DH helped me hit my CIU MSR on our RCCL cruise this week in the casino with $300 withdrawals at the slots. Now to deposit all of the cash when we get home. Thank goodness I think he is only down $94. He was trying to play enough to get free cruise offers. We’ll see if it works.

We made it to Kauai!

As we were landing yesterday and I looked out the window of the plane, I’d already begun to fall in love with the island of Kauai. Scenery and landscapes are my jam and Florida is flat. So I get excited about hills and mountains that break up “flat”.

The car rental pickup was a cluster and took over an hour and a half. During that time, I sat on the curb in the parking lot watching a family of chickens. This led to introspective thoughts on the nature of chickens and families in general as far as squabbles but then always roosting together at the end of the day. I made friends with one very curious chicken who I’ve named Betty. This is what happens when you’ve been on flights all day and have crossed multiple time zones We used UTB credits from several Amex Plats for the flights.

When we finally got the car and reached the resort all the pent up stress from car pickup, travel, work and life in general was swept away. It’s a lovely resort and I haven’t even had the chance to explore it yet. We booked a room on Hyatt points (25k per night) prior to the introduction of peak pricing and applied a standard suite upgrade certificate that I earned from mattress running during the bonus journeys promo in 2020 to hit Globalist with Hyatt. The standard suites don’t have the ocean views. To my delight and surprise, we were upgraded without even asking to a lovely ocean view suite! Not gonna lie, I got a bit emotional because I love a nice view. The hostess also gave us a bottle of champagne too! When we got to the room there were even more surprises! A goody package with chocolate covered macadamias, and other local snacks, along with a bottle of Pinot Noir! Wow! Just wow! I already know I will definitely be back. We ended the day with dinner at The Beach House just after sunset. The food was awesome and the view was sublime!

@calypso726, thanks for the photos! I hope you have a fantastic time there. Kauai is such a pretty island! We have an upcoming trip booked there, but we've already had to cancel this trip 4 times (so now it's shorter, costs more, and there were no suite upgrades available, and then last week United canceled our return flight) so I'm just hoping that we can make it there this year. I hope you enjoy the GHK as much as do. It's a special place.

Same thing happened to my DH, but for some reason I was auto approved. I really don't understand why. It did turn up in his account, though. That's happened for me in the past, too.

Has anyone tested trying multiple Chase offers from the same company? I used an Office Depot credit that expired 08/15. Now I have another from Office Depot that expires 09/30. Normally I wait until the previous offer disappears from my redeemed tab before using another but I'm curious if I can use them quicker.

Are you able to access ShopDisney from RMN? When I click on the 10% offer and then try to go directly to ShopDisney by click on the link I get an error. I have the deal finder in my browser that says the 10% deal is activated but I'm not confident it will track. Usually I get an email from RMN when I use a deal and then another when the cash becomes pending and I just tried and I didn't get that first email.

We had 9 days planned, but it's now down to 7 because I had to keep moving the dates and it was hard to find a room on points with just a few months notice. I've stayed before for 2 weeks, but I will be thrilled with one at this point. First time I stayed there was in 1994, and we went back a few times but mostly go to Maui because it's just easier to get there. Kauai is a really lovely island though.

And for whatever reason I only think of it as an app and not a website. Maybe it was for in store stuff with Walgreens or something years back why I have the app. I pretty much only use it for shop dis now.

We are here for 5 nights and I’m already kicking myself for not making it a longer trip. Afterwards, we are going to Napa for 3 nights. We will totally be coming back again.

I do it on web browser no problem. But I don't have any popup blockers, deal trackers, etc. Maybe those are causing a hiccup?

Just called Chase to have my new CIC rushed to me. Now I'm just waiting for Staples to open before I go back to school work. And I think I made a car decision--going to wait for the new hybrid CRVs which should arrive later this year. Hopefully my van stays healthy

I've decided I want a new hybrid also. I already have my Kia Niro Hybrid and love it! But, in the past if I needed a larger vehicle I used my van or my Jeep. Gave the Jeep to DD as she was always borrowing it and keeping it. Me - paying the insurance! Best to be rid of it.

The van gets at absolute best, 15 mpg. So, taking it to Florida is a no go right now. It's 3 and a half the gas cost of the Kia Niro. One might argue that if 3 and a half people ride, it's a wash, but - no.

A friend wants to buy the van. I don't want to sell to a friend. But, I'm not using it enough to keep it much longer, although insurance is minimal. It just takes up a lot of driveway space. It does run perfect and is well maintained. I'm a stickler for car maintenance.

I'll be interested in your potential choices. I'm also divided on letting go the Niro. It's resale and trade in value is more than I paid for it. I know that won't last as more options come on the market.

My husband has a Camry hybrid and the gas mileage is amazing. I currently have a Corolla cross. It was not available in hybrid yet when i bought it. They come out next year though and considering a trade.
