September 2012 code watch!

Called and had a big whopping 10% off room-only :sad2: Didn't book anything.

CM told me that September is a very popular and busy time to go so I needed to book soon or they will fill up  Everything we have looked at says September is one of the lowest times.

THat's what the online CM told me yesterday! That rooms fill so fast in September, I better book now. I kinda thought that was crazy! I was there in 2010 and the place was pretty empty!

I don't know... in 2010 we ended up arriving a day early (we drive and we got to leave a day earlier than planned). We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express just outside of the DTD entrance. The rooms were HUGE. Ridiculously huge. And the pool was nice. And it was walking distance to tons of food choices. My hubby's company gets a discount with them, we could stay there for $82/night and get free breakfast every day and have all that space in that big room. SOmetimes I think that is our best bet. I just don't know. Disney better offer me something soon or we just might go that route.

I just think they are trying to pressure us into booking now so they won't have to lure us with discounts. So, they tell us it's a busy time to go. Really?? When all the kids have gone back to school and all you have are home schoolers, people without kids and the few people willing to pull their kids out of school? And peak of hurricane season? I doubt it's that busy.

We are going off site too if they don't offer something better. Probably WBC. I'm not willing to pay out the nose JUST to stay at a Disney hotel. I'm just not. I'm sure it's wonderful but saving $2K by staying somewhere else would be pretty wonderful too ;)

No I live in GA...

Wow! That makes me want to call and see if I have a FD PIN!

QUESTION for anyone:
I get emails from disney.com and sometimes do get PINS sent to me .... would the PIN "attached to my name" automatically be emailed to me as well or would I still have to call to find out?

From my understanding, rooms actually do book out because of the promotions that go on, for room rates or something. People stay there, but dont necessarily go to the parks. We went in September last year, and the hotel seemed busier then the parks did :P The parks were dead quiet.

i have received my pins by regular mail.
it's usually in a flyer tri fold mail out.
that's how mine came last year and this year.

Julie, we will be there the same time (we go Sept 13-21). Even though we have been before i to feel that the planning and counting down takes over. Too much excitement to look forward too.

Hey, that's cool! Where are you staying?

This is our thinking as well. I know we'll spend more than $200 on food but certainly not even close to what Disney "gives" you for free dining. Meanwhile, you are paying rack rates on rooms. I'd much rather have a discount on the room or the stay and play.

i'm glad im not the only one who dosn't want free dining and wants a different type of promo. free dining is not as great as most people think it is, and alot of people waste food because of it. now if you could convert some of those desert's that come with meals into snack credits i'd be much more likley to consider it.

Right, kids stay and get tickets for free.

this is correct. we booked with stay and play last year, saved a bundle! spent $200 on food between the parks and groceries from garden grocer

I have heard other Dis'rs say that they never knew they had a pin attached to their name until they called, so if you are concerned about it, it would be better to call than wait.

Thanks macraven and ShhhQ.

I do get tri-fold flyers in the reg mail... I think they're from my Disney Rewards Card tho. Never noticed a PIN. (??)

I should just call and see.

How often do you all call and check?

When I called today to see if I had a pin, the CM said I had one that expired. I told her that I never knew about it and she said it definitely would have been emailed to me or sent in the snail mail. I never received one that way :confused3 And now I have a current pin but I never received it either. Only knew I had it by calling.

Exactly! They base the value of free dining on 1)their over-priced meals 2)everyone buying a drink and 3)everyone getting dessert. And we are a family of 6 so we automatically are gonna get an 18% tip added on using their over-priced meals to calculate the tip. Um, no thanks :) We can eat for much less on our own and would love a good room-only discount.

What scares me about paying for food is #1- my husband likes 1 sit-down meal a day. He's kind of a food-snob and doesn't like "quicky meals". #2- We're bringing our 2 boys (age 15 & 20) and you know how males that age can eat!

Since I have the time (no PINS out yet) I should just try calculating a rough estimate on what we'd likely spend in food. Then it would be more clear which was the better option- FD or RO discount.

I agree. FD is the best discount for our family. We love it. Our kids want nothing to do with pool days when we are there so we stay inside the parks. We use the value resorts and get FD and it saves us big $$$.
