WISH Away the Pounds January Challenge -- Jumpstart the New Year -- Everyone Welcome!

thanks for the cheers guys...I'm trying to regain my momentum

QOTD--We are 3+ weeks into the New Year.
Do you think you have gotten "real" about making health choices or are you still struggling? If so, what are your struggles?
For folks who have been around awhile now (including me), how have you jump started your healthy choices?
For everyone--if it takes three weeks to establish a new habit, are you seeing new habits fall into place?

so there's my answer...still struggling with my journaling. wine, dwindling but still in existence holiday candy, meals out...there's dragging me down

I'm off to hit the dreadmill! it's snowing more here too.........it's just become the normal :headache:

Woohoo, it's snowing. :( Ok, I am faking it. Broken record here, but done with the weather.

At some point today we are going to hit the Y, but will wait until the roads are a little better. Other than that, no big plans for today.

Have a great Saturday!

Well I thought I had but I haven't lost any weight. Had a close call with a UTI last night and definitely need to lose some weight so my pants aren't tight. I still refuse to buy larger. Might have to take the dreaded plunge into MFP land. I like the site a lot I just hate that is hangs on to every food I've ever eaten and it takes awhile just to find stuff in the list. You would think they'd have something so favorite foods can be deleted but they don't.
Feeling ok today but I am one with the humidifier and I think if I left it, I'd be much worse off. I'm just going to rest today and stay warm. I have to take husband to dentist and be there for his appointment because he needs a driver home. I can just read while I'm there-- no biggie. I'll take some meds before I go so I'm not dripping and sneezing and getting everyone else sick. I took some cold meds yesterday so I could work but the only thing that stops a drippy nose is night time meds and I was pretty loopy all night, getting very dizzy by the end.

I think I am doing ok, but still really struggling with how to fit treats in. Before gf I kept no junk in the house and we just went out for treats. It is a bit more challenging now. And I use too many excuses for why it is ok to eat the junk. I am doing well with the exercise. I am over 1500 minutes for the month and keeping up with my mile a day despite the craptastic weather.

Today I am doing my second to last long run before the Princess -- 12.5 miles on the indoor track. princess: Luckily the indoor track weather is closer to FL weather so I don't have to freeze outside for 4 hours. :rotfl:

Happy Saturday!
Hope the run went well!

I think for me getting real about health choices is doing the things that I know I should do consistently -- make good food choices, honest tracking and renewing my acquaintance with real portion sizes. That seems to be enough to help me reboot when I need to -- which is pretty much all the time. :rotfl:
I used to do so well with portions, but I am struggling with that too. Letting my inner child get in the way (I want what I want when I want it).

The best lesson--we can always jump back in and reboot/regroup. :)

:grouphug:
Hope the treadmill went well!

Susan--I refuse to buy larger too! Ok, well I did last fall because I needed pants for work, but if I hit spring with out dropping at least 5 more pounds I will have no shorts to wear! Time to get my act together!

****
We skipped the Y--wasn't feeling it--and walked outside for 60 minutes. It was up to 32 :cool1: with 3 or so new inches of snow. The roads were about 50% cleared so at least half the time it was like cross country skiing without benefit of the skis.:rotfl2: My glutes are not happy. And it was also fiercely windy. Wonderful to be outside, but it made for a hard workout. :)

Had a run in with some popcorn this afternoon....ok, I made it and ate it and put butter on it. It was delicious. :)

Hope everyone has a great evening!

