Disney Riviera Resort

I still don't see how they can justify this idea that all resorts are at some mythical equal level if that's their intention. Room sizes differ, rooms open to the outdoors instead of halls and so on. You just can't pretend that moderates and budget resorts are deluxe no matter how many times you say it. And the deluxes themselves are way out of hand.

Now they are adding a deluxe tower to a resort that was designed to be a moderate. Putting up fences won't change the fact that the resort feels like it will be a mish-mash just like a few of the theme parks.

They'll get away if the consumer lets them...which is likely...

The hotels built from 1970-1988 were built under an different mentality...so it's hard to equate. But starting with the grand and especially true once all stars came into play...they built/designed to remind you of what you paid.

This isn't in dispute. And while location is always big, there is a definite quality difference between what was built between Caribbean beach and beach club. By design.

I feel like I argue this a ton here...but never with people who spend time at all these hotels and understand.

Moderate dvc is a hard left turn from the dvc model...just wait and see...

This goes beyond moderate DVC in my opinion. It's some kind of game where they in effect build a Hyatt tower on a Holiday Inn property. They are both good hotel chains but not designed to be together. It's just odd.

That's a perfect analogy

We've been arguing this since the beginning that we started speculating this was DVC. I was the crowd that to be DVC, certain conditions HAD to be met. That lead to a very lengthy boat and location argument, just to have the gondola rumor pop up a few weeks after we had argued the fact that you couldn't enlarge the canals to accommodate the Friendships for 67 pages. None of us expected Disney to go airborne, but they solved the problem we had said had to be solved to make it DVC: they had to connect it to a park.

The second problem we saw to be DVC, it had to be separate from CBR. It seems they're attempting to do that by putting up a fence, giving it a new transportation option, and calling it something else besides CBR 2.0, but it's the equivalent to Bay Lake being Contemporary 2.0. It's the exact thing. I am sure there will be a "bridge" from Riviera over to CBR, just as there is one from BLT to CR. I am sure it will end up sharing buses with CBR, just as BLT shares the bus and monorail station with CR. I do believe Riviera will get it's own bus station and gondola station, however. I am sure Riviera will rely on the QS options over at CBR (hence the revamp of CBR's food court) just as they do at CR. This is BLT all over again. BLT is an extension of the contemporary and Riviera is an extension of CBR. So, imo, they haven't done enough to separate Riviera from CBR unless they address these issues.

The third thing that made the argument that to be DVC, this had to be in a good location. It's not. It's surrounded by moderate and value resorts. It's surrounded exactly by the crowd that DVC owners hope to avoid. That's not to say that people who stay at Values or Moderates are bad people, but those are people who are on budget and time crunches. They tend to be a little more fast paced commandos vs the DVC demographic that's here for extended or larger vacations that take their time. If you've ever spent the night at All-Star and then hopped over to a deluxe for the rest of your vacation then you know exactly what I am talking about. The Riviera will have the BEST dining options out of its surrounding resorts. It will be full all the time from those on the DDP staying at the All-Stars. I am shying away from this one mostly because I am concerned with crowd levels at the resort itself.

The fourth argument was price point. They had to find a way to price this along the lines of BLT without devaluing other DVC points. Besides being the only DVC resort on the gondola line (so far) I am having a hard time with this. The gondola station will be accessible by Epcot DVC resorts pretty easily, so being directly on the line isn't as large of an edge.

I have to agree with @lockedoutlogic. I think we're seeing a new DVC model coming into play and we're all in for a bit of a rude awakening as DVC owners.

That a good synopsis...in case those surfing the disboards are "too busy"...to read the threads:sad2:

...but just to be clear: the canals are being extended to Caribbean...the housekeepers are still out their digging but they hit a snag when they ran across a cottonmouth breeding ground...

Anti-venom is being overnighted in.

I mean...it's such a prime location...it's so close...it's better than boardwalk...why not do it?

I heard the most recent issue was they're low on housekeepers since the Haitian visas weren't being renewed.

You've articulated my point in an earlier thread much better than I could. There's such a huge laundry lists of "ifs" that need to be met, I'm not sure it'll work. Remind me, if you stay at the Contemporary, you're not allowed to use the Bay Lake pool, correct? I wonder if they'd do that at CBR as well. Just to make the DVC side seem more "exclusive" for the DVC member but still somewhat accessible restaurants/lounges for the non-members.

That is correct...but bay lake is such a generic dvc pool that I'm not sure who's gonna beat down the door at contemporary...

At Caribbean...which has the nice pirate pool...but.the quiet pools are 1985 stiz-yle...and they have a hot tub that fits 6 for 2,112 rooms...it may be a different story.

I don't think tbe stnadard dvc pool (currently being built at wilderness lodge) is gonna cut it...so they need bigger...

If they do...what happens to the remaining Caribbean rooms wanting more than the Yo-Ho pool?

Is it labadee for royal Caribbean? That's an issue too.

I figured, but for whatever reason people want something that they aren't supposed to have. I'm not sure they can make any pool areas big enough for the occupancy, see Polynesian's problem. However, the OG caribbean one seems nice enough from the pictures and with fewer rooms it might be ok. They really have to go bigger and better for that DVC, because perception is everything. As far as the hot tubs all the resorts need the big hot tubs like at coronado. And they gotta start kicking the kids out a little more. At the lodge they were great about it, other spots not so much.

The way the've introduced this project, there is no way that I would expect CBR guests to have access to DRR's pool. The branding seems very different. Not at all like BLT or WL to me -- making this a distinctly separate resort in my mind. And even as you say at BLT, pool access is only for those guests.

Yeah I totally agree, as DVC using my own points or those poor souls buying in, I'd expect it to be restricted to those staying at the resort. My whole point is that it has to be separate or else the perception of DVC "magic" is harder to realize for the dvc owner.

It is...

...but here's the problem: are you gonna have people from the new tower be directed to Caribbean for food?

Cause that is the Pandora's box...

"They are inline for Mickey waffles next to my room...but their pool is off limits?"

Perhaps I haven't personally conveyed my intimate knowledge of Caribbean beach customers in particular? Cause it's the home of Toms River, NJ rage...and they are more demanding than ANYONE on wdw property short of some of the corporate convention planners at the Grand...

Not kidding. This is a hornets nest...potentially.

Sure! Why not? BLT folks go over the Contemporary for food all the time. No uproar that I am aware of, though I may have missed this one DIS uproar... ... ;)

I'm debating the Ohio education system right now...

...what is the difference between contemporary and Caribbean?...forget the towers...

I'll attached hints...

I'm getting the sense that you're going with PRICE... (but I hope this test isn't graded...) :)

You're halfway there...
...price is comensurate with what they can justify based on the difference of amenities...

So the "wall" between Caribbean and this new James Bond casino themed place is new ground.

Agreed and :rotfl: for James Bond casino reference. :thumbsup2

I'm definitely interested to see how this shapes up...
