Can any one help me with a sewing question, I know this is probably way more simple than I'm making it, however I'm puzzled about it.

My niece picked out some pre-smocked material for me to make her a top out of, and I know it should be super simple to just sew a seam up the back and add straps. However I am trying to figure out if I need a pattern to tell me how much to stretch the fabric or not stretch the fabric. If any of you have used this type of material, do you just pin it around the child and go from there? Or do you stretch is a little so it's not to big? Or is there a special pattern out there that will tell me how to cut it depending on her size?

I think I will just pin it and baste it and see how it looks before I sew it. I'm making her some capri pants to go with it, and though the top should be the easier of the two, somehow it didn't turn out that way.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I think Kristine already answered you, so I would do what she said with the pre-shirred fabric.

She is so mad at me for filling a complaint. She told me she had no tracking number but now she said she called the postmaster and he has the dresses and he is going to send them back to her so I can't have them. She said she was issueing me a refund.
I bought Grace a few cute outfits from Target this week. I will just let her wear those. She will still have the four customs I made her. Her outfits from target are cute. I am so mad because I ordered some Minnie mary jane crocs . We will get use out of the crocs anyway. I am only ordering from custom disney clothes if I see the sellers name here. I have learned my lesson. The sad thing is I ordered the dresses Jan. 9 and she said it would be no problem to get them to me one week before we were to leave.

Oh come on! I don't understand sellers like this!!! I hope you leave her negative feedback! She deserves it!

First off, Jammy...I am in the process of making a 7 dwarfs outfit. I may chicken out on the dwarfs and just buy the patch versions of them. Yours came out beautifully!!!!! I am askeered of all the sewing to make them! I love the bowling shirt and Valentines too. Tell Jayden I love her capris!!!! Great job MOM!!!! Note to self...I gotta get the girls a white petticoat thingy...Lily's is so cute!

Hello everyone! I thought I would stay out of the talk this afternoon once it got out of the ironing and on to the clothing. I respect everyones opinions and I completely understand and can relate to what everyone was saying.

jham- I LOVE the outfits!! Too cute!! The Snow White one was totally worth all of the time you spent on it!

Oh, and the Hungy Caterpiller and fairy tale outfits were just great!! and there was sooooo much more!!! I guess we have all been sewing like crazy. I know in New York you get tired of the winter and look for things to do to get your mind off of it!

Here is what I have been working on. I was starting The Minnie dresses and my machine took a poop . So, I ordered a new one and three days later my machine is working again!!! It never fails....anyway, I finally got the Minnie's done! I just wanted to do them simple, so they look like Minnie. I have to make some capris to go with them next.

and I finally made my first flouncy. My D5 LOVED it. Somehow I shrunk the pic, but it's Hannah Montana flannel backed satin. No, I did not make the shirt but I am working on a matching top......My D5 told me she HAD to have one!

I use to have home show parties for Orient Expressed. It wasn't too much work and I always made a few hundred dollars and got a ton of clothes!



Wow, you did an amazing job! Can't wait to read the TR and see more photos. I noticed you have a pic of DCL in your tag. Have you been on a cruise and if so do people wear customs? We are sailing on the Magic over this Thanksgiving and I haven't seen any posts about customs for cruises. Hope my kids won't be the only ones.

We went on our cruise in 2007 before I started sewing I believe I saw a few customs on Pirate night, but not sure otherwise I was oblivious at the time. It would've been so fun to have customs!

WOW I LOVE all of these, the kids look wonderful. I agree with so many others...that Snow White one is my favorite!

coteau_chick, do you mind telling us who the seller was? This whole thing sounds vaguely familiar to me. I seem to remember someone else having the same problem with a seller of pillowcase dresses but for the life of me I can't remember the seller's ID. I do remember they changed their feedback to private shortly after. I hope it's not the same person!

I sell on ebay...a lot...and I do not print my shipping through paypal. I have never not had something show up, but I am sure the first time I do I will be getting the tracking numbers!

That sounds familiar to me too! Was that the incident where the item finally arrived but the appliqued face had the wrong hair?

The best tip that I can give to someone who is ordering a custom is to tell the maker of the item that you are leaving one to two weeks before you actually are. That way if you don't get the item in time than you can make other arrangements. It seems that some sellers of customs aren't as honest as we would like for them to be. When I ordered my wedding dress I told the designer that I needed one month sooner than what I actually did. She had it to me a 6 weeks before my wedding.