Organized or disorganized? Very, very, very organized. To the point of sickness, perhaps.
Pink or blue? Blue.
Fall or spring? Fall! Spring is great, but not in Tennessee, state of allergies.
Musicals or plays? Musicals.
Talker or listener? More like blatherer.
Planner or "fly by the seat of your pants"? Plan, plan, plan! See above on organization.
Twizzlers or Red Vines? Neither as I do not like most candy (I prefer cheese fries and chips!)
Beach or mountains? Beach!
Traveler or home-body? Traveler! I flew 45 weeks out of the year for an old job and it was the best ever!
Running/walking or Spinning/biking? Running!
Snow blower or snow shovel? Neither here in TN, in home town Chicago, snow shovel!
Team player or independent worker? Independent - hate group projects/assignments!
Downton Abbey or Dr. Who? Dr. Who! But I do want to start watching Downtown Abbey.
Real books/ magazines or electronic (Kindle type)? Another who likes turning pages! My husband had to enact a one-to-one retention policy for books (one new one comes in, one has to get donated) because of me and my daughter and our book love!
Oatmeal or eggs? Either! I love both.
Cheesecake or chocolate cake? Cheesecake, definitely.
WDW or DLR? I think WDW, we will see this coming October!

As for the weekend QOTD, I think the changes I have made in the New Year are really starting to stick. It was really life-changing for me to realize that exercise and being an athlete was a goal I could (AND SHOULD) accomplish, as I have always concentrated on "academic/work" success as defining who I am. As I finally graduate this spring, I need a new goal, and I chose physical activity because I have never done anything like that in my life. I have made a goal to run the Princess Half Marathon in 2015! The choices I have made with this goal in mind since the beginning of January are really taking shape! Yay!

Have a great rest of the weekend, all, and stay warm if you are in the east half of the country!

Have a great Saturday!

I wouldn't say I am "struggling," but I am definitely not as serious as I can be. I am not making excuses, but I am finding it hard to eat healthy when it is -3 with wind chills of -15. I just want yummy, comfort type meals. I have some healthier dinners planned this week, including today's stuffed cabbage casserole from the Skinny Taste website. I guess I need to get back to tracking ALL my food and relax with the snacks.

