Thank you! I have a feeling I"ll be here daily now. I have so many cookbooks, but it's so much better to get a recipe from someone who's tried it and liked it.:goodvibes

I am one of those people that tend to cook the same things all the time...my DF and DS like basic, not foo foo cooking. The recipes that I have tried from the board are great.

We are also a very chatty group!!! ;)

Do you live around Lancaster, PA? I am almost on the boarder...near Easton. :)

Chatty? I think I"ll fit right in!:rotfl:

I'm in Denver. Right by the Reading turnpike exit....Green Dragon...Zinn's Diner (altho, that one's changed hands)..miles of antique shops?

We moved here from outside of Pittsburgh, which was a real culture shock! There is horse poo outside in the road right now from the buggies that go by.

Wendie -- I am glad you are all safe!

Glynis -- You and your family must be getting so excited about your trip. I hope you have a wonderful time.

Stephanie -- I meant to wish you happy birthday yesterday. I hope you had a great day.

Pennst8r -- Welcome!

Tonight is my late night with skating and soccer, so I will just make myself a sandwich when I get home. I am thinking a BLT, except I don't have any tomatoes.

Good morning everyone!

:welcome: pennst8r!! I look forward to sharing recipes with you. Yep, chatty will fit right in here.;)

Tonight's dinner will be oven baked baby back ribs, mac & cheese and a big salad!

Have a great day!!

This is definitely not What's for dinner-but I feel like I know ya'll and the NOLA board more than anyone else- so I'll re-post here looking for input!

I'm flying home for cousin's HS graduation and visit Grandma in the Home. So I call my grandpa over the weekend to see if I can borrow the car while I'm there and in the 10 minutes I'm talking to him he ends up crying! My grandpa has always been my rock! WTH?!?:confused3 Soooo, I'm looking at prolly an emotional trip-My first one back since Gram went into the home-talk about procrastination on my part! Gramps said odds are she won't recognize me, but she loves to visit. And no computer that I know of for me to DIS and vent!

So, I have a question (thanks for letting me get all that out!)- Everyone brings her flowers when they visit-cause that's what Grandpa tells them. I have all kinds of lotion, body wash, etc I'd like to put in a cute bag and take to her. She used to love all the different smellies. I don't know how bath time is there-if it's sponge, assisted, alone, etc. Anyone know if it is sponges can I get them to use a little of the smelly stuff along with it? I don't want it to just get shoved to the back of the shelf.

Morning ya'll! And I have a whole list of recipes to start putting up....oh, and photo link for the race pics and Hamster Derby pics from the weekend. Can you see I'm trying to tie things up before flying out in the AM?

Lynne - Welcome!

Lori - I don't have an answer for you about the bath sponges, I just wanted to offer a little support for what promises to be an emotional trip for you.

Lauren - Have you been back to the doctor? How's the BP?

Glynis - I know you have to be getting excited. That trip is coming up soon.

Kathy - Not to be a stalker, but I noticed your ticker and I think we will be in WDW around the same time. We are checking in on Nov 25th and out on Dec 2nd.

Tonight's dinner will be pepper steak with rice (for the gravy, of course) and field peas with snaps.

Gretchen

:grouphug: to you Lori. It is so heart wrenching to discover that the people who were always strong and steady are becoming frail. An old friend who was like a grandparent to my children was so sad as he cared for his wife in a nursing home. He was a big burly man who was a Marine during WW2, a police officer during the 60's and as an African American broke through barriers with a strength and grace of an old oak tree. He cried a lot because he always could "fix" what was wrong, and this was out of his control. His wife was the source of his strength. Your Grandpa must be feeling some of the same. Just knowing that you are coming will help to make things easier for him. We'll be here when you return.

Now you can bring lotions, powders etc for you Grandmother and the aides will use them. Label them with permanent marker, but know that they may be used for others as well as your Grandma. This used to make Bill nuts, but I find that it is one of the battles that is not usually won. You can ask the aides when you get there what they suggest to make her stay a little more comfortable. You may want to add a box of chocolates for her to offer to the nursing staff and those who care for her. I'll try to think of more.

Again, my thoughts and prayers are going with you.

Hi, Lynne!

I think that's the reason we all like this thread so much! We know these recipes are tried and true!!! Lindsay does such an awesome job at keeping the recipes current on the first post! She's just amazing!

I can't wait to get to know you better through your recipes.

We had to do this with my Grandma a few years ago (right after the twins were born, she fell and broke her hip). She loved lotion, perfume, etc., and we just talked to the nurses that attend her, and they are more than happy to help her out. Grandma never really used shower gel, or anything like that, but they are good about using her nice lotion, and perfume for her. I would say, just ask. It can't hurt, and it would give your Grandma a nice lift! :grouphug: to you! This is a hard thing.

Dinner tonight will be the Hamburg Gravy from this thread. Gotta use up the ground beef! I'll be packing up all the suitcases today, and stashing them in the van. We are leaving early Saturday morning, so I want to get as much done as I can. DH better get on the ball and pull his clothes, or he'll end up wearing what I pull for him.

