DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Afternoon, Gents! Hope all is well on this Monday morning. Don't about any of you guys, but it's absolutely beautiful this morning here on the Cape. Well, had a pretty good weekend. Saturday afternoon the DD went to Nana's and Grampy's, so that meant the DW and I had plenty of time to ourselves 😁. Sunday morning I spent most of the time looking at websites about writing kick butt career change cover letters as well as resumes, because of this DD got a ton of TV time. So, I decided to take the DD out to the beach for some kite flying...after five minutes she was making sandcastles. I had thought that the governor had closed all beach parking lots, but the police weren't doing anything about it so we had took advantage.

I came into work this morning and asked my boss what was happening with the now open position (I played stupid about last week). He said that they have approved the wording for the position for ad, but are waiting to see if they can get approval to fill it. So he told me to apply for the position if and when they post it, and also said that he was fairly confident they were going to keep me on as a temp past the end of my contract of 4/30. I prefer to have a job with benefits, but I almost prefer to be a temp as it'll make it easier to leave when I get a job I really want. If I stay on as a permanent employee it'll make it harder to leave, say after a year. I can explain why I'm leaving from a temp position, but leaving from a full-time permanent job after a year is a bit harder to explain away. Oh well, either way I'm going to take this opportunity as a temp to finish a medical terminology course I've been taking....hopefully that'll help me in finding a job in the medical field

Good luck.

I did 5 to 7 Km walks for about a week and half, today moved to running with some walking. Just under 5 Km is about 36 minutes, bit stiff tonight though.
Not really sure of the distance I've gone. I run/walk with DD22. My phone shows me where I've been, not how far. I'll have to ask her. She has a fitbit on that synch's with her phone.

Hey guys. I seem to be putting a few too many of these posts. It's pretty dusty in here this morning. One of my very best friends (we were Best Man at each other's weddings) sadly passed away on Sunday after contracting CV. We worked together for about 15 years, and I've known him about 25 years. He was the same age as me, and leaves a Wife and an 11 year old daughter. Again, I ask you to raise a glass to one of the truest and most genuine guys I have ever met.

Praying for peace, Dan. And, yes you are, please stop now.

Hey Gents! I had a great Monday! Nothing major happened job wise, it was just a great day. I did have a talk with yet another recruiter, and this one sounds promising, but they all do in the beginning. I'm honestly not holding my breath; I've had recruiters whig out on me and stop calling/responding to calls and emails, so really expecting nothing different with this one. If and when she pulls through for me that'll be great, but until then I'm just going to expect the same. I know I shouldn't feel that way, but after having several recruiters do that to me I've come to expect it. Anyways, onto yet another work day. Hope all goes well, everyone.

Okay... so start of week two of running.
And it totally sucked.
yes, I did it, but there sure weren't no runner's high!
5 minutes walk, then alternate 90/120 seconds running/walking for 20 minutes. Then 5 minute cool down.
I keep telling myself it'll get easier.

Oddly enough, though... I'm happy I'm doing it. I need to get off my a$$ and get some exercise.

That's awesome that you're starting to run. Keep it up.

Not surprised it's not being policed. And... really... you're social distancing, so who cares where?

The town of Falmouth had to close their beaches' parking lots because there were too many people parking there. It was starting to look like summer, so I had thought that was the same all over, but apparently I was wrong. The beach I took my DD to is fairly large, so while there may have been a good number of cars there, the people were fairly spread out.

Yeah... no regrets there if/when you leave.

I'll have no regrets on leaving, just not looking forward to explaining in an interview why I'd be leaving after a short time (that's going on the assumption that I'm hired at my current job and I find a great job after a short time of being an actual employee).

Finally getting a chance to reply to this...

I would not worry at all about short stint(s). It is quite easy/normal/acceptable to say it was a temp position with no benefits and I needed something more stable. The key is never to bad mouth the previous employer no matter how much of scum bag(s) he/they were...one would think the truth would be more valued, but prospective employers don't want the truth in regards to that.

I've had several short stints over the last couple years, but valid reasons I was able to explain to employer(s) for them.
Laid off.
Took new job and then got an amazing offer here in FL.
Got an even more amazing offer to WFH.
I'm a Linux specialist and the amazing offer was just about everything except Linux, so I was unfulfilled and struggled. Note how I made it about me vs. the idiots hired me to do one job and then had me doing everything else and they were morons for attempting that. (oops, did I type that in my outside voice?)

