The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

I thought the same thing, Kris. I said to myself, "now I can camp at Gulf on a Monday-Friday and not worry about burning vacation days" (and avoid the busier weekend demand).

And, I no longer have to tow a long way every day (to reduce the number of days towing) so instead of a max of 600 miles or so a day I might cut that back to 400-450 especially when I head west next summer. Now I can say, "what's the rush"? :confused3

Congrats, you will love being retired, I'm finding that I'm busier than when I was working, you might want to re-visit the mileage thing. 350 is my max now

Congratulations 'anyway', Ed. Retirement is a big change whether you do it on your time or theirs.

DH and I were lucky enough to retire in our mid-50s and when it hit us that we were no longer stuck with starting trips on weekends (to get the most vacation days in) and that we didn't have to schedule trips months in advance because of leave schedules it opened up a whole new world for us. It will for you, too.

FYI, it didn't hit me that I was actually retired and not simply on extended leave until I'd been retired for about 3-4 months.

Well I was confused...o_O on which thread do I post my :cheer2:Congratulations to Ed. :boat: Now he can just cruise out whenever he would like to camp.:drive: Without worrying about when he should leave to save vacation days. :coffee: And he can take his time in arriving where he is going. :snail:
So enjoy retirement.

I can relate to that sort of limit. Our trek to the Fort is our BIG trip every year.
Our GPS says 979 miles from our driveway to the reception outpost. As the sole driver, set up and break down person and chief dog walker I want to be able do those things while it is still light out. Our trip is in mid December going Late January returning so after like 4:30 its getting dark. The 350 mile mark means like 7 hours of drive time Stops included and I am not worn out before we get there

350? I like the way you think, team bradfield.

Just let me work my way down to 400-450 and see what I think about it. :scratchin

Right now I'm having a weird sense of joy looking for out-of-the-way Corps of Engineers campgrounds that may be 20 miles off the highway (on an overnight stay) or 30 miles out (for a multi-night stay) from my destination that cost less than $25 per night. I would not have considered those in the past when I was wearing my "Captain Daddy" hat.

LOVING IT. 😍

Ok ,not to rain on Eds parade. ( sorry Ed! ) But i was almost about to retire also, yea, im too young but it was sort of a force out. But now , i think anyway, they are finally starting the procedure to promote me. So, the state certified my list, and same day scedualed my interview with the town. This happened today. I'm curently 1 of 1 on the list,, so only me eligible. And i have been doing the job for like a year. I was going to retire next year as they were not promoting or hiring anyone to save money. But all of sudden things changed. They waited too long and are paying out 3x the amount in overtime then if they just hired or promoted to begin with. So. Hopefully this will go through soon.

I like your odds, Spence. ::yes::

Even the math majors at the cow college in Lee County might roll over to their nearest casino and drop a 5-er on your odds. (It's a local reference but tiggerdad can diagram it for you if needed).

Seriously, fingers crossed for you, buddy. 🙏

@Teamubr i see your game is postponed because the cards have covid. Who went to the strip club? :rotfl2:
I'm not sure anyone really tested positive. The way they have been playing this week, it is more likely a mercy cancellation. :lmao:

The news here is still being cryptic. Initially it was 1 "person in the travelling group". On my team call this morning, one of my staff said it is now 2. A national report said "multiple". I think it was a good effort to start the season, but I don't know if anyone is going to make it to 60 games.

Best of luck on your retirement Ed. Sorry it was thrust upon you, but I am confident you will make the most of it!

I'm picturing a new thread already - Bama Ed's Ailiner Adventures!

Interesting that the build is a LONG way from completion, but you had to pour the stair in a storm?

It was my only option, i did have a good size commercial floor inside ( 10,500 sq. ft. ) but the roof wasn’t water tight. That would have been a disaster.

we pour lots of things during tropical depressions in New Orleans. Stairs aren’t on the list.
We will be pouring floors in the snow here in a few months.