Rose~I think we should all head to a Caribbean island and escape this nasty winter! We have a wind chill advisory almost every night! School has pretty much been on a 2 hour delay half of the days since Christmas vacation. Tuesday & Wednesday morning lows are supposed to be between -7 and -14 (real temps) with wind chills up to -30. I quit! Oh, and I had a "run in" with popcorn at the movies this week. It was so warm and salty and buttery. I do not regret that decision!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am just doing a quick check in again. I feel so bad I am not around as much as I want to be. I got a bunch of stuff done today, so I've been keeping busy grocery shopping, cleaning, cooking, cleaning again, and doing laundry. I told DH that if school is cancelled any day this week, we are cleaning the kids' rooms. They have too much stuff that just needs organized. Although, DS10 is a hoarder and he needs to throw stuff out and pack up stuff he doesn't use anymore for a future garage sale or donation.
I am off to do some budgeting and sign up for a half marathon with my sister. We walked this one last year and are planning to walk this year, too. Although, they moved the race location, so we are bummed, but we'll still have fun.
Stay warm and healthy :)
Jill
QOTD 1/26/14--Favorite thing to do outside at WDW or DL in the sunshine that does not involve a ride or attraction?
Off to the Y. Back later with replies. :)
Morning all and Happy Sunday! I'm home today, but busy getting stuff together here. I need to feed 40 people (again) at DS's robotics team meeting tonight. Normally I wouldn't do two dinners, but today is his birthday and he wanted me to do dinner again, so I said yes. So I am making a huge batch of broccoli cheddar soup and some small sandwiches. Bought a big chocolate birthday cake at Costco, so that was easy.
We had our celebration dinner last night. For the last few years he has wanted to do Pizzeria Unos, but last night he preferred take out pizza and a movie here at home. I managed to keep some control with the pizza, but did indulge in a (not-worth-it) piece of triple chocolate chip cake (also from Costco). Should have said no after a bite or two, but I kept thinking it would get better. :confused3 DH and DS really love the cake, but I've learned my lesson. THankfully I didn't defrost the entire thing....just 3 slices.
Back ON PLAN today with eating and exercise!! Can't stand this feeling like I have lead in my stomach from eating high fat/high carb foods that my body is not longer used to and can't stand the mental feeling of frustration and guilt! SO NOT WORTH IT!
Off to start my new week off with a great healthy breakfast of nonfat greek yogurt and berries! Making pancakes for the birthday boy, but they don't tempt me...............P
QOTD 1/26/14--Favorite thing to do outside at WDW or DL in the sunshine that does not involve a ride or attraction?
:)
We love resort hopping to check out the theming. DD and I also love to just do some sitting and listening and smelling and looking... especially at the MK. So much to just ABSORB there!
I'll be BRUTALLY honest and say admit that I am really struggling right now. Struggling to make the best food choices, struggling to get back to regular (or ANY) exercise. I'm making a solid PLAN for this week to help me get back into the right frame of mind.
Good morning all! :goodvibes
A friendly reminder that today is weigh in day.
It's very quiet around here so I will go with a fun fact question for the QOTD Friday, January 24, 2014:
Organized or disorganized? Mostly organized.
Pink or blue? ALWAYS PINK!
Fall or spring? Spring.... because summer is next!
Musicals or plays? Musicals
Talker or listener? Waaaaaay too much of a talker!:laughing:
Planner or "fly by the seat of your pants"? Planner, planner.... PLANNER!
Twizzlers or Red Vines? Twizzlers....never tried a Red Vine.
Beach or mountains? Not particularly drawn to either, but I'll say beach.
Traveler or home-body? Wanna-be world traveler.
Running/walking or Spinning/biking? Running/walking. Hated spin class!
Snow blower or snow shovel? Snow blower. Our driveway is too long to shovel!
Team player or independent worker? Independent
Downton Abbey or Dr. Who? Downton Abbey!!:thumbsup2 I have tried Dr. Who to make DS happy, but I can't get into it.
Real books/ magazines or electronic (Kindle type)? Either (but books over magazines).
Oatmeal or eggs? Both (especially if they are steel cut oats and egg whites!).
Cheesecake or chocolate cake? Cheesecake. Not a big fan of regular cake.
WDW or DLR? Too hard to answer. Love DL (been there once) because it is the original and it is so small and handy to walk around and walk from your hotel and walk between DL and DCA.... and because I can so well imagine Walt traversing the streets there! But WDW is FABULOUS with SO MUCH to see and do.... you could be there for weeks and not see it all!
BBL with replies! Remember this is still A WHOLE WEEK to get closer to your goals! ::yes::
Thanks.... I need that reminder!
Off to start making the pancakes!.................P
Can I just say I will be so glad when 1/2 marathon training is over so I can go back to losing weight!!! This has been a very hard month for me but I am maintaining.
I know that the weather has made things challenging for me this month. I want to come home from work get under a blanket and stay there. It has been challenging on those brutally cold days to even go to the gym. We just don't have clothing, etc for days when it is that cold--because it is few and far between (normally) around here. Our schools have been delayed/or cancelled a bunch as well. Hang in there! It has got to improve sooner or later. We actually got a break today and it was awesome. Back to nasty cold again tomorrow, but at least today was sunny and warmer!
We like just walking around or sitting on benches and people watching. I have done my mile for the day at MK and Epcot several times. And we love, love, love walking around the lake at BW/BC and between OKW and SSR. If I can find airfare cheap enough we might go for a long weekend in March just to enjoy the sun. Might not even get park tickets!
I keep reminding myself--the days are getting longer, the days are getting longer...:goodvibes
It will be worth it Buffy! :):)
I had a great workout day! 47 min on the AMT, 13 min on the elliptical, 47 min on the indoor track AND 70 min outside walking in the sunshine this afternoon!:goodvibes
I also remembered to take my vitamins. I forgot all week and I think not having my Vit D all week was really catching up with me and making my blah feelings about the weather much worse!
I hope everyone has had a great weekend!
Sorry I have been MIA lately.
I went to DL last weekend and ran the Tinker Bell Half Marathon. I even managed a PR! :cool1: The trip was all too brief and I am right back into our busy schedule. Plus my mom is here! I did make my goal for the month and am right back into training for the Princess next month. I am excited to go earn my coast to coast medal. :thumbsup2 I will be catching up here, I hope everyone is well.
Edit: And I registered for Dumbo this August at DL while I was still sore from Tink. I'm trying to decide if I am crazy or dedicated. The Dumbo Double Dare was tough (mostly because of the extreme heat and humidity) and I was an exhausted wreck afterwards. By the next day I wanted to go do it all over again!
Very exciting goal!
Glad you got to enjoy the sunshine! Even when it's cold and snow is on the ground, if it's sunny, it's always better.
Wow! That's an impressive workout today. Good for you!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Good evening :)

Pamela~I sent you a PM about whale watching. I know that is completely off topic and weird, but I thought you may have some insight.

