"F-A-S-T" - the signs of stroke.

My son in law had another TIA recently, that's now 3 or 4 that we know of for sure in 2 years. He is finally seeing a neurologist and a cardiologist. His primary doctor evidently said that he didn't need to see any specialists previously and took him off ALL blood thinners. My SIL was OK in his opinion. It seems he has a malformation of a couple of blood vessels, they are narrower than they should be so this is part of his problem. Yeah He doesn't need specialists involved!!! I think the last incident really scared my daughter enough to get him to the right doctors. I said I would lend her handcuffs from her dad if she needed them. Thankfully he is listening. My SIL is only 35 years old. I don't always get agree with him but my grandkids need a father and my daughter needs her husband.

i had a stroke over the summer.any other survivors/warriors here? I'm interested in others experiences.

My boss knew this, did it and had paramedics there within minutes, Probably why I survived what very few do, Hemorrhagic stroke.
My father had a massive hemorrhagic stroke about a year and a half ago from uncontrolled hypertension, the fact he is still here is a miracle that I'm thankful for everyday. He has aphasia, right side deficit and is in a wheelchair. He was 64 at the time. We are working on all 3 modalities of therapy and he continues to improve but there are some things we have accepted he will never do again. He was having a lot of pain (what an understatement) caused by spasticity but medical marijuana has changed him life. I was skeptical, I'll admit, about the concept of medical marijuana but having seen first hand the quality of life improvements for him it is one of the best decisions we have made.

I'm glad that you are recovering, I'm sorry that this happened to you!!

Another symptom is an excruciating headache, like one you’ve never had. My mom had many TIA’s and full on strokes. The symptom for her hemorrhagic stroke was the awful headache.

I believe someone upthread mentioned a doctor that didn’t take the symptoms seriously and not send to a specialist was true with my mom, too. She started getting pains in the back of her head as she was going upstairs. The doctor explained it away, no testing. She was getting dizzy spells and the doctor had some sort of explanation. She also would fall for no apparent reason. She then had a stroke where her words were garbled and whatnot, my dad called 911 and told she had a stroke. We would later find out that all of the falling, dizzy spells and pain was due to her basillar artery closing. This artery is in the back of the head into the cerebellum. After a couple of more strokes in fairly rapid succession, she was referred to a specialist. Her basilar artery was shut down and inoperable. 3 years later was the hemorrhagic stroke and nearly passed at that point.

When in doubt, call 911. My parents, at the time, trusted the GP and didn’t pursue things when they should have. I tried to encourage them to see a specialist but could not get them to agree.
