DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Finished replacing all the interion door handles and lock sets in the house. For the first time since we moved in, they're all the same size, shape and type, not randomly covered in paint, and all of them even work now (that's what I get for buying a house that was previously used as a rental).

One less thing on the fix-it list and this round of renovations is finally just about done...
Until the next round starts up, of course.

That's the thing with all these predictions - like the COVID 2.2 million deaths in USA in a year - the "experts" presume no intervention is even possible.
I've heard about that particular estimate. It was one isolated study put out by the Imperial College London early last year specifically stating is was what "could" happen if America did "nothing". Since we did do at least "something", we've only had around 600K, so only like 30%. Just imagine how much lower that might have been if we didn't have such a large contingent fighting against those interventions.

we've only had around 600K,
"only"

The US averages 38,000/year automobile fatalities.
The US average fatalities due flu over the last 10 years is 36,000. The single worst year (2017-2018) had 61,000 deaths.

So... yeah. 600K is only 10 times worse than the worst flu year in the last 10 years.

Morning, Gents! Finally Friday. I'm supposed to be heading over to an office to work on a project, but somehow I don't think that's what I'll be doing. When I've been sent to an office to work on a project, I wind up getting stuck checking people in. I'll do either, but today I am kind of looking forward to not dealing with patients. Oh well....we shall see.

Ugh, the Mondayest Thursday ever. Our mail guy is out so Im covering the mail room and still have to finish all my work. And what should be a bright side is Im 16 days from visiting da'World; but saw today they are recomending people not travel to Florida . >:(

Man, sorry you had such a bad day, and to have that news about Florida. Hope things look up.

Dont over do it. :rotfl:

😆

They have one or 2 week breaks throughout the year so every 8 weeks or so they will get a week break and then 2 weeks over Xmas and Easter.
We have to train them up for our socialistic European labour laws that guarantee 30 days paid leave a year 😁

I think I'd actually prefer a schedule like that. I'd really love to be able to travel during the fall instead of the summer.

Morning All.

Watching a very different Olympic opening ceremonies. Based on this and the games I've watched since Wednesday, this should be the norm for Tokyo 2020.

Have a good one all.

I've always thought that was a great way of running a school year. Too bad our schools are constructed for summer classes.

The hot spots are Miami and Tampa, so you should be okay.
Thanks. We are flying in, Magical Express to resort and stayign onsite the whole time. So Hopefully the "bubble" will help. And all 3 of us are vaccinated.

Have a similar issue on my house, the middle part was built in the 50's and it had at least 3 major addons over the decades so not only does my door hardeware not match the doors are all different sizes. The door handle to the room my daughter is temporarly in while I remodel her room broke and locked her in a few weeks ago so I just had to remove it. Luckly the door sticks in the the summer so she just stuck a towel in the hole and uses that to pull it open. Its a solid wood door and there is not enough material left to install a new one.

Hope things look up.
Gotta get better from here

Ours are still based around kids needing to work the family farm, they only went to school during the winter when there was less farm work to do. Think that schedule only works for schools in the northeast and midwest and we just copied it. cause I worked our family ranch every morning before school and every evening after school. Then in the summer I got to work all day on different farms and ranches all over the county.

Caught that, did you...

10!!!

Your estimate is far more generous than mine.

I'm no longer tied to "The Schedule", but I too would have liked to have more of a full year method. Wouldn't have made traveling any easier, but it would have been a more consistent schedule.

Yeah, you've got a bigger headache then I do one that front.
May have to breakdown and replace the young'en's door at some point.
Another option for that would be to plug up the existing holes and install a new lock set above or below that spot; that or take the door down, spin it 180 and reinstall the hardware in on the opposite sides. Either way though you're lookin' as a good bit of mortising, chisel work and finish carpentry to pull it off.

Probally going to just cut out that section of door and splice in new wood. (Its the nice thing about solid wood doors). The door and frame are not square but the door is cut to match the weird trapezoid shape of opening. They fit together nice so you dont notice it unless you measure it and realize its almost 3/4" wider at the bottom, but the hinge side is plumb. I figure they were just shaving down the top edge as house moved over the years. So door cant be flipped and I wouldnt want to try to match it. And the wall its in is one of the old exterior walls on the house so i cant replumb the frame and even hope to get it to match. I just call it the character of an old house. Bob Villa would love it. LOL

Yup, the school year is based on having poor and/or farm kids available to work the farm in the summer and rich families heading to summer home at the shore so they didn't want to send the kids off to the school.

Morning fellas from a soggy London. The 2 weeks of 30c broke last night with thunderstorms and rain. Watched Black Widow last night, it could be up in my top 3 Marvel films. 2 and a bit hours of Scarlett in tight black leather? I'm all in.
If you subscribe to the old English phrase "no bad day can start on a bacon sandwich", today should be a good one. Not much on the agenda today.
Last week I has 35 hour long calls on various jobs I seem to be dragging into. Jobs that I'm actually running took up exactly 6 of those calls. So basically I did my day job out of hours.

We still get 6 weeks in the summer, so they still get a proper rest. And to be fair if they were home any longer than that we'd kinda run out of things to do. But I think your schools are a bit more lenient if you take your kids out. If we take ours out for more than 5 days, we could get fined £60 per child, per parent. So 2 kids, 2 parents, £240 a day. It doesn't happen often, and they sort of turn a blind eye to the day or so before vacation starts, if you are looking for a jump on the price hike that the airlines tack on.
But yeah, travelling in autumn is nice and the 2.5 weeks over Xmas lets them get use out of whatever electronic gadget Santa has delivered.
Have a good weekend Dads! Bacon-Bourbon-Cigars-Mickey Bars!
And you my friend.
I ticked off the first two, No.3 is on for tonight. No. 4 might be a stretch, but I've got some dole whip in the freezer, can that count? Apart from the whole "it doesn't rhyme" thing.
Easy. Just wait until Drew is grown up, then you and the missus can travel whenever the heck you want.
We have a countdown for this with our kids. 3964 days and counting.
you guys are still here huh?
Yep, we just kept the engine ticking over until you came back, giving it the large one with your "4 days until Disney" banner 😉 . Welcome back buddy. And that Pizza you left in the fridge really could do with chucking out.
When I've been sent to an office to work on a project, I wind up getting stuck checking people in.
You can do some of my projects if you like, I have way too many floating around. Just rock up to one of the shops, text me and I'll send you a list.

Enough tomfoolery and japery, there is a gap in the sofa with my name on it.

Well our other house we were renting was put on the market yesterday. I'm sore and tired from this week. Between working all day and then working on the house, it was a very long week. Hoping it sells quickly. Have two looking at it today thus far so that's promising.
