Here we go again!

Even though we planned to hit up DL this year, it looks like we are headed to WDW for halloween! :dance3:

So many factors went into making that decision, but I am promised that we will hit up DL for 2011. Maybe then I'll find some kind soul who's home resort is GCV and wants to rent their points 11 months out so we can get everything on time. :lmao:

Now for the cast!

Me (30) and DH (33):

It occured to me that I should probably put something here.. :D

Growing up, my family was one that never took vacations. Not real ones, anyway. Vacations for the summer were times that we'd drive down to Alabama in a wagon to see my grandmother and the rest of my dads family. We'd stay in her shack.. (yes shack) for a night, since a hotel would offend her and we'd drive back home. Every. Single. Summer. We didn't get to see anything except for the scenery outside. Although I have to say, I am a pro at eating in the car by now! :D

My husband had been a little bit different. He had been to DL once when he was very little, and before his parents split for good.. he did take road trips to other states and places, where he had fun. That's where his love of driving comes in from.

Our first real vacation was our honeymoon. One week on a mexican cruise! We were hooked on this vacation business. It was a good time! But not long after, number 1 made his appearance (on my birthday no less!) so we had to set our cruise days aside. When he was one and half, we bit the bullet and took our first trip to WDW.. and we all loved it!

We went back when our daughter was one and half, which was also the perfect time for her to go!

We decided to hit disney again this year. I am trying to get into nursing school, my son next year will be in kindergarden!, and my daughter will start pre school. Pretty soon, we are all going to be so very busy.. time is so precious that we decided to push some things back this year to enjoy time together as a family. It may seem trite to some people who are not disney lovers, but disney really helps us do that and pull the magic together.

Our two little spooky monsters.

Aka. "the boy"
This past year he's really been getting into movies. His favorites are Bolt, Monsters Inc, Cars, and Toy Story. Lately, it's been all about toy story!
Luckily it comes out on our birthday this year, so it will be a nice pre-disney treat. He is also a BIG fan of roller coasters just like mom. Last Oct was the first year he was able to ride since he was just "40 inches!

A.k.a "The girl".
She is our little love bug. She just turned 2 this April, so she's not a big fan of movies yet. However, she does LOVE princess cinderella, Aurora, and Buzz Light year. Sleeping beauty is a big hit here. Often when she's upset because her brother took a toy away, or just generally being two.. she stops once she hears "once upon a dream". She loves to try to sing a long and mimic the dancing. It's very sweet <3

Together, last year during our trip. At Ohana with Lilo.

We will be booking our resort in the next few days. It's a choice between the Poly and WL. :D Will keep this thread updated as we go along!

Part 1:
Resort is chosen!
So, this is love..
The more the merrier?
I would drive 2000 miles and I would drive 2000 more

Part Duex:
Actual Planning time
Where is that darn pixie with her dust? :)
Hey, who's drivin this thing?

Okay. I have one more day before I can book our resort! Stupid me decided to transfer money into another account for this trip.

While I am waiting rather impatiently, I thought it might be good to outline why we choose WDW again instead of DL this year.

- Transportation.

It is easier for us to get to FL. We can drive or fly. :scared1: Either one has its pros and cons, but both are much easier from Chicago to FL, rather than Chicago to CA.

DH and I hate to fly. Although for someone who hates it, I've actually flown a lot. The trip to Orlando is two hours, the trip to LA/San diego is 4.
2 hours early in the morning /over night tends to go pretty quick. 4 hours is a bit more of a stretch.

For driving (which is what we are almost set on doing), it's 22 hours straight through to FL. For those of you that have never driven and might use mapquest for them to tell you that it's 17 hours... lies! This doesn't account for stopping to potty, to eat, various road construction, cranky children, sugar overloads..etc.

DH can add another vacation day, and we can either "stop" over night to break up the drive.. or do what we did last time. Push through like crazy people, stay in a non disney hotel over night, so we are "refreshed" for disney in the morning.

Driving to CA is 36 hours. So, really with all of the above.. you figure about 40 with stops, but straight through. So, for car travel you figure 3 days x2 = 6 days.
DH only gets 2 weeks vacation, and he isn't allowed to take them all at once.

The other to add, is we have a hybrid. Generally it is less than 200 round trip to drive to FL.

So there is that.

FOOoooooooooDDDD!

