Sad Day - voice of Mickey has passed

I've merged several similar threads together. My condolences to Russi and Wayne's children. :sad1:

At the start of Mickey Mouse's career, and for many years thereafter, Mickey's voice
was performed by Walt Disney, himself.

There are already voices who can continue Mickey's vocal tones into the future, but Mr. Allwine will be sadly missed.

I never knew there was just one guy who did the voice for Mickey, I always assumed that it was lots of different people, but he did the voice for EVERYTHING, TV, parks, films, the lot! He must have been a busy guy!
Apparently there have only ever been 3 voices!
What a magical job he had! RIP!

If he has done Mickey's voice for 32 years, does that mean nobody else has? And who will replace him?

Pretty much (not counting the voice actors who may provide Mickey's voice for various non-English speaking countries). It was apparently right around the time that Allwine started performing Mickey that the Disney company decided that there should be one official voice for each of their characters, so that the Mickey you hear on television sounds the same as the Mickey you hear in the parks and the talking Mickey toys available in stores and the Mickey CDs you listen to and so on. So for all intents and purposes, Watn Allwine was THE voice of Mickey and only the third person to officially voice the Mouse.

I am fairly certain that Disney will find a replacement fairly soon, since Mickey's voice needs to be heard in any number of venues and the can only rely on what Allwine has already recorded for so long. I haven't been able to determine if Allwine's death was sudden or if he was aware that he was seriously ill and if he had the time to mentor a possible replacement. While I trust that Disney will make every possible effort to find a replacement with a suitable voice and hopefully as much respect for the character of Mickey as Allwine had, it would be a real shame if the new Mickey started without the benefit of learning from the experience of the previous one.

...but what I didnt know is that he was married to the woman who is the voice of Minnie Mouse....I would like to hear that story of how they met...

The short version is that they got the jobs voicing Mickey and Minnie and fell in love as they spent time working together. A longer version can be found in just about any interview they did together, including the one on the Disney Treasures Mickey Mouse in Living Colo volume 2. According to just about everyone who met them, they were near inseparable and always very much in love. I have no idea whether Russi Taylor will decide to continue voicing Minnie or whether she will retire because it would just be too difficult to play the part with someone other than her husband as Mickey.

I just read this...

Sound-effects specialist Wayne Allwine, who followed in the footsteps of Walt Disney to provide the falsetto voice of Mickey Mouse for the past 32years, has died, Walt Disney Co said on Wednesday.....Allwine is survived by his wife, Russi Taylor, who provides the voice of Minnie Mouse.

I am a little sad. The fact that his wife is Minnie's voice is sweet.

Was this the gentleman who took over after Walt? Because Walt did the first voice....didn't he?

Not directly.

Yes, Walt was Mickey's original voice,
but as time went on, Mickey was voiced by legendary Disney sound effects creator, Jimmy MacDonald (more HERE) for many years.

Then, Wayne Allwine was given the role.

That is so sad :sad2: I can't believe I never knew who actually did the voice for Mickey over the years. Will there be someone else who will take over the voice or do they somehow use clips of previous Mickey voices?