I did like how you put that. I'll have to remember that when and if I get the opportunity to use it. As a temp, it's easy to explain why you're leaving: I'm looking for permanent work.

Good luck.

Thanks.

Too much whiskey and the fuzzy feeling is down the front of my leg and somehow I get a wet foot. Can't quite work it out.

:rotfl2: Hate it when that happens.

Week 3-4 is usually when I would start having foot issues and would have to shut it down.

I know what you mean about being glad you're doing it, though. I've been walking a couple of miles a day with my wife and riding a stationary bike at home for about an hour so as not to hurt my foot. I can binge Netflix or Amazon shows while I ride, too. Since quarantine started, this is the most exercise I've gotten in years. I think it's helping, too. I don't have any mathematical proof, but I don't think my belly looks quite as large as it has been lately. I feel better, too.

I find it's always good policy not to burn bridges. Just in case things take a bad turn later.

Sorry to hear Dan, this is always tough probably tougher now.

Prayers for all. Too young.

Morning dads from an overcast Orlando.

Wife and I are making an offer on a new house today. She's been unhappy with current house because it doesn't have a pool and she doesn't like the heat in the summer. Also, it has no gas cooking. If you're inclined (or even care), we're looking at this: https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/5500-Edgerton-Ave_Orlando_FL_32833_M50035-94593

Definitely more room for your RV Norm.

Dan. Having lost my daughter last year, I know there are no words that can help or take away the loss, but just know my prayers go out to you and both families. If you would like to talk, give me a shout...pretty sure my mobile plan allows calls to the UK without additional cost. I'm sad and I'm sorry doesn't cover what I'm feeling for you, but for lack of better words, they will have to suffice.

Stouts? As in fermented beverages, not DisDads.

Stout... All day drinking on the Theresienwiese? Negative Sir.
Stout... Fraulein prancing about in their fittest dirndl caring steins of that golden nectar of the gods? Negative Sir.
Stout... German college program kids pretending to be peasants form Bavaria for your amusement in a hyperbolic caricature of a part of their homeland they often have NEVER BEEN TO? And STOUT you say!?!

Take thee to Rose & Crown where they will still try to half pollute your proud Stout just to make it something more palatable in the Floridian heat!

That being said... I will still contend the best pint of Guinness in the Orlando area is actually Fiddlers Green in Winter Park, which replaced the ill fated, and far more convenient to The World, Cricketers Arms for my top spot.

A stout isn't an all day drinking choice, not even in my younger days, but a lovely Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout is one of my preferred beverages. As for others, in my younger days I liked Genesee Cream Ale (It's Different), Strohs (From One Beer Lover to Another), Hamm's (The Beer Refreshing) and Busch (Head for the Mountains officially, though we always said skip the mountains and head straight for the Busch). They don't make commercials like that anymore. I am definitely not an IPA fan even though assisting hop growers is one of the many hats I wear.

You have to buy it. It has a Bills logo on the freezer.
Yeah, and if it's still there, I'll either burn it (note there's a fire pit in the back) or send it to you for the right price. :rotfl2:
Actually, my best friend in Atlanta is from Buffalo and is a bills fan, so he'd get it.

In all seriousness, I admire you...you're like I am. I'm a dolphins fan. Neither team has been very good for a while now, so it shows who the true fans are.

Very sad to hear of this Dan. Thoughts go out to you and his family, way too young.

Oh, man. That's terrible news. I'm sorry for their loss of a father and husband and sorry for your loss of a dear friend. My condolences, Dan.
He was the same age as me, and leaves a Wife and an 11 year old daughter.
That's just awful. :sad2:

Good luck, but... yeah... you've been down this road before.

Social distancing... if you can do it... then I don't see the problem.

Like others have said. Career change. Permanent vs temp. Doing a job vs doing something that you actually want to do.
Week 3-4 is usually when I would start having foot issues and would have to shut it down.
Already am a bit... we'll see how it goes.
I can binge Netflix or Amazon shows while I ride, too.
::yes::

Oh! Hope that works out.
She's been unhappy with current house because it doesn't have a pool and she doesn't like the heat in the summer. Also, it has no gas cooking.
Is the new place's pool glassed in or screened in? Kitchen looks bigger too? Nice tub for soaking. Have room for the pool table?
