Imagineers Considering Adding Special Events to Increase Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Replayability

In an interview with Gizmodo, Walt Disney Imagineer Alex Lee hints at some of the directions that the Starcruiser experience could go to increase the replayability of the two-night adventure.

“I think we’re going to start to see things happening organically as we begin to get closer to Life Day, and people playing hard into that, that we’re going to have the opportunity and our performers are going to have the opportunity to react to and kind of pick up on more and inject all of that into their storytelling. And then, of course, looking at opportunities down the line for formal events and what of those potential possibilities might come into play.”

Can someone explain how time is scheduled while on Batuu? My boys want to build lightsabers at Savi's while at Batuu. Is that something I schedule with a cast member to fit in with the rest of our schedule or book on my own. We do plan on doing both rides and eating lunch, so I'm not sure where to fit it in with also doing a mission while there.
Is the photo shoot automatically scheduled in for us or is that an extra we add ourselves?
Are the alcoholic drinks at the lounge included? How about at dinner?
Thanks! So excited!!

I am about 50 days out from "sailing." My daughter's high school has added makeup days to the end of the school year (due to Hurricane Ida) that conflict with our reservation.

Hopefully I can work something out with the school, but if not - I know I can't cancel without a penalty, but I can still move my reservation, right?

I think the answer is yes, with a $350 change fee?

Your time is not scheduled for you on Batuu. You decide when you want to go, and what order to do things. For Savi’s you should book through the Starcruiser phone line and make sure it is booked as a “port excursion” so it will appear on your schedule.

Photo shoot is extra that you book, again through Starcruiser line. CSL Portrait Experience.

Alcoholic drinks are not included either at dinner or in the lounge. There are a few fancy non-alcoholic drinks that are not included either, but basic drinks for meals are. (There is a soda fountain and blue milk station for breakfast and lunch.)

We went to Batuu early and had time for shopping, both rides, Oga’s, and a few missions, returning to the ship at noonish. Missions don’t take long, but you’ll want to do them to advance your storyline(s).

Thanks for responding! When do I book those things or how far out from our trip can I book them?

I would call and ask the Starcruiser folks. I suspect it is within 60 days of trip, like regular bookings, but if you’re staying at a Disney resort beforehand then maybe there will be some advantage along the lines of 60+10. It seems like the portrait experience is very popular so you’ll want to book it as soon as you can.

Another tip...
So a few things were broken and one merchandise bag lost on way from our room to valet. We had a ton of stuff between garment bags, suitcases and merchandise...and so some stuff happened. Also was given a kids head dress instead of adult. So we checked into Saratoga Springs, we went to the front desk and told them...they called Starcruiser...they replaced everything that was broken, and found the missing bag turned in by bell services...and also swapped out the kids for adult size. Was very easy, we left the broken things at front desk and someone came and dropped off new stuff and missing bag at Saratoga for us.

So I recommend checking your stuff as soon as you can...easier to do if still there than if home I would imagine.

We had a lot more snow days this year and we also will have to miss 3 days, they will be unexcused absences at parental discretion. Our state allows x amount unexcused on top of those for excused. I think we should be fine. The flights were twice as much to change so I’m keeping same dates.

Yeah, I'm just worried about final exams and stuff. I'm hoping we can get those done as per the original schedule, and then blow off the extra days they added to the calendar.

Also we talked to a lot of people while on and off the ship...we didn't find out till the last night when one guy we had been talking with told us...he was the Lead Animation guy on Gears of War 2 and Fortnite.... Was a great talk and for a gaming geek like me...amazing Q&A session. The guy is responsible for all of the dances your littles are doing all the time....I told him he may be responsible, more than anyone ever, to get kids up and dancing!! And by the way, he is leaving Epic games to start his own company...

We just booked our extras last week. We are staying at Disney ahead of time but 60+10 does NOT apply to the starcruiser. Everyone is able to book Oga’s, Savi’s, and the portrait experience beginning at exactly 60 days. The portrait experience seems to be the most in demand and books up the fastest. (The Captain’s Table is available for booking when you make your initial reservation.)
When you do call, be prepared to be on the phone for a while. I started calling right before the phone lines opened. We ended up waiting about 80-90 minutes to talk to a starcruiser specialist. He booked our portrait experience and Oga’s and then also spent a fair amount of time making sure that each member of our traveling party had a Play Disney account and that everything was linked and working. (Grateful to do this ahead of time so that we can hit the ground running when we get there!)

I am a high school teacher and parent. Be extra careful if your student is in any dual enrollment classes. The high school may not have flexibility regarding excusing work. Many of the DE classes here have mandatory finals, labs, etc that the high school cannot excuse.

What is the temperature inside the Galactic Starcruiser? Trying to figure out our wardrobe. I am noticing that the clothes are all long sleeves and pants. That isn’t great for Batuu. Would we be ok with long sleeves except for Batuu? Or do I need to find something more Star Wars bounding?

I don't remember the exact temperature but it's like other indoor buildings in Florida: air conditioned lol. For reference, I bought the black dress ahead of time which was a heavy long dress with long sleeves. I would not set foot outside in Batuu with it but I was comfortable going up and down stairs and did not feel hot or sweaty with it on while onboard the starcruiser.

I'm not sure about the temperature inside, but I found this extended forecast on the Imperial Holonet for the dates of our cruise...

Here's my attempt at neutral layered outfits purchased from Amazon for day 2. Going for a look between full-on costumes and Mickey t-shirts. Can't decide if I like it... looks like we could just be going for a hike.

Accessories, like gloves, interesting belts and bags, hats, goggles, could add some neat detail. If you have Instagram you can look for inspiration in Batuu bounding posts and there are some guides online if you Google Batuu bound or the like.

But I think you’ll look great in what you have and be comfortable, which is really important.

What with the trip being in space and all, how does the lighting work to transition from day to night and back? At home the sun wakes me up. Is there a fancy setup where you can have the lights gradually dim on to mimic the sun rising at your preferred wake time? Or do you just have to set an alarm and wale up in the dark? This problem is one that occurred to me yesterday and I’m very curious about how the Halcyon accommodates or doesn’t accommodate the natural wake-sleep cycles of planet-dwelling guests.
