HUGE the box is. Luckily we weren't flying back!

We got back to Kings Cross, had a swift cider, then got on the train back to York. I don't know if they were just been generous in First Class or needed to get rid of the stock but they filled us with (more cider) and all the sandwiches and buns we could eat!

2.5 hours later we were back home from the trip of a lifetime...and engaged!

So thanks again to everyone for all their help and advice, it's massively appreciated and helped to make my proposal the magnificent occasion it was! I'm going to let Amy read through this whole thread and no doubt she'll pop up at some point to express her gratitude too! If anyone has any questions about any part of the trip feel free to ask, I'm more than happy to talk some more about the whole experience!

We've now got the job of planning the wedding (looking at Summer 2016) but have already discovered a pitfall of telling folk our news; they ask about the proposal but it was that elaborate that it takes about an hour to explain to serve it justice!! :)

Thanks again everyone! :thumbsup2
