I'm looking forward to seeing what they are doing with this one. Should be a good movie. As a child of the 80's, I was a BIG Top Gun fan. Will be interested to see Mav back in action.
I think that's part of it. But he's also holding onto his career when it's pretty obvious that he won't advance any further. I think most guys in his position would have quit and become airline pilots decades ago. Still, recall that Viper in Top Gun was only a Commander in his 50s.Who else spied the oh so handsome John Hamm in that trailer?
I thought the story was about him training new hot shots at Top Gun...and there was some new female young pilot he mentors.
Just the opening "bong" music note got me pumped to see this!
... and my guess is Slider still stinks.

I love that they used the same music.
Hard to tell since he was the only one given billing in the trailer.
Here is the cast. I thought I saw Jennifer Connelly in it.

I believe Iceman will be in as well.

The scene of the Super Hornets flying low through Lake Tahoe looks interesting, but I'm thinking they didn't actually do that. I heard about all the filming locations which of course includes San Diego. Miramar is now a Marine Corps facility, so they didn't go back there. Tom Cruise was spotted around Lemoore, California which is near NAS Lemoore.
I heard there was a "buzz the tower" scene filmed at NAS Fallon, which currently hosts the Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program. Doesn't sound as cool as "Fighter Weapons School" but the Navy no longer has pure fighter jets any more.
Me too! I loved Tom Cruise back then. Now, not so much but I think this will be worth the watch. And yeah, Jon Hamm...I wasn't going to see this, because I am SO over Tom Cruise, but then Jon Hamm, so....
Tons of rabbit holes. When Top Gun was filmed, Tom Cruise was 23 years old and way too young to be a Lt in the US Navy. Now he's in his late 50s and way too old to still be flying. Besides that, any military pilot who did all that kind of hot dogging stuff like buzzing the tower or other stunts would have been passed up for promotion (and thus forced to retire), court-martialed, or dead.Look, we're going down a deep rabbit hole if you want to start applying silly things like facts to either the original Top Gun or the sequel. Let's just inject the nostalgia of this movie into our veins and leave it at that.
