Would You Work If You Didn't Have To?

Not unless it was something I really enjoyed. I've spent large chunks of time not working or working only part time as a SAHM and am about to do it again as an empty nester. The kids have finished college, so now I'm quitting my full time job to get something part time that is flexible enough to spend more time with aging parents.

I've loved the times in my life where my LIFE isn't swallowed up in an overwhelming work situation. I can always find fulfilling ways to use my time. Things that I truly miss out on doing much of when I'm caught up in my career. I'm lucky that I was not the main income provider for our family and we are able to be comfortable on DH's salary.

Yes because I do best with routine and purpose but I would definitely do part time work with less responsibility although then I would also run the risk of getting bored. I imagine long term I would go in a different direction with financial planning and managing philanthropy but in the short term definitely a traditional job.

No, I wouldn't do the job I have now, I might find something more flexible or work in DD's school.

I don't have to work and I don't. I'd like to work for fun if I could do what I want but that doesn't seem to be in the cards. So I'm going with NO.

Negative... Although for like 8 months out of the year during my non busy times at work I basically get paid to sit at home.. do house work, read and binge watch TV shows. So it's like not working really.
Once I pay down my bills and hopefully have kids I would love to be a stay at home Mom
So to sum up.. Like a PP said hell no would I choose to work at all if I had the money

May I ask what is your job?

Back when I worked for The Man I would say no. But we have a business now that helps people and animals and we couldn't abandon our customers. We would have to continue working until we could transfer responsibility to others. But my Wife would have to continue answering questions with her expertise. I'd be cool with that.

No and I'm in the cards right now to probably retire soon. I'm sure once I'm retired, I will be the twice a week taking grandkids to school person.

I would probably do something, (I have no idea what). It would be volunteer stuff because it would be nice to not have to adhere to a schedule like all the time.

I am. I love my job and the people I work with. I was home for six weeks last year after surgery and by the end of it I was climbing the walls so I knew I wasn't ready for retirement yet. We also love to travel and by continuing to work we're able to do a lot more trips than we would if I stopped working. So far for this year we have planned 2 weeks in Grenada, a weeklong Caribbean cruise with a 4 day/3 night WDW stay at the end, and a 10 day escorted trip to China. We'll probably also do some long weekend spur of the moment trips too.

That depends. I could probbly not work now, so long as my husband does (or vice versa), and get by on life just fine. But, would I actually be happy just "getting by"? No, I wouldn't.

We could pay all the bills with dh's salary, but we wouldn't have money for many extras. Many moms in my position would likely be SAHMs, but my job pays well so I choose to work.

I'm home on maternity leave now, and I'll just say that at my kids ages (3, 14 mo, newborn) that I'd love to stay home, with the caveat of also having a nanny to help!

Wouldn't do the job I do now but would do something, probably volunteer somewhere

I wouldn't, but I don't now. I'm a full time student and will get a job when I 'm done.

Yes. I love going to work now, and I think will love it more once my dh retires. We are used to him being out of the house a lot, so seasonal layoff is difficult for me. I think having a place to go that belongs to just me is a good thing.

I work very, very part-time, primarily from home. The majority of the time I'm a SAHM. I love both my jobs.

I may go back to working more once all three kids are in school, or I may not. It really depends on if we need me to and if I want to. Right now we do not need me to work, so I don't.

Yes, I would work. Working keeps me being a responsible adult and not a hermit that stays home and watches tv or plays on the computer all day. But I would likely keep looking until I found the perfect job, one that I really loved to go to every day because of the work I do, the people I work with and the atmosphere of my place of employment. And it would most likely be part time with lots of flexibility to move my hours around my grandchildren's school and sporting events. It might take a while to find the perfect job though, that's a high list of requirements, haha!
