Chicago Cubs fans - Rebuilding Year 2023

I think he looks good in Black and Orange.

Rizzo, Baez, and Bryant all homered in their debut for their new teams, a record.

I feel sorry for Javy having to play for the Mets, the losing team in MLB right now.

Baseball (like so many things) has changed with the modern day financial model and cycles. I recall reading an opinion article on this 5-6 years ago, but now am experiencing it with these moves.

The summary was that the fans and players are victims together, given that the teams we commit to are so dispassionately managed.

Supporting the players we care about wherever they go is our best recourse.

YOU BETCHA !!!!!!!!

The Curse of the Bambino was a superstitious sports curse in Major League Baseball (MLB) derived from the 86-year championship drought of the Boston Red Sox from 1918 to 2004. The superstition was named after Babe Ruth, colloquially known as "The Bambino", who played for the Red Sox until he was sold to the New York Yankees in 1920.[1] While some fans took the curse seriously, most used the expression in a tongue-in-cheek manner.[2]

Prior to the drought, the Red Sox had been one of the most successful professional baseball franchises. They won five of the first fifteen World Series titles, including the first in 1903, more than any other MLB team at the time.[3] During this period, Ruth was a core contributor to the Red Sox's three championships in 1915, 1916, and 1918. Following the sale of Ruth, however, the once lackluster Yankees became one of the most dominant professional sports franchises in North America and set the record for World Series titles by more than twice the amount of any other MLB team.[4] The curse became a focal point of the Yankees–Red Sox rivalry over the years.

Yes, I think both of them will be gone. I follow Taylor McGregor on Twitter and she posted this interview with Willy yesterday. It made me really sad. I think that this will be the last year that I have season tickets. The Ricketts have gutted the team and have jacked up prices so much that no one can really afford it. I am only getting about 50% face value on Stubhub for the tickets I sell on there because that's all the the tickets are worth.

Here is a chart of the cost of a an average baseball game for a family of four. The Cubs are the second most expensive ballpark and they are getting rid of all their expensive talent. It's disgusting. Oh, and if I could only pay $56.83 per ticket, I would be doing the happy dance.

After 5 years of losing money on my season tickets, my partners and I have decided to not renew. I have been a season ticket holder since 1988, most of my adult life. It was a very hard decision since I actually enjoyed watching our team of no-name scrappy young players this year.

But, between ...
  1. Last year's gutting of the team
  2. The ridiculous price for tickets, the abysmal market for them on Stubhub where I took a 50% loss on most games
  3. The Ricketts prioritizing the profit of the Wrigley Field Complex (multiple high priced "clubs" inside the ballpark, hotel, restaurants, the new 22,350 foot DraftKings Sportsbook) over the team and regular fans
  4. The "squeaky wheel gets the perks" methodology of handing out perks like delivering the ball to the mound, getting on the field for a game, having your name on the Marquee, getting free upgrades, scoring small group signing opportunities, etc. If you didn't call and beg for perks you didn't get them no matter how long you've been a STH
  5. Things that have been bothering me for a while: the awful netting that reflects the lights at night games (other ballparks have figured that out), the way that the Ricketts ruined the charm of Wrigley with the Budweiser Scoreboard that is always in my face, the way they forced out the other owners of the rooftops, ruined their view and then bought the buildings themselves and finally the last "renovation" of my section ended up with narrower seats so they could add a seat of two per row and make more money
ALL of that and more was simply too much for our group to fork over another $8500 next year. Instead, I'll buy a few games here and there. I only went to 8 games last year. I *may* end up in a smaller group, but this is the end of me being in Section 212, Row 8. I know someone who is in a group of 9 people in Field Box Outfield on the wall near the Bartman seats. That might be interesting and I can make it to 9 games.
