I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

DP- P2 Platinum retention offer 20k MR for 3K spend. Kind of a meh offer, but he has gotten an offer on this card every year since he opened it. We use enough of the credits to offset the rest of the fee, so another year it is. I think it keeps Amex happy with him.

I know this is a recurring question but was that the first call/msg about retention? My AF hit on my Plat on 6/7 and I've tried once with no offer (last week). I'd like to keep it (and honestly, will) but I'd like to get a retention offer of any kind. My homeowners when up $800 (just realized it and I'm just not ready to change, though I should), so my annual premium is due late July. I wanted to either use it for a retention offer or a new card, so need to pull the trigger in the next week if it's a new card.

Typing all this out makes me realize we should just spend the time to shop around for new homeowners, but we JUST switched last summer. It went up 50%. No claims, but wondering if it's just catching up to the actual market value for this house.

My Dh tried for a retention on his Plat a few days after his AF hit. There was nothing. We'll probably keep the card but a retention would have been nice. We'll probably try once more in a few weeks.

Retention offers can appear so it's worth chatting and asking.

I would make sure your ins takes amex if you haven't paid with one before. Not all of them do.

My AMEX personal platinum shows the MR points earned a few days after the charge posts. My AMEX business gold doesn't. If I look in the app or online I don't see any MR points for purchases on the business gold. Do MR points for business cards only become available after the statement posts?

Insurance is crazy. I plan to re-shop ours again this year even though we just changed last year. Been in this house 2 years in August. My sister was checking around for my mom's as it went up quite a bit and she's on a fixed income. My sister asked her own Allstate agent and he said Allstate agents were told policies should go down since the pandemic supply shortages and price increases have largely resolved. The agents were advised to contact their customers to lower premiums but agents weren't mandated to do it so... My mom was with State Farm for 50 years (her agent was crap, took a year to get my dads name off the policy after he died and she never did any reviews with my mom) and her new policy with Allstate is $600 cheaper (from $1500).

Hi :)! I came across this thread and would love to join your Reddit page. When I clicked on the link, it said the community is private. How can I get added?

Apparently I waited too long. I go through the the Cap One 100k quiz, hit apply now, and get a message the offer has expired.

I just noticed for our flight with United to Munich all of our first and middle names are together with no space. Is that going to be a problem?

Anyone have any thoughts on the new Hyatt Blackfriars in London?

I know we have a lot of UK travelers here, so I'd love to know what you think. It's not my usual preferred location (which is HP corner to the Ritz) but it looks interesting.

Help! First time to Europe and I can’t get my CS debit card to work to withdraw Euros from the ATM in France. It is not asking me to select an account and is failing to reach my checking account. Any advance?

It should work at any Visa or plus enabled ATM. Did you set up a travel notice before leaving? If so, maybe try a different ATM - try to stick to the major banks. I have experienced situations overseas where some banks ATMs don't work but others do.

If all else fails you'll have to call CS.

Curious how you got a free cruise from Carnival!.

I live in the greater Houston area, work in Houston proper, and am happy to answer general questions for you, if I can. I've lived here since '98.

We have two airports - Hobby (HOU) and Bush (IAH). You can count on the Galveston cruise terminal being about an hour from Hobby and about 1.5 hours from Bush if you're flying in in the morning. You can shave off about 15 minutes if it's not during rush hour. Both routes are relatively straight shots from the airports. Not a pain in the tail at all. We just cruised on Princess in April.
Wyndham Biz card gives diamond status, match that to Caesers (the casino). They will award Diamond status. Then, show that Diamond status to carnival! Very simple and the Biz card AF is only $95 so even if you didn't want the 50k Wyndham points its worth it. You can also match to Holland America and URComped. You used to be able to match to Royal Caribbean, but I dont see that right now.