DH and I were thinking of driving to Maine to take the kids on a whale watching trip this summer. If anyone has ever been, feel free to share everything you know! There's a ton of different companies/trips and leaving from all different locations, so I'm a tad overwhelmed!

I spent a very lazy day not doing much today. I graded a ton of papers and recorded them and did MORE laundry, so I guess it wasn't completely wasted. But, I did not work out, so I am getting ready to pack my gym bag for tomorrow so I can go right after work. I may have eaten way too much Turtle Chex Mix, so I better get back on track first thing tomorrow!

I'm off to get DSs ready for bed. We have a school dress code and tomorrow they can pay $1 to wear jeans and a regular shirt. They are supposed to wear pink since the money collected is being raised for breast cancer, but DSs do not have a pink shirt in this house. So, we need to actually think about what they are going to wear tomorrow. It's pretty exciting :rotfl2:

Have a great night and a great start to your week tomorrow!

Jill

QOTD 1/27/14 I have been trying all weekend to figure out how to ask this question. How are you dressing/taking care of yourself? Are you presenting yourself positively to the world or letting yourself go until you get skinny? Makeup? Hair? Clothes?

Which reminds me for those of you doing the Princess there is a WISH meet at 5 p.m. Saturday, 2/22/14 by the Earl of Sandwich in DTD. Lisa (liesel) and I will be scream teaming by the Boardwalk. WISHers do meet at the W tent before and especially after the race. Busy day but I plan to do replies tonight. Have a super Monday!

I do take care of my appearance. I have a cute short haircut that is easy to do and wear makeup and jewelry every day. My clothes fit and my old baggy clothes are gone. I'm not particularly fashionable but I do try to maintain a professional appearance, not just for me, but I have found that the worse I look, the more people I will run into that I know. :rotfl:

This is one of the things that is so important for us to do every day -- especially days when we don't feel our best. Not just for our appearance but for EVERYTHING. Do not wait until you are at goal weight to start living the life you want, live the life you want NOW. :hippie:

I'm with you 100% on the want to "snuggle down" after work every day! Good for you for pushing through it!

We like just walking around or sitting on benches and people watching. I have done my mile for the day at MK and Epcot several times. And we love, love, love walking around the lake at BW/BC and between OKW and SSR. If I can find airfare cheap enough we might go for a long weekend in March just to enjoy the sun. I don't think I could stand to be there without park tickets. It kind of killed me to ride the monorail this past November..... that said, I loved our time at DTD (as brief as it was) and it would have been great to plan to watch Wishes from the Poly beach of something like that.

Happy birthday to DS! Plans definitely are the place to start for getting back on track.

Yup..... back on track YESTERDAY! :) I managed to reel things in and get back on track and start back to lower carb eating a day earlier than planned! Proud of myself for saying NO to the birthday cake.... although I'll admit I'm not a big cake fan, so it wasn't too hard. Planned breakfast for today is consumed, planned snack is next! :thumbsup2

DH and I were thinking of driving to Maine to take the kids on a whale watching trip this summer. If anyone has ever been, feel free to share everything you know! There's a ton of different companies/trips and leaving from all different locations, so I'm a tad overwhelmed!

