I think it's really cool that Disney has come up with new itineraries, that everyone seems real happy with.... But... I feel like I am the only one in the world recently who isn't interested at all in ever going to Alaska. I know this has been a very popular cruise destination for decades really. I don't really get it... It's cold! Please, I mean no offense to ANYONE, it is awesome if it is somewhere you would like to go. I just feel like I am taking crazy pills! (I am but thats not the point):upsidedow

I agree.:thumbsup2 I'm not really interested in an Alaskan cruise and I hope 3.0 is not going to Alaska. :duck:

I think it's great that they offer so many different places to go- and Alaska is just one of them.

They actually do have summer in Alaska. And, while it is not "Africa Hot" the average summer daytime highs run around 65 (not bikini weather for sure, but pleasant) and they get 18 hours of sunlight in the summer months! :cool2:

Personally I am interested in Alaska- in the summer, as they are doing.
I agree, it's not for everyone, but I sure would love to see the beauty of the mountains & fjords. The little western towns, eh- not so much. But the postcards views look great to me.
(Staying on the Wonder in port is fun too! :woohoo:)

I also hope PCC 3.0 is not Alaska, but I do hope to get there "someday."

A big no thanks from me too. I hate cold and have no desire to see Alaska, give me palm trees.:goodvibes

I did an Alaskan cruise over 20 years ago and it was definitely an awesome experience. Seeing killer and minke whales out of the window while eating dinner, glaciers calving and taking a helicopter tour that landed and allowed us to walk on 2 glaciers were some of the highlights. However, with the outrageous increase in port charges that the Alaskans have imposed since then I do not see myself going back.

Oh I would LOVE to go to Alaska!! I love cold weather, and I would love to go dog sledding! Plus, it's so beautiful! But don't worry, that's why there are different itineraries for different people. Thanks for the choices Disney!

Looking back at PCC 1.0, I spent most of my time with other DISers. Yeah we wouldn't be able to sit the beach and sip fruity cocktails, but we could whale watch or trek a glacier (with the proper hot beverage {read: Viking Coffee})

You are not alone. I'm a palm tree and sand type of girl. :goodvibes You couldnt pay me enough to go to Alaska.
I'm just hoping the Dream will do 7 night cruises in summer of 2011.

It's not like they are taking any choices away from you. There will be four ships eventually and you will be able to choose between many different ports. I think it's a great destination having been there twice already.

I've always wanted to take an Alaskan cruise. I don't like cold either but it is supposed to be very pretty. I also have no interest in going to Mexico at all. However, I won't be going anywhere because it is too expensive. And with all the changes going on now, I won't be able to tear myself away from DLR for the next few years. :)

I think an Alaskan cruise would be really cool, but not something I would really consider doing until I've seen other parts of the world I'm more interested in; France, Italy, Greece, India, China, Japan, Australia, etc.

Viking Coffee- I'm in! ;)

This is a cruise I might get my DH to go on. He is officially Grumpy about Disney, but brochures about Alaskan Cruises have been arriving at the house for the last couple of years...and I haven't ordered them. :confused3 So I think this might be a good thing for us. Win/win.

I have to agree with you - I have no desire to go to Alaska - ever. I'm sure it's beautiful and interesting, but, not for me.

We just got back from an Alaska cruise a week ago. It was always some place I wanted to go but DW really had no interest. The prerequisite was a ship with a Casino...lol.

I hate to speak for my DW but I can only say that it was incredible and beyond our wildest dreams. We enjoyed it so much we can't wait to go again....we'd even like to drive and see the interior. The only other cruising I have done is on Disney. While I like the Disney ship better.....IMHO Alaska destroys any itinerary out of Port Canaveral. All I would say is give it a chance.

Chris

I'm all over this one. I've never cruised but have wanted to do a Disney Cruise. Both my DH and I would love to see Alaska. So when they announced DCL to Alaska, I put my request into DU. We'll be celebrating our 15 th wedding anniversary. I can't wait and hope that it's finacially do-able.

I felt this way too about Alaska, prior to actually going on a 14 day cruise there. I had no desire to see it, thought it was way too cold and remote and my idea of a cruise was sitting around the pool sipping frosty adult beverages.

Well, I am now trying to figure out a way to get back to Alaska for a longer visit. It is so unbelievably beautiful! It wasn't that cold (we went at the end of May, so it was chilly and there was still snow) and we just wore layers that we could take off or put on as needed. I certainly didn't feel any colder in Alaska than I have at home at times.

The wildlife was amazing, the beautiful mountains, lakes, fjords and waterfalls were beyond description. I have pictures at my webshots album about halfway down the page - Celebrity Mercury April/May and then the ports we visited. http://community.webshots.com/user/iggipolka?vhost=community

We are planning on taking the Disney cruise to Alaska in 2011. In fact, we're postponing our planned trip to the Carribean in March to go to Alaska in 2011! That's how mch I want to go back o Alaska.

Oh I completely agree and I am glad that is available for those that want to go. Don't get me wrong. I just wondered if I was the only one out there that wasn't interested in it. Since it sounded like everyone was interested. Not that it shouldn't be available. Different strokes for diff folkds. I know that no one is forcing me to go. Just a conversation peice. ;)

Agreed! :thumbsup2

It sounds really really nice - but when we're going on vacation, I want to "go where it's warm" (Jimmy Buffett).

I was very excited when they announced the Alaska cruise, but while I was looking at the itinerary I think I changed my mind. I think I would prefer the 7 day one way cruises where you can then go on the train tour. I feel like if I go all that way I really want to experience it. I just can't see going all that way and not getting to experience Denali. Of course, I am sort of a nature freak.:rotfl:
