Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread - Royally Refurbished for 2011

I have the Royal Room booked with River View:banana:. Can anyone tell me if these rooms are on the front of the mansions? I have never stayed or been too POR.

Yes, the River views will be in the front of the mansion buildings :goodvibes

Well I changed to a standard view. I requested a remodeled room in Magnolia bend. If I am front and center to the parking lot then I guess that just gets me to the parks earlier. I upgraded from 2 day tickets to 10 day tickets and got a refund of $107. My financial conscience is clear and I will now get back to counting down the days. If somebody gets there before me save me a riverside bench :cloud9:

I for one think that you made a very smart decision and hey you never know you may even get a free upgrade. That's what happen to us this past summer. We paid for a water view and got a free upgrade to river view. It was our first taste of pixy dust that gave us a week full of heaping servings of that sweet, sweet powder.

Stan!!!! Nice to see ya back. Yeah I guess I am one to not deal with chance. Says the guy who wants to stay at the poly the trip after next.

I have a riverview booked because that was all that was available. Now standard view has opened up now for my dates. I love the idea of riverview but I am second guessing the cost. I do not want a pool view (noise) or a parking lot view (though it would put me close to the rental). I love to hear any and all opinions. It is already paid for.

We booked a GV room last Aug, cause I didn't want to be looking out at a parking lot  and it wasn't that much more then standard view.
I wouldn't pay for Riverview at any moderate cause there are no balconies.
We did get a free upgrade to pool view, of the quiet pool between Acadian House & Magnolia Terrace. It wasn't noisy at all. We never heard anything.

The GV sounds like a great compromise and I wish it was available for my dates. We got a riverview upgrade from standard view on our first Disney trip, POR of course. Our door lock wasn't working and we couldn't get into the room. There happened to be a CM near by and she couldn't get in either. We had the kids and all our stuff with us. She went around the corner and made a phone call then escorted us to a riverview room on the 2nd floor of Oak Manor about 3 rooms down from the water. I was thrilled and it was a great location. We might have used up our allocation of pixie dust at POR with that one :love:POR has so much magic on it's own that I know we will be happy regardless. Thanks for all the help.

Congrats to you, and Safe travels to you! Have fun!

Been lurking - not posting much but it has helped with the countdown - we are leaving today and stopping overnight. Then tomorrow on to our first stay at POR!! Woo Hoo!!

I am the one that posted the original question about automatically getting a refurbished room if you get garden view. I called at two separate times today, to Disney reservations. I was told the same thing when I called each time. They both said I was guaranteed a refurbished room. I would be getting queen beds. I asked both times if I should put in a special request to get a refurbished room. They both said I should not make a request. That I would be getting queen beds. That there was no point in making the request. The one that I called the second time said that there was only a chance that I might get a trundle room with the queen beds. (which I could care less about) The second lady said if there was a possibility I would be getting double beds instead of queen, it would show up in her computer. It would say something along the lines of -room is being renovated to queen beds or something like that.

Now, they both could be wrong, but I am not going to worry about it anymore. It said on the website I would be getting queen beds, the reservation department confirmed this twice to me, and my email from Disney, confirming my reservation, states queen beds. Like another poster said before, if I am given an older room when I get to the resort, I can demand a refurbished room based on what my reservation says.

We booked yesterday and were also told we would would be getting two queen beds and a trundle. I questioned the murphy bed and was told it didn't have any info on booking those yet. I really would rather have a murphy so between now and then I will have to keep my eyes open and see what comes out.

I REALLY wanted a royal room but I guess they will not allow the 5th person in any of those rooms?:confused3

Did you ask to if they still had the cot beds?

Can three squeeze on to one queen bed?

They may still allow you if either of those is a possibility. Did you ask them if you could still reserve that royal theme?

Best wishes for a vacation filled with pixie dust... but be sure to leave a little for the rest of us! LOL! ENJOY!!! :)

According to the info I've seen, Alligator Bayou building 36 is due to start its refurbishment in the next couple of days (around 25 Oct). Could anyone staying nearby confirm this?

Yeah please those going in the next few days. Please do if you don't mind.

Thanks

I am jealous..this time last week my DD and I were catching a nap in our room!!

Can anyone comment on the noise from flushing toilets if you stay on the ground floor? Last year I was at POFQ in building 4 and the noise was horrible! I'm thinking of requesting a top floor room for that reason at POR in the mansions section.