Maine is totally delightful and beautiful! I presume you are thinking mostly about the coastline. Lots to see and do, even without a guided tour. The coastline varies from rough and rocky to smooth and sandy, depending on where you are.... but the water is ALWAYS freezing! For one kind of "vintage" fun day, try Old Orchard Beach.... great beach, lots of waves, and a fun amusement park right there on the beach. Sure it is very commercial but depending on the ages of your kids, they might love it! I took DS there a few years ago for our Mother/Son weekend and he had a ball! Kept going back and forth between riding rides and playing in the waves. Plus we took a ferris wheel ride together at sunset and saw the huge length of the beach.... amazing! I'll share pictures if you would like to see one or two!

Of course, are things to do inland like Kittery Trading Post and LL Bean if you want shopping.

Popham Beach is another beautiful spot with an old Fort there on the beach. Quiet, off the beaten path, and lovely. Lots of great fishing.

Sounds like a productive day, not a lazy day!

Jill

Sounds like a fun day for the kids! I love jeans day at my school too!

QOTD 1/27/14 I have been trying all weekend to figure out how to ask this question. How are you dressing/taking care of yourself? Are you presenting yourself positively to the world or letting yourself go until you get skinny? Makeup? Hair? Clothes?

Well... when I was heavier I was definitely MORE picky about my make-up. I guess I figured if there wasn't anything appealing BELOW the neck, then the face had better be good!

Now I relax a bit more about my make-up routine, although I rarely go out without ANY make-up. I've never been "big" on nails or fancy hair... pretty much go natural there. But that is just my taste (and budget) rather than a statement about my thought about myself.

Now clothes is a whole different thing! When I was heavy and started working, I literally had 2-3 pairs of pants that fit (one beige, one brown, one black) and were work appropriate and I wore them a LOT! ::yes:: Never a skirt or dress (I didn't even OWN a skirt or dress). Same with shoes for work.... owned two pairs of black and a pair of brown.... that was it. I had a few tops for winter and few for spring and a few scarves and pins and just kept rotating. BORING.... and it went this way from the fall of 2004 when I started working, until the spring of 2008, when I had lost some weight and was able to buy some new stuff! Now I have too many clothes!! And it is FUN to buy clothes.... even pants and skirts! I've even recently broken my 20-year-standing house rule about only owning as many clothes as can fit in your closet (exception being winter gear). I put in an extra closet rod in the basement a few winters ago and now rotate a lot of my stuff as it goes off season! Sure, I have too much.... but it feels so good!!

Now all of that being said.... I kind of wish I had taken better care of myself when I was heavier. I might have felt better about myself wearing something prettier that fit well rather than just "getting by".
********************

Morning all! Already broke my rule for today that I would be off the computer by 9:30. DH needed some help with some stuff before he left for Maine, so that ate into my schedule.... so time to revise today's schedule!

On today's schedule is TM time, posting stuff for sale on the computer, laundry (always), and getting ready for my "Simple Start" certification tomorrow morning. If there is any time left after that I plan to clean out under my bed! :scared1: Far too much CRAP residing there with the dust bunnies!

BB at lunch time to chat!................P

That was a nice present for your DS, Pamela! :cool2: Sounds like he had a great birthday. ::yes::

He did enjoy his low-key weekend celebrations.... but I forgot to give him his gift last night! :lmao: His Galaxy gear watch that he got with his phone in December was his big birthday gift, but I also have another. I'll give it to him Tuesday night when DH is here.

Maintaining is a win at this stage of 1/2 marathon training, Buffy! :woohoo: In just a few short weeks you will be sporting that beautiful bling! princess:

WOOHOO for bling!!

I will be wearing my WISH shirt at the Expo, the 5k, scream teaming and during the 1/2 so if you see me don't be shy and say hello! :cool2:

Wish I could be there with you to SCREAM!! :cool1:

I do take care of my appearance. I have a cute short haircut that is easy to do and wear makeup and jewelry every day. My clothes fit and my old baggy clothes are gone. I'm not particularly fashionable but I do try to maintain a professional appearance, not just for me, but I have found that the worse I look, the more people I will run into that I know. :rotfl:

Isn't that always the way!!??