The Disney Dining really makes sense at WDW. There are so many more options there, as far as food goes.

The only thing we will be missing (okay, I will be missing). Is the tigger tails that you can only get in DL.

Resorts. Resorts. Resorts!

There is an awesome resort at DL, that you can book with DVC. However, the people with that DVC home resort can book it 11 months in advance. Everyone else gets to wait 7. There aren't a lot of villas there, so they can all go pretty quick. Even though we are 6 months out, they were s/o of our date.
I had the great idea of upgrading the room for a day.. then downgrading it for the rest of our stay.. but DH was not a fan of that.

I know from what a lot of people have said this should hardly matter as you don't spend as nearly as much time in your room at DL. But it mattered to us. We want to do it for the whole trip, and it's better for us (or makes more sense anyway) to try to get it done in one shot.

WDW has so many options as far as disney resorts go. This time, we wanted to stay on the monorail. I've always dreamed of staying at the monorail resorts, but with rack rates, i thought it was impossible for us. YAY for the disboards!

Trip companions?

My MIL might come with us. I am not sure if this a pro or con.. :rotfl: She LOVES the heat, loves flordia. She also loves her grand kids and has said she has no problem going. This would be good for her to hang out with the kids while we did some adult disney.

I tried to rope my family into coming to disney, but they are not disney people. Believe me you guys, I've tried and tried. They think we are nuts for going "again" since we just got back from last Oct.

So that is basically the gist of it. We ARE going to plan for DL next year. We are going no matter what. The kids will be a bit older by then we can take the train if we need to (44 hrs), just right now.. they'd go a bit stir crazy.

I am also going to update our trip report with older pictures of our previous trips. Like the first picture above with the halloween mickey is last years Mickey. I'll replace them with the new ones as soon as we get back!

And we're off!

I was able to book us yesterday for our resort at the......

Polynesianlogoinspiration.jpg

:stitch2:

YAY! I've always wanted to stay here ever since I first laid eyes on this resort. We always thought it was going to be out of reach for us the first time around. We didn't know about the disboards then! :D

Thanks to pin, "off season", we can do this. It is going to be a bit of a stretch, but we've totally got this. ;)

I really do love WL, and when we go back to WDW.. (remember DL next year!), we'll stay there. With how our kids are however, being very 2 and spirited 3 year old.. it makes sense to stay on the monorail.

We're staying from 10/30-11/5. :cloud9:

Next order of business will be to order tickets for MNSSHP.. but first things first. I've got to get the extra scratch in order first!

Ever since we've been dreaming of this trip, I've been hitting this board like a diabetic at a ho ho convention. Unapologetically taking in all things disney to try to get my pre-fix, since we are 5 months, 3 weeks away from our desired destination!

If you're my mother, you'd be scratching your head and asking me.. "what does one do for hours at a time on the disboard before a trip?" I uh, like to tell you. But the answer is simply that this board has a time-wrap thing that sucks the concept of father time away. Hours pass, and you are just blessed with more disney knowledge. Or.. something. I feel like I know more about Mickey, so it must be true! :rotfl:

Meanwhile, I am trying to plan my ADRs since we are just enough time out. . To actually, you know, be organized for once. Instead of planning disney 45 days out like I did the last two times.. and eating at places that take down disney credits like those guys on COPS..

Truth is though, we aren't much planning people, so I am a bit lost here. I am the mother of two kids who has learned if anything, to be flexible and fly by the seat of our pants. While I am sure that people are blessed with perfect angels who sit through the long wait times with nary a complaint, happily sit at any dinner table for hours at a time without getting board or agitated.. Let's just say. I don't have those kids. I must have missed to check that box when I was hooked up the hospital to deliver. Ah well. You get what you get. At least that's what I tell myself to keep my sanity.

I have a way of having fail follow me, and if you subscribe, I am sure you'll see it. I've booked some of our ADRs, and I am hoping that they are all good decisions so far.

We booked Cinderella's Royal Table for the first morning we're in MK. I've got to say. I've got a bit of nervousness reading that the food leaves something to be desired. And, it's expensive. I am not entirely certain I want to blow 2 dining credits on breakfast for something that is just so-so. Which means paying cold hard cash in the sum of 130+ dollars for .. breakfast. eeeeeeouuuuccchiie!
Our two year old is really starting to get into Cinderella and Aurora, so that might be worth it.. And I really want to go inside the castle to eat.