That is so horrible! She is definitely lying. Please leave her bad feedback, so that she can't do that to others. I am so sorry for you.

Oooh.. where did you get your dwarf designs from? I much prefer machine than freehand! I am still learning that. I can see how it would be quicker though. When I made my Little Einsteins dress it took me about an hour and a half for each character!!! I can imagine that the dwarfs were just as bad. I told my DH I need a new machine that has a faster speed.

They should not ask so much of you!!!

Maybe you could use phrases like....

"This is out of my league" or "I dont know if it would be more COST EFFECTIVE if you just purchased them already done" or " I dont have the time to get all that done"

Sometimes you just have to yell - lol!!!!!

I looked at making my own wedding invitations but was able to purchase them for cheaper than I could have made them at rexcraft.com, and they were one of the most complimented parts of my wedding. Maybe you can convince her there is something there that she would like.

I just love the butterick pattern that I used for dragon shirt and then these shorts. It was too easy, and comes from me.

Here he is with his fish outfit. I believe the problem is that the fabric is dark blue and the shirt is mostly light blue?

I think it turned out great!

Here are a few pictures of some customs I don't think I posted before our trip. The 7 Dwarfs skirt took FOREVER to make! Let's just say as she grows, it will be getting ruffles.

I love it all. I don't think I'd have the patience to do the dwarves.

I posted this dress the other night but when my DH came home from work he said it was cute but it looked like a pillowcase so I changed it I like pillowcase dresses but this one wasn't supposed to actually look like one

I didn't realize until I had already serged it all together that in two places the same squares were too close together. I didn't feel like re-doing it so I'm leaving it


Everyone here does fabulous work and I love looking at everyone's stuff. I only go to Disney once a year and I don't sell my stuff so that's why I don't post in this section very often. I think I posted a few times last spring. I love sewing even though I'm not an expert

Okay, one last attempt and then I really need to go get some work done.....

This camera really does stink....I thought Kodak easy shares had a high rating? I must be doing something wrong.....

I use an Easyshare. I also use the Kodak programing with my canon camera. Could the satin just be reflecting on the lens? So it's getting a misreading? Just a thought.

Sounds to me like she's never got them in the mail. She must live a very small town, our postmaster wouldn't do this until it's been a certain length of time, and you fill out a card.

Linnette, if you feel you have to do this, why don't you tell her to get the stuff first, then you can talk about what she needs? That way at least you don't get stuck buying anything without reimbursement. Show her the websites everyone has shared and tell her how much cheaper it will be for them.

Linnette, dear, sweet, giving, caring Linnette...I was in shock when I heard you gave that girl who tried on the Give outfit and asked you if she could keep it (which really surprised me) I thought WOW! I wouldnt have given it to her. But this request takes the cake!
I think you need to speak up and express your limitations. Perhaps you could ask her to choose which she would like- invitations or dress. And if you are going to do the dress, she needs to buy the fabric- perhaps you could suggest she come with you to pick out fabric (if you REALLY do want to make it) and let her know she will need to purchase the fabric you need- you will need yards and yards to do a wedding dress, and even more if she wants a bustle too. You are kind, but that doesnt mean you should be taken advantage of.

This person has waaaaayyyyyyy too many stories, don't ya think? I thought the postmaster had her package and was returning it to her - or was it that she had already mailed it - or was she getting ready to mail it - now its at the stop before yours??? she had a number, didnt have a number -come on - they cant all be the truth!!!! You get your money back, she gets her product back - dont feel bad.

I had someone win some of that preshirred princess fabric from walmart last year on ebay- well, she asked me if she could have more, ship a certain way etc....well, then after 2 weeks, I file a complaint -all of the sudden she tells me she hasnt had access to a computer because she had traveled....then, she adds in that there was a death in the family - then it was that her daughter was ill -then all of the sudden she says the child who she bought the fabric for had passed away.....tooooo many changes in the story!!!

I read an article about how to say no once, and it said to say "I can't." AND, it can be because "you can't because it's too expensive, or you don't have time, or you feel taken advantage of,"...but you don't have to say that. Just, "I can't." It's much harder to argue with than "No."
