On our recent cruise. Seems a lot of women really like the dress I use for formal nights (don't have the heart to tell them I got it for $8.00 with a Senior discount at Salvation Army Thrift Store). I just smile and say "thanks"

This week, I got several compliments on my hair. It’s naturally curly and people notice it. I recently bought a summery, festive top and every time I wear it, I get compliments.

and here i thought i was the only one who ever did this. i've got one i've worn for more dressy occasions than i can count that i got for less than $10 at goodwill (swear someone must have only worn it for one occasion then donated)-best resource ever for items like that (esp. if you hit right after new years or wedding season).

It’s happening a lot right now - I got a new car not long ago and it’s a fairly unusual colour. Practically every day somebody in a parking lot mentions it. It’s kinda embarrassing actually. I don’t know what I was thinking getting something so flashy because I really prefer to “blend in” in most situations.

The cashier at Bealls asked the other day how old I was. I told her. And she stammered that all she meant was that she wanted to make sure I was old enough for the 40+ discount. I'm 53. I'll take it

I can't remember the last time I got a compliment from a stranger, but I did get asked out recently by a cute single dad I met at the playground. That made me feel nice!

That would actually have sleeved me right out. I realize people are just trying to be nice or even just make conversation but to have a stranger comment on something so personal would make me uncomfortable. I’d probably have moved tables, unless of course I was on a hot streak.

A few weeks ago, someone said they liked the top I was wearing.

I rarely do that, I might think to myself that someone’s shirt is cute, but rarely tell them if they are a stranger. So it surprised me when a stranger said she liked mine.

Last week someone complemented my shirt in a grocery store.

But my favorite was a little while ago, I was taking care of a patient (whose birthdate I could see) and his younger sister (which they told me). We were shooting the breeze when they said, "Wait till you get to be our age!". It gave me quite a chuckle because I was ten years older than him!

I received a compliment at Target. A woman came up to me as I was loading my groceries and son into the car to compliment me on my interactions with my son. Basically she was complimenting me on talking to him during our trip, which seemed more like a sad commentary on society than a real compliment, but she definitely intended it as a compliment. Apparently it's now become refreshing to see someone talking to their kid. Yikes. I hadn't noticed that things had gotten *that* bad....maybe because I'm too busy talking to my kid.

Last night, the sales lady complimented my linen shirt while my wife was in the dressing room trying on clothing, then brought out some shirts for me to try on, which I declined. It was a compliment for sure, but from a sales women with the intentions of making a larger sale.