Dinner reservations start at Ohana, and Narcooose. I haven't yet told my husband about their dress code... me thinks he's not going to likely that what so ever. I am struggling for other suggestions at the moment. :/

We also booked for Le Cellier for the 1st. But again, after reading some reviews... I am not sure this is a super great idea. Then again, it's in epcot which means food and wine. So there are delicious things right outside to cleanse our palet if it's really gross.

All we really want is to eat good food at a good value on the dining plan. It's possible. I've seen the food porn! Now to achieve it.. :D

This is the kind of reaction we got when I updated our family via facebook that we were going to Disney. Again.

"But but... you were JUST there!"

I scratched my head looking at my mothers comment, with a tilted head. Just? I uncurled my fingers, counting on them like I had done since first grade. Mh. Seven months. Does seven months qualify as just? It seems like it was such a long time ago, but there are memories that are still crystal clear for me.

Riding on the train with my kids to adventure land on the hot days. Holding hands with my son as we walked as quickly as we could to Big Thunder mountain, giggling. Were we got to ride again and again with zero wait time. Hitting up Pirates several times as a family that has become our favorite ride ever. After walking through the park at a hot day, finally finding the all mighty Dole Whip* stand. My treat to my loving husband, who had a look of pure delight at first lick. Shopping with my DD in DTD with her in the carrier, and the boys playing at the quite pool that was located right outside our window at the SSR.

Just seven months?

It's hard to explain the magic that is Disney to people who've never been to Disney. The magic that goes all the way down to your toes and fills up with warm happy thoughts. The smiles of children who believe that here all things are possible. The kind of magic that is infectious and always leaves you wanting for more.

I keep trying to explain anyway, why we want to go back as often as we can. :D To my mom, it is an expensive dream filled with things just for kids. For my sister, she feels that it lacks the luxury that she wants on vacation. I know they are wrong on both accounts, and I could prove it to them.. If I could just get them to come to start with. Maybe one day I'll be starting a girls only PTR report for a bounce back trip!

But for now, we are planning our Oct trip in bliss. :cloud9:

Our last trip was had was full of ups and downs. With moments of great triumph, and moments of great fail. This was mostly do to our lack of fore site on how to best navigate Disney with a full blown toddler in tow in a high heat. Ah lessons!

I hope to take those with me, and pick up some more tips so this trip can be all smooth sailing this time. <3

Not sure if anyone is reading this, but I can't stop myself from posting anyway! Helps me feel closer to Disney, which is needed right now. It's my happy place. :wizard:

Life got crazy for a few weeks. Been studying for my state boards, and took them this past friday. Got stuck in an elevator that same night for about 5 minutes. It was terrifying, and needless to say, I will be skipping the TOT! :scared:
A friend of mine, and my good friends BFF passed away Saturday from complications from a brain tumor. We kind of knew it was coming, but when it happens its still pretty unexpected. Then I ended up in urgent care yesterday due to a massive head ache that has been on going for about a month. I see my doctor in a few hours for a blood draw, and for him to send me to get an MRI. Fun times. Can't tell my good friend what is going on with me, because I don't want to freak her out given the circumstances.

but now that the weekend is behind us, and hopefully most of the bad with it, back to planning.

My MIL and SIL said that they will come with us. :yay: or wait.. is that ? lol. I do know that they do not want to stay in the same room thankfully, so that is something less to worry about. But we do need to get the ball rolling soon..

I think we should be able to use the pin that we have for them, but I have no idea what resort they want to stay at.. or what their budget looks like. I need to have my DH email my MIL again, and see if my SIL;s husband is able to come.

I do know that they are almost positively going to be going down on the train. MIL has talked about taking our oldest with them, then meeting us in Orlando. It might be fun for him to take a short trip with his grandma. An adventure! I am not too sure how I feel about it just yet.

It wouldn't be a bad idea for us all to take the train.. I am just not sure how my DD would do. DH is pretty set on driving down.

I do like the idea of having our own car. Leaving when we want to, stopping were we want to. This time we'd break up the driving around every four hours except in times of sleep. Last time we each did around 11 hours straight driving, and I can tell you.... that was craziness. We are also trying to feel out if we are going to stop this time over night or drive straight through and get there early.