This is one of the things that is so important for us to do every day -- especially days when we don't feel our best. Not just for our appearance but for EVERYTHING. Do not wait until you are at goal weight to start living the life you want, live the life you want NOW. :hippie:

AMEN!!

Happy Monday all!

And Happy Monday right back to you my friend!!

*****************

Off to be productive!!.................P

Lisa I just checked my ADR's and we are free for the meet up Friday!! I don't have a WISH shirt :( but I'm sure I can figure something out. I'll go buy a lime green shirt if I have to.

I hope I get the bling!!! I'm so nervous, it's not funny.

I did get 11 miles in Friday though, and even though I had to walk the last 2 miles (blister and bum knee) I still maintained a 14:04 pace. I just hope it's enough.

Sorry I have been MIA lately.

I went to DL last weekend and ran the Tinker Bell Half Marathon. I even managed a PR! :cool1: The trip was all too brief and I am right back into our busy schedule. Plus my mom is here! I did make my goal for the month and am right back into training for the Princess next month. I am excited to go earn my coast to coast medal. :thumbsup2 I will be catching up here, I hope everyone is well.

Edit: And I registered for Dumbo this August at DL while I was still sore from Tink. I'm trying to decide if I am crazy or dedicated. The Dumbo Double Dare was tough (mostly because of the extreme heat and humidity) and I was an exhausted wreck afterwards. By the next day I wanted to go do it all over again!

Just wanted to say congrats on Tink! You must feel fabulous! And it will be even better after the Princess and your C2C. I have been lurking on the Princess thread and reading a lot of running reports here as a very beginning runner with a goal to run the 2015 Princess. You guys are so inspiring! Keep it up!:cheer2:

Hi all! Sorry for being MIA all weekend. It is not a good time right now. :(

My heat in my apartment is so inconsistent and no one can seem to figure out why. Its NYC so no rebates on the days without heat, and honestly, I'm broke. I can't buy a space heater because I can't afford the electricity bills.

The worst part of it all is that my company is very slow right now, meaning that the chances of my salary getting raised anytime in the next 9 months is incredibly low.

Right now, its getting me SO down. I'm trying so hard to stay strong, and I really have been very good about not indulging in comfort food during this time. But, here I am, 10 pounds lesser than when I started, and I haven't purchased new clothing in YEARS. I haven't needed to, but now, I'm so bundled up under all my layers to keep warm, and everything is big on me.

I guess I just need to get up the courage to quit my job and find something new. If only my father wasn't the boss of the company... :(

aaaaand end rant!

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, I am trying to take pride in the NSV of not eating my feelings, but I just needed to vent a bit.

In fact, on Friday, instead of going out to an Italian restaurant, I offered to cook for my friend. Some whole wheat pasta and store bought sauce meant I knew exactly what I was eating, and I could eat exactly the portion I wanted to - and have leftovers for this week! It was a good move on our part!

BBL with replies and some daily holidays!

Attempting to send with formatting from my phone so forgive me if this looks funny.
Busy day but I plan to do replies tonight. Have a super Monday!

hey everyone - just a quick fly by today - I am soo BUSY at work! but I wanted to check in.. I just pm'd my weight to Lisa which was down about a lb.. so that was good.. On Wednesday afternoon I signed up for my at work WW program.. we get our materials and do our first WI on Wednesday - I will be swaping to a traditional meeting on Sat am's as I love that Leader.. Hubs and I made it to they gym on Tues (me for Zumba/he worked out) and on Wed (I got a strength plan- holy ouchie!!/he just worked out on the machines again) we had planned Thurs as well but when we got home Wed we had no water -- part of our pipe doesn't have heat tape apparently so now in 20 or less degree weather we leave the cold water dripping as to not have that happen again.. We plan on going to the gym Tues, Wed and Fri this week..

QotD -- well tough one, I do now wear clothing that fit for the most part - not loose baggy stuff.. I do not wear make up but then I never did before either.. I do blowdry and curl my hair everyday (if not then I look like this when i get up :clown: haa) I guess my style has changed slightly .

Hugs to everyone that needs one.. Michelle
