My DH and I want to go away for an overnight for our anniversary next month. :bride: :groom: We'd be going away on Saturday, July 7th, and coming back Sunday, July 8th. Our anniversary is Sunday, July 8th, so we'd be taking our time coming back, enjoying that day out. Depending on how far away we go, we might do a 3-day weekend, Friday night - Sunday evening.

So...any good Bed & Breakfasts that you can recommend? Any resort type area? I know there's the Cape... where else might there be a nice place to go for an anniversary weekend? I think we'd probably want to stay away from the Cape since it's the weekend after 4th of July.

As a point of reference, we live about a half hour south of Boston, and we'd like to stay relatively close. (Less than 2 hour drive). We went to Boston for part of our honeymoon... Maybe we should just spend a couple of nights there? We both love Boston... :confused3

Anyway, thanks in advance for any suggestions! :sunny:

What about Newport, RI? You could do some mansion tours, stroll along the waterfront. Good restaurants, too. It feels like it's "away" even though it's just a couple of hours from Boston.

Sox Game, Nice Dinner & Hotel...........

I was going to post the same question today! We live about 45 min. south of Boston and are looking to do something for our 15th anniversary at the end of June. We also prefer to stay away from the Cape. My parents used to live there so it's really nothing out of the ordinary for us to go there.

We stayed at this B&B...loved it..great restaurant...might want to check if they have a wedding that staurday...I probably wouldnt recommend it with a wedding.

newport is one of our favorite places, but it will be very busy then...we tend to go on the off season.

Woodstock Vermont is lovely, especially if you want to splurge and stay at the Inn.

See what's happening at Tanglewood that weekend and go to the Berkshires...beautiful and we found a great rail trail there if you're interested in riding bikes.

How about the Mt. Washington Hotel in NH. There's lots to see and do in the lakes region in the summer.

How about the Bridgeway Inn in Humarock, or theres a couple of B&B's in Scituate Harbor that are very nice.

There's also the Red Lion in Cohasett.
Those are all pretty close to home it seems.

Love these ideas. We lived very close to BVI and ate there often...one of my favorites.

Love love love the www.woodstockinn.com in Vermont

Also, the Balsams Resort in NH is supposed to be quite nice. A friend of mine visited last year on her anniversary and said it was spectacular.

York, Maine is also very nice.

I would also stay away from the Cape. You don't want to spend your entire trip in Route 3 traffic. :scared1:

Didn't realize there were so many MA Disers. :thumbsup2

kennebunkport is nice and not too far. we stayed at the maine stay years ago and loved it. http://www.mainestayinn.com/

I would also second Newport, Rhode Island. So much to see and do there, or even just to hang out. if you've never done a mansion tour, I highly recommend the Astors. Its not on the regular tour, but is so cool, definitely worth checking out.

sigh. I'd love a weekend in newport this summer.

Thanks so much for the replies, everyone!!! :sunny: All of the Inns look really nice.

mtemm: I really like the look of the The Maine Stay Inn. I like that it's near the beach, and they offer a variety of room/suite types. Which have you stayed in? I see they also have cottages. Which do you recommend? Thanks :)

I'm also going to consider a weekend in Boston, if we don't do a B&B. We both love Boston and don't get there nearly enough. Too bad there don't seem to be any good shows (theater) that weekend.

If you do go the Boston route, may I recommend staying in Cambridge at The Kendall Hotel
http://www.kendallhotel.com/
It is like a B&B -- small, personal -- but is a hotel. We stayed there one year for the July 4th celebrations and it was terrific! And it's right on the Red Line for easy T riding. And you could go to Salts or Rialto for dinner...mmmmm

I'd also recommend a ride out to Western MA. Maybe take in a concert at Tanglewood or a play at the Williamstown Theater http://www.wtfestival.org/
You see many well-known actors in plays by well-known playwrights (and some up-and-coming playwrights). We've stayed at the Red Lion in the guest houses, not the main inn and it was really nice. The inn has undergone some major renovations and is close to so many things.

I just checked out the web site for the Williamstown Theater and Wayne Knight (Newman in Seinfeld) is in a comedy the weekend of our anniversary! Hmm...might have to head out west... thanks for the info! :)