My dad always drove straight through road trips since we were children, so it's hard to deprogram myself to take some time! It does have advantages though. It gets us there one day early, in time to "rest" for disney. We did this last time and it worked out great. The first time we went, we came straight off of our trip.. checked in to our hotel, tried to high tail it to Epcot for dinner.. and we were flat out exhausted. With better planning, it would be easier to avoid this, and we would be coming off a 10 hour trip instead of a 22 hour trip.. so who knows. I am sure we'll go back and forth between the two a few times, maybe even change our plans all together :lmao:

I know I am quite a bit late to the party but I'm here!!! Don't give up on the PTR! I had the same issues w/ not having followers but I just kept plugging along and then people started coming! Plus, even if nobody was reading, it helped me with my planning! I love the start and now I want to hear more!!!

Aw, you are too sweet <3

Thanks so much for the encouragement! :goodvibes

I took a break from the boards for a bit. Got a little Disney obsessed, wasn't sure if anyone was listening, and was in the middle of packing for a trip 5 months out.
167s2a8.jpg

:upsidedow . Though mabbe it was time for a little break. :)

So last we left off...

MIL said she would come with us with possibly my SIL in tow. Well, my SIL in the past few months got married out of nowhere :wizard:, and isn't sure her hubby who works overseas will be able to go. Therein, she's not sure she wants to go. MIL is ok on going without her, but she won't commit to anything. I tried to have my husband kinda gently nudge her in one direction or another but its not doing any good.

Does it make me a bad person that I think oh man, this is so going to mess with our ADRs. ?:rotfl:

We've had to kind of work on the idea that she isn't going to be there, otherwise trying to plan around her without any confirmation would drive me more quickly to the crazy bin. Not that I need much encouragement with two toddlers.. but, you know...

As it stands right now, we are planning on driving straight through to Orlando with me on the day shift, and my husband on the night shift. We'll probably do what we did last time after driving 24 hours straight and pick a hotel to stay at the 29th (hey, maybe a value at 40 percent!) and just "relax". No pressure to go to the parks or losing the value, taking that time to bum around and decompress.

Or maybe I'll find a reeaaaaaaalllllllyyyyyy good deal on air fair and decide to fly. 2 hours is doable for people that hate planes, right? ... right? :)

Hey, someone else from Chicago! :cheer2: You arrive the day after I leave, though :lmao:

Southwest has some decent fares right now, actually, if you're okay with flying out of Midway. My fare is going to be about $232 round trip, which isn't bad at all. I hope you guys have an awesome time! :)

What timing! I was just in the middle of reading your thread. :yay:

It's so incredibly cool you are having a halloween trip for you. Can't wait to see your report! :3dglasses

Wow, that is a really great deal! Is that inclusive of tax? We've got 2 adults 1 kid seats so that'd still be around 690. Still not bad and cheaper than the train.. (no joke!).

:lmao: How funny :) That's the wonder of the Dis, though :teeth:

I can't wait to see your report, either! :yay: I honestly just can't wait to go :yay: :yay: I'm so excited. I haven't been in two years and I've never had this kind of trip as a guest. My only real 'guest' trip was off-site and I only spent one day at the parks.

Yes, it's inclusive of tax. They also don't charge for bags, so you guys would have EIGHT bags for free, since each passenger gets two, plus the two carry-ons. I'm actually paying double for my ticket, so it'll be around $460, but if my flights aren't completely full, I can get a refund for the second seats. I'm technically a Customer of Size on Southwest, and I'm worried I'd be asked to leave if I didn't have the second ticket. It sucks, but what can you do. It's actually cheaper than one seat on JetBlue

Also, if you really want to keep an eye on Southwest's fares, download Ding. It's this tiny little program that runs in the background of your computer and makes a 'ding' noise whenever a special fare pops up for your selected airports. When I flew home from Orlando after losing my job with Disney, I got a fare for $79.

Yeah, I just looked at Southwest's fares, and their fares are $99 each way for your dates, all day on the 30th and most of the day on the 5th :) Hope that helps!

It's getting so close!!!

Oh hey, know how that goes. Wish they had tester seats like they do for harry potter world. So you could go into an office, sit.. try it out, then book for sure on way or another.

Good to know about Jet blue! For some reason it was stuck in my head that they were a cheap airline.

79 is an awesome price! I am so sorry you lost your job with Disney. :( you'll be back working for them before you know it!

