Just keep in mind that is simply when they are most likely. A hurricane can still happen at any time of the year - just like tornadoes are not limited to what used to be "tornado season" (or even what used to be referred to as "tornado alley").

Hence my use of the term official. But it's always good to remember it's possible for them to occur anytime of year.
