Zellers and The Bay Bought.

but I, personally would rather pay for things like health care and education and have cheaper priced products. Because I bet in the long run we are paying WAY more!

We are heading the way of privitization for health care and education anyway. And our systems for both of those suck anyway.

I think it is great that here in Canada the poorest of the poor can still get decent health care and have the same opportunities the rich do for education etc. But the reality is, if I worked hard in school and at a job, than don't I have the right to something better if I can pay for it? And why should I have to pay more for everyday products so that the people who are not so well off financially can have the same things I do. In that way the system is not fair. I think it should be my choice to help others, not forced upon me. And for the record, I would and do share what I can. We do not have all that we could because we feel it is important to help others who are not as fortunate as us.

I know that sounds horrible, but it is not meant to be. I just simply mean that I shouldn't be forced to pay more for a product than it is actually worth, just to support some systems (health and education, etc.) which aren't that great to begin with. Honestly, if I am going to have to pay more for these items than I would like to see my money better managed. Or maybe have a choice?

No. As my previous post stated, I do not like Zellers because everytime I go in there (Brantford , Ontario store.) the place is a mess. Clothing on the floor, items on shelves messy in general. The store just looks dirty. For the prices that they charge, this is not acceptable to me. I tend to go into the store to return items purchased by my mother in law. (She has very limited choices where she lives, and never seems to get the kids sizing right.) I have been hassled returning items too. I always have all the proper receipts and make sure that I am within their extremely limited exchange policy.

That's pretty much our experience with them as well. I bought a case of formula from them and EVERY can in the box was severely damaged and some had leaked. I took it back and that's the last thing I've bought at Zellers, they aren't even cheap anymore. It's not like it was the first really weird thing I ended up getting there either, I once got a baby gym and when I got it out of the box it was covered in a ton of somebody's hair...just gross. I don't know why, but I've gotten more bizarre gross things from Zellers than anywhere else...I'm done with them lol. BRING ON TARGET

besides Zellers. The one location by my house is so dead you can shoot a cannon through it and not hit a sole shopping.
I rarely go there anymore because a) every single time (without a hint of exaggeration) I have a scanning issue with something and b) the stores are an absolute mess and c)they rarely have anything in the flyer and d) the staff could care less (not all staff I'm sure, just the majority of the ones in the store near my house) and e) I hate having to scrounge up a buck to use a cart!! How irritating is this? A dollar to get a cart out. OR I can drag a basket on wheels throughout the store. Ridiculous.
I don't buy much of anything at Zellers because I can get it elsewhere typically for cheaper and not damaged!

I think it all boils down to a society choice. Canada & USA are very different in some ways, and here we have opted for a mixed socialist/capitalist approach, in order to smooth out some social inequities. There are still many, but everyone can get medical care, go to school, ... When I look out at some threads about medical insurance not willing to pay for some treatments, bankruptcy due to huge medical bills, I'm more happy at forking 40% of my income to our governments. While I'm born middle class and now enjoy a DINK lifestyle with 2 great incomes thus high taxes, and would sure love to have more money left in my pockets, I still think our system is better and more compassionate. When I pay a bit more for a product (not 25% more thought), I think the employees in that store get nice paid vacation time and holidays.

Now everyone is welcome to his/her opinion, and you can vote and push changes in the way you like, or even move to the good old USA if you prefer. :)

I can handle when they blame taxes, or different wage structures...but in BC they were blaming shipping. Now there is no way that I should be able to buy something from a retailer and ship it by itself cheaper than them buying a lot of them wholesale and getting shipping discounts. Half the time it's cheaper for me to get on the ferry and drive an hour and half if I need a few things...which we will be doing for DS's school clothes in about a month. When every pair of jeans I buy is $11 vs $30 it's worth it.

I've found that since about 3 years ago that their prices have gone up about 50%. Because of this I don't shop there unless they have really good sales. That being said, on a lighter note I tried to pay off my Zellers card (I owed them just over $30.00) with rolled coins. She had to call the manager, and even though I suspect that the manager ok'd it, the girl I dealing with was too lazy to count all the change, so she wouldn't accept the coins. As far as I'm concerned coins are money, and she was just too lazy to count all the change. So much for customer service. I'd have to say that their customer service is something to be desired.