Most definitely bring her the nice smelly things she likes, that reminds me of my last Mother's Day with my Mom - She loved make-up, nail polishes and perfumes. I fixed her up a huge basket of stuff and bless her heart she had make-up and nail polish all over her from head to toe, and she had a blast doing it.:goodvibes

Gretchen

Yep, we're leaving on 11/25 and coming home on 12/6. Let's try and hook up for a cocktail!!

Thanks for the hopeful thoughts ya'll! I really appreciate it. My grandparents raised me after my Mom died when I was young so this is something I've been dreading. But, gotta do it!

If anyone would like a laugh-I've uploaded the pics from this years Mascara race and Hamster Derby. My DH doesn't always look like the pic below, but we've always supported this fundraiser for the Arts magnate school. Basically it's a drag race- a guy starts in tee and shorts eats chili cheese fries and in a number of stops gets dressed(with the help of his pit crew-which I head up for our team!) in evening gown, etc! They raise money which gets turned in before the race. DH won overall last year, and most money raised in 2005.

The other is the Hamster Derby, which was Friday night. NO hamsters were harmed in the course of this race and they all have loving homes! It's like horse races and there's a big auction afterwards of donated stuff.

WARNING: These can be a little racy- but funny none the less.:rolleyes1

If you hit "View All" at the bottom of the page it puts everything on one page. Sorry, I haven't figured out how to get it to do that by itself yet.

Oh, and Joey's hat- My wedding ears from WDW 2002!:lmao:

I've always seen this thread, but never looked before today...when I need some new dinner ideas! So, a big THANK YOU is in order for all of you!

I can't wait to try a few of these out!

Welcome to the WFD thread! There are wonderful recipes here, every one that I have tried is a keeper :thumbsup2. The ladies who had posted them are Rock Stars to my family!

You are going to have such a good time, but I am impressed that you are packing already! I am one of those who is still putting things in cases long after I should be in bed. Buddy has me wait until he can choose his clothes and then whines that he does not have anything to pick from, and then once we get there he is still complaining about how his clothes fit. I won't shop for him anymore because he never wears what I buy :confused3

Lori, I am sorry that you are going to have an emotional trip... . I think the things you would like to bring would be wonderful. Like, I think Nancy said, label everything and talk to the nurses and aides while you are there. Another suggestion that I can make, is a new robe. My Dad and Aunt were both in the nursing home at the same time and my aunt always needed new robes. Mom would always bring candy too to share with the patients and staff. She still goes back every Monday with a bag of candy. :)

Lauren - Have you been back to the doctor? How's the BP?

I am ashamed to say, I haven't even made an appointment. I have to go to get a sonogram tomorrow for my thyroid so I will get it checked either there or at the CVS. :)

If anyone would like a laugh-I've uploaded the pics from this years Mascara race and Hamster Derby.

Great pics! Thank you for sharing! It looks like so much fun!

Have a blast! I LOVED DL when I went for the first time this past March. I want to bring our DD's(just went me and DH) next time. Tell Oscar at the Carnation Cafe 'HELLO!'- if he hasn't retired yet-but he did say something about staying on part time. DL had a different ambiance about it than WDW. Although WDW is my first love when it comes to Disney-DL really captured my heart! I want to go back!!!!

Lori

Here's a bit of Food and DRINK Porn for you guys.

Lauren, I'm sending this drink for you & your DF too!

It's last night's salad with steak & the Limoncello Cosmopolitan.

Welcome Lynne!!!!!:goodvibes

and thanks for the salad dresssing recipe!:thumbsup2 I'm on a homemade dressing kick right now, so I'm looking to add a few to my recipe file..

Afternoon Y'all,

Don't know WFD tonight? My IBS is acting up & I woke up with the gut wrenching pain again. It's either eating that very rare steak, two days in a row. Or those yucky greasy frozen cookies (from school sales) that I've been fixing for Alexis. I have a ton of them in the freezer & of course when warm cookies come out of the oven, I can't resist!

The "real" Caesar Dressing I made last night was yummy, actually one of the best Caesar I've had anywhere. It does have a "coddled" egg in it, so I don't know if anyone wants the recipe. Let me know if you do.

I got these from cards I got from the Freebie Board. Had it over the weekend and it was Yumm-O!

Sweet Potato Boboli Base

2 small sweet potatoes
2 cloves garlic, peeled
3 Tbsp butter
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp fresh ground pepper

Peel sweet potatoes and quarter. Place in a medium saucepan with whole garlic cloves and water to cover. bring to a boil and simmer 10-15 minutes until softened. Drain and puree in food processor with butter, salt, and pepper.

To make pizzas:

1/2 red onion
1/2 sweet onion
1/2 onion (I used regular yellow onion)
2 Tbsp olive oil
Sweet potato base
4- 6 inch Boboli crusts
1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese (i used blue and gorgonzola mix)

Slice onions very thinly. Heat olive oil over medium-high heat in large skillet. Saute the mixed onions 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until they begin to brown and carmelize. Remove from pan and cool slightly.

Preheat oven to 450. Spread sweet potato base evenly over Boboli crust. Cover with carmelized onions and sprinkle with blue cheese. Bake 10-15 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.

I actually used the oven but next time am trying the grill for a smoky kinda flavor.