Well, JetBlue CAN be cheap. It's just that they don't have direct flights to Orlando from Chicago, and then with the flights that had similar arrival/departure times to what I was looking at with Southwest, the prices went way way up. I really like Southwest, though. Because you guys have young kids, they'd let you pre-board (they have open seating, so nothing's assigned).

I'm hoping to move back down in two or three years and get a job with them then :)

Awesome! Thanks! :woohoo:

You're welcome! :goodvibes I like doing research :lmao:

Yeah, you updated! I forgot to say that your kiddos are adorable!!!! I am so jealous that you are staying at Poly! That is my total dream hotel! I just cant justify the extra money since we don't spend tons of time in the hotel. Maybe when Olivia is a bit older and is more interested in the pool and stuff like that we will (but probably only if we get lucky enough to get a 40% off PIN)! I would say don't worry about your MIL messing up your ADRs. We have shown up to a couple with an extra person and it wasn't a big deal at all. Can't wait for another update!

It is hard to pin point the exact moment when love hits you. Sometimes it's one defined moment in your life where you are aware that it's born. But most of the time, it's rather sneaky like a ninja.

That's how I would describe my love of the Poly. Ninja like.

On our first trip, we would pass by it while we were on the monorail coming back from the parks. Soaking in the sites of the large palm trees and hawaiian theme as we rushed passed. Watching the sites disappear with longing, that someday that might be our resort. I made my husband promise me as boarded the bus that night to COB with our then 1 and half year old in our lap, that the next time we returned we would be at the Poly.

The following trip however, we discovered the beauty of DVC. For almost half of the price we paid for our first trip, we could stay at a beautiful deluxe resort. And it was beautiful. It was an upgrade over where we had stayed before, were the staff treated us like we were home. But still, my heart ached to go to the Poly.

On advice from Dis, we booked breakfast reservations for Kona. We got to take in the atmosphere, walk around the grounds to get a better feel for it. Unfortunately our reservations were lost, however Ohana had an opening. It was one of the highlights of our trip, which also won a space with me.

Yet again, when we would pass on the monorail, we'd watch all the people get off at the Poly. We would admire them with how lucky they were, and wish we had more money so we could stay there instead.

But why? Why would a resort be so important when the parks are the main focus?

Hawaii is the one place I've always wanted to go, but never had the opportunity or willing partner. The closest I had been was living in San Diego for a few years, but there was still a big ocean between me and paradise.
Maybe that's why when I see the poly, my heart strings pull into different directions. It's not there, but its kind of close.

That's why the third trip, I decided to avoid temptation and try to book for DisneyLand instead. However the DVC we wanted to stay at was all booked up, even though we were 6 months out from our dates. We were a bit late to the party. With the non DVC hotel, the air fair, the length of time we needed to be gone, the F&W going on in FL, we decided just to go back to the world again.

Then, thanks to the lovely people on this board we learned about pins. Wonderful, awesome pins. I tried and tried everything to get one. Followed all the rules down to a science, but everyday I still came up empty. I employed my husbands help, and like the sun coming out through the rain clouds, there it was.

This was the only way we'd ever be able to afford going to the Poly, and here it was. Of course, we also had our pick of WL. Which was significantly cheaper, and also has awesome lay out. I've always wanted to stay there too.. I guess my love of resorts tends to be more poly amorous.. :-)rotfl: see what I did there?) But when it came down to price, and it came down to being on the monorail. Not wishing when we saw people get off that it would be our stop, the decision was easy to make.

Now let's hope it all goes well, and our room is awesome!

Aw thank you! So is Olivia! Such a beautiful name for a beautiful princess. :)

oh totally. The only way we are going is with a pin! If it wasnt for the people on this board, it would not have been possible. Don't give up hope for the pin!!! If all else fails, enlist other family members to help out. That seems to be one of the magick touches. :rotfl:

Was so bummed when I saw the 40 percent off 40 percent deal this August, but they werent for our dates.

Maybe we'll all get lucky and something like that will happen again! :wizard:

My best friend and I are planning a trip for next year (late Oct-early Nov) and I kind of want to have us stay at the Poly, but I have a feeling we'll wind up at Pop :lmao: But you never know, I could (FINALLY) get a pin! :rolleyes1

My favorite resort is probably the Boardwalk, actually. I just love it. It's so pretty to me :lovestruc
