I have never been then. I have heard horror stories on how packed it is because of all the schools' spring breaks. Last year Disney offered a great deal for the end of May/beginning of June and a lot of people jumped on that. So, that could be a reason why he thought it was more crowded.
If you are thinking of alternative times to go, a great time to visit is in October or November. We have gone the week of Columbus Day and loved it then. Our schools have Columbus Day off and the following day so we didn't have to take the kids out of school for a whole week. Also, November during Veteran's Day is a great time. Plus the Christmas decorations start going up.
I agree with October! We went the last few days of September into October one year - no lines at all! Weather was beautiful, and we were able to swim, also. Only negative was that the parks closed earlier - but this was 12 years ago, so things could have changed!
We are going to Fort Lauderdale for "Spring Break" this year - how nuts is THAT?! Rags, what you have to realize is that not all the schools take off at the same time anymore - the Catholic schools always take Easter week off, but the public schools have various weeks they choose from - some still take the traditional Easter week, but others take February and/or April breaks. (Easter's early this year, so the public schools in our town are taking a break in April, instead)
