Fantasy Wheelchair/ECV/Stroller Accessories...

I thought of something else -
When you get to the ride, the mobility device will automatically hop onto the ride (fast or slow, rider's choice for those adventurous people). That would need a parental overide button so you could keep the kid from hopping on too fast.
For those places where you want to get out of the chair, it would need an occupant unloader to gently lift you out and place you into the ride seat. I'd also like it to have a "seat attraction" device that holds you onto the ride seats that are slippery.
One other thing, a force field, so no one can get too close. That would have to have automatic friend detection, so you could control who can approach.

I like the force field idea--that would keep those people who jump in front of you and trip, or just stop in front of you from getting hit. /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

so you could instantly go where you want, although it might be more fun to use it on people who step into the path, or lean against you... hmmm. where might they end up... someplace nice, I am sure, where they will get subliminal messages about mobility etiquette and awareness. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The one item that everyone forgot about is just an oldfasioned cattleclearer like on old trains! <IMG WIDTH="15" HEIGHT="15" SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif" alt="razz"> <IMG WIDTH="15" HEIGHT="15" SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif" alt="razz"> :D :D ;)

Well, my Jazzy is almost the dream chair but I could use a few things. A cup holder (cooled and heated as desired), a canopy for sun with attached sides to drop when it rains, a writing board (getting that with a standard cup holder. called the buddy system), a cover over the wiring in back and a retractible power cord. The ability to sit up, recline or go completely flat for a nap.

Doesn't quite go sideways but it already turns inside the monorail and the bus aisle. Turns almost in place. Has a key to disengage the control tiller so it can be left with no fear of someone taking it but can be free wheeled if necessary. Control tiller can be retracted to sit at the table. Pride Jazzy comes close to a dream and with a few accessories it will be.
:D

How about a 6 year or 100000 miles warranty on all parts that includes an automatic update every 2 years outfitting the chair with the newest and best equipment out there as a part of that warranty?

Wheelsie and teachbrooks have good accessories. At this point, I would just be happy for a wheelchair that doesn't break unitl it's at least 2 years old. DD's manula chair is only about 18 months old and alreasdy she has broken the footrests so they sometimes don't lock. The chest guide (not sure what you call it, but it's on the back of her chair to try to keep her centered. Well, she's leaned on it so much that she's sheared off the bolts twice and that side of the back won't stay where it belongs anymore.
If we can't get one that doesn't break, I'd settle for a self healing one that fixes itself overnight.

As a sibling, I would have appreciated the attached first aid kit to fix the ouchies caused from my sister getting me back with her chair as the chosen weapon. (Handicapped does not mean that she cannot fend for herself against siblings in normal spats)
On a more serious note if trivial, we (my sister and I0 always wanted color coordinated upholstery to match her outfits. I know this is trivial but it was important to us girls. I made pillows and covers but we couldn't get the effect we wanted.

I was doing a search on scooter tips, and I came across this thread, and I saw Sylvia's gentle humor, and just got inspired to bump it. :)

It has been ages since I thought of this thread... :) Can't help but bump an old favorite from time to time. :)

One necessary item is an air horn to assist in clearing a route.

On a serious note, on my last trip I saw a person with a powered wheelchair that was towing a wheeled platform about one foot square. His wife stood on the platform and held on to handles on the back of the chair. The handles were just for balancing purposes. Judy tried it out and found that it worked very well and was very confortable. I would want to see a tow bar mounted on ECVs, along with the availability of such a platform which could be easily (but very securely) attached and some type of handle or bar that could again be easily (but securely) attached to the ECV. It would also have to be available for rental units. HOWEVER, I think that short-term rentals (such as Disney's) should not have them available, as they are most often used by people with no experience. The longer term rentals (a week or more) should be able to have them as most people who go to the outside companies have already used them in the past.

Last year I saw a power wheelcahir with a baby seat attached in the front. The baby faced the out so it could see the world. People can be really ingenious in accessorizing their wheelchairs.

I tried to buy a portable boat horn which uses a cannister of compressed air. However, I found out that these are designed to be heard by boats several hundred yards away and can actually be unsafe if directed against people close buy. Oh well, it was a good idea while it lasted.

A few years ago at the shop at Pirates they sold very large (about one foot diameter) crape paper flowers on a four foot stick. One of these could be mounted in an ECV cane holder; it would increase being visible.
