Day 0 -1-Disney Magic by Land and By Sea August 16/17th - heading to Barcelona and Ship baoding day.
The first part of the trip was a overnight Transatlantic flight to Barcelona via Munich Germany. My first flight was vai Air Canada I had let Disney book my flights for me as I didn't find much difference in air fare between what they offered and any other offers. Also a about a week before the cruise I got a call about them upgrading my sate room onboard from a port hole room to a verandah room. My first flight was completely full and had come from another airport first and there were still people onboard and the overhead bins were full so I had to keep both my carry on bags at my featt instead of just one. During the flight I got a few pictures of the sun rising and coming into Munich.
After landing I had to make my way through customs luckily my bags had been checked all the way through sdo I only had my carry on bags to deal with. After finding customs I had to go back through security I saw a second line being opened for it and went over to it and got yelled at in German and then they nicely said in English to wait a minute until they were ready as they realised I didn't speak it. I then made my way back to the gate are. My flight to Barcelona was actually going to be at the gate next to the plane I had just gotten off. I went over to the desk with my print at home tickets just to confirm if they would be able to read the, the attendant there was sure if they could or not so he printed me anew boarding pass there. On the flight I had what I consider to be one of the best in flight meals I've ever had a black forest ham sandwich and it was free on a short flight (all airlines in Canada charge for food onboard.)
After I arrived in Barcelona I collected my bag and head out to the arrivals area and went up to a
DCL rep there as I had pre booked my trasport with them. When I got there they told me they had just dismissed my driver because I was late but were able to call him back. There were some earlier issues with the plane coming into Munich airport so my flight to Barcelona was delayed about 20 minutes or so. Once he came back he put my bags in the trunk and drove me to my hotel that I had booked through Disney,
the Barceló Atenea Mar. After I had checked in I had a bit of anap before heading out to dinner with a group from another message board.
The next morning before heading to breakfast I took some pictures of the hotel room excuse the mess the room is in.
They had the same sort of thing for the key cards that the Dream and Fantasy now have.
you can see a bit of a selfie in the mirror in the bathroom.
After Breakfast my checked bags were collected by bell services and then I head to wait in the lobby for the bus to the terminal. Well I was waiting me and another couple decided to split a cab to the ship rather then wait to get on the bus. we checked with the DCL rep if it was ok to do it and they said there was no problem. Once we arrived we paid the driver and then headed into the terminal I saw them a couple times during the cruise oddly we never exchanged names though.
they had a few Disney banners hanging in the checkin area, well I was checking in the line for international cruisers was so long they took a bunch of us into the
castaway club line which was empty beside us. They checked me in and I had to surrender my passport to them I ended up getting it back part way through cruse as over half the ship was international travelers and about half of those were Canadians and due to our special relationship with the US they got in touch with shoreside in Florida to check with customs if it was ok if they gave back all the Canadians passports. Afterr ithath crusie they stopped holding onto pasports for international travelers.
After checking in I made my way into the rest of the terminal to wait for my boarding number to be called and got picture with this guy.
sorry I was kind of half asleep at that point still jet lag and all that stuff.
Then my boarding number was called and I got my first view of the Disney Magic.
Boarding for this cruise was down on the dock we had to wait every now and then well carts of luggage and the supplies were brought over before we could board. Once on Board we were taken up by elevator to deck 9 where they announced us and had a camera crew putting us up on the big screen as we came on board unfortunately it was drizzling a little bit so not many pol stuck around. I got some pictures of them loading supplies it was pretty much non stop until we departed the next day.
I also took a picture of the flags on the flagpole on the top deck. It was something I did in every port I visited to show off the different flags of the countries we visited.
This one had the flag of DCL (the red one to the left), the flag of spain in the middle and the flag for the catalan region that Barcalona is in. By this point my room was ready so I headed to drop my things in it before finding somewhere for lunch. I took a fee pictures of my room 6592 I ended up writing it down on things a number of times to the point where I ca almost still remember it.
This was the castaway club gift a passport wallet I still have it and keep my passports in it.
Im the next picture you can see the gangway and part of the pier.
The tankers at the bottom are actually topping up the water tanks on the ship they did this at every port as the magic was only designed to hold enough for a 3 day cruise after that they have to make water from sea water using heat from the engines.
They had a map of the voyage in the lby in front of the main theatre area.
