Not sure where to pot this but wondering if others feel the same way as I do. I’m obsessed with WDW. I mean OBSESSED like I’m sure most of you are and get upset if I have to wait longer than a year to return. But I ha e no desire to cruise Disney although I love to cruise and have been on 6 cruises with my last being just a couple weeks ago.
People are always surprised that I wouldn’t so that’s why I’m curious if anyone else feels the same?
There’s something about the rides, the resorts, monorails and the busses that have the music blasting based on where you are going. Can’t get any of that on the cruise. And who wants to cruise without a casino!?

Has anyone cruised Disney and thought the same?

Yes! I have cruised on DCL a couple times and other cruiselines as well. We actually had a cruise booked on DCL for the end of our October vacation but ended up cancelling and planning just to go to a beach for a few nights instead. I wasn’t sad at all. The best thing about it is Castaway Cay, specifically the adults only beach, but we can’t do that anymore since we have a child. I remember seeing how chaotic and packed it looked when we were there before as a couple. No thanks. DCL does not = Disney World. I totally get it!

.... And who wants to cruise without a casino!?

People that want to cruise without a casino ;)

on a serious note...

No waiting in lines
See all the major characters easily with minor lines if any
No hour trek to get to rooms after being at park
Awesome Movie theater within steps of your room
Live Stage shows
Hotel rooms with a view, view changes every day
Only fireworks show at sea and not having to wait on concrete with masses of people for an hour to see it
"free" ice cream
Disney music playing in all the halls and public areas
Watching movies on the big screen while in the pool or at night under the stars

and most importantly for parents - Kids clubs

I don't gamble much except a couple slot machines when in Vegas. I think when I was on an RC cruise, I walked through the casino but I don't know if I even played. I remember studying Blackjack beforehand but honestly interacting with the dealer makes me anxious. I am fine with large crowds but not intimate groups of strangers.

I'm going on my first Disney cruise this fall. First we thought it wouldn't be worth the extra cost over other cruises, but after visiting WDW for the first time (CA natives here) and seeing how Disney does vacations differently and with such level of detail and service, we changed our minds. We've now been saving about 4 years and I'm hoping it's worth it. The only way it would work was too choose a Caribbean or Bahamas itinerary. We want to do an Alaskan cruise and would probably go with Norwegian or RC. I don't associate Disney with this corner of the world.

I agree with most of what you wrote except for the awesome movie theatre. I wouldn’t call that awesome.

In relation to their home theater setup maybe? Most of the movies aren't in theaters anymore so the other option is your living room - mileage may vary (mine is pretty good but still pales in comparison to most public theaters).

I have a good friend who also loves Disney parks but isn't a huge fan of DCL. She has cruise on Disney twice though, once pre kids on the Magic and once with her young daughters on the Fantasy. She didn't love it either time, though she does say he had an enjoyable time. She cruises regularly, both with her kids and without, on Royal Caribbean and Carnival. They usually do one trip to WDW and one family cruise per year.

I'm not a big cruiser in general and would choose the parks or another land vacation over a cruise any day, but I do enjoy cruises when we do them. We choose a cruise for the vacation when traveling with extended family or friends, when the ports are interesting or we get a good price. We all have different priorities when spending our vacation dollars.

And hopefully this post makes sense. It is still early morning here and I have not had nearly enough coffee yet this morning.

Yes compared to the modern 4d, big screen, recliner seats etc yes. Hwever, to be able to stroll down from your room without buying a ticket or reserving a seat and catching a current theatrical movie in 7.1 sound and/or 3d, in a dedicated movie theater as opposed to a multipurposed room doubling as a movie theater as on most ships makes it cool in my book.

We are park people. We do attractions. Or so we thought. We took our first DCL (or any cruise for that matter) to Alaska because we wanted to see Alaska and we like Disney and figured well Disney will make cruising bearable (We didn't think we'd like cruising). DCL won us over in Alaska. We loved it so much we booked a Transatlantic that we just completed a few weeks ago. They did not disappoint. We LOVED it. It pains to say this, but almost more than the parks! The parks have their place. We still LOVE them. But "park" vacations are exhausting. We still get all that we love about Disney- characters, meals, entertainment, cast members, great photos with characters, and none of the things we don't love about "parks" - walking forever, heat, long lines for food, long lines for everything, crowds, long walks(or bus or car or monorail) back to the room for naps, a jacket, or an hour of peace and quiet.

We thought we would miss the attractions by giving up a "park" vacation for a "sea" vacation. We haven't yet. We still go to the parks, but the sea calls our name much more often.

Pick a Disney Cruise to somewhere you want to go, figure Disney is the icing on the cake, and give it a try. You may or may not be converted. Worst case you take a picture with 8, yes 8 characters at once( EBTA special!)

I was totally obsessed with the parks too.
Now I am over them and obsessed with their cruises, we have done 17 and have 2 more booked.
I will go to the parks with my grandkids to watch them enjoy it, but I have no interest in them with just me and hubby anymore.
Try a cruise its a whole new Disney experience and a lot more relaxing!!!!

I haven't done the cruise but I feel like I'd be bummed about seeing all the reminders of Disney but not actually being at Disney on one of the cruises! I'm not a cruise person in general though.
Me too! I’d feel like I wasn’t actually on a Disney trip!

I’m kinda the opposite. I love Disney & used to be crazy obsessed with the parks. I’ve been spoiled by the cruises. The crazy micro-planning 6 months in advance & the thought of navigating the mass of humanity to do anything....I’m over it. Maybe I’m getting grumpier as I get older. LOL!

Haha. First off, I knew I’d get someone that said they didn’t like casinos haha!
But do they have all the novelty Disney ice creams for free??

I’m sure you are so correct in saying they will be paying attention to detail. I can’t say that for other cruise lines.
I’m so curious to hear how you liked it compared to the others. Report back!

Have you been on other cruise lines? I’m curious how they compare.
