Get in Shape & Lose Weight for August 2014 Group

Aggggghhhh I've really fallen off the wagon! I think I've actually gone backwards over the last month. So I have 15 days until Disney. Of that I think I should be able to exercise 14 of those. IF I really try. Today is the test. I have to see if I fit into my swim suit or not. :scared: I don't want to have to go swim suit shopping right now. My DD had her birthday last week, the party was Saturday, I only had 1 slice of cake, but I've had roughly 6 rice crispy treats. But really, I can handle that. The issue is I don't feel well, my muscles are tight, and my back is sore. I need to get back to taking care of me. I will be held accountable. I will do something everyday. I plan to have a solid workout each day and then I'm sure I'll at least feel like my body will be able to handle the pace of a Disney trip. And at 35*C today I think I can use the heat to practice for FL too! :thumbsup2 I can do it!

My muscles are real achy too. I've got 5 days til the trip. LOL :) maybe I can loose another ounce or two. Seriously, I'm so ready for this trip. I think all the walking while there is going to be great. And I'm actually looking forward to continuing once I get back.

Life is so so hectic right now, it make it difficult to find time to devote to actually working out. But I did manage a small work-out yesterday, and a slightly, very slightly, longer one today. I'm still hoping to get more done today.

Achey muscles suck. :worried:

I've only worked out a few days a week for the past couple of weeks, but I'm determined to use the fitness center at AKV next week every morning. I'm the only early riser, so I'll head down there and alternate between the treadmill and strength training. I've never stayed at AKV before, but I hear there's even more walking than the Boardwalk, depending on where your room is!

I am really curious to see how many steps I walk in the parks. I'm still wearing my FitBit, so I can track it this trip.

I bought two new sports bras at the Champion outlet store. I wanted some with a racer back style, but still extra firm support for my girls. I have some cute racer back tank tops that I couldn't wear running because my supportive running bras have regular straps.

Making healthy food choices will be the toughest thing for me this trip. I plan on having healthy breakfasts in the room (cereal, yogurt, fruit) and bringing high protein snacks with me to the parks (almonds, string cheese, etc.). All bets are off after that LOL!!

Thanks to all of you for the support, it really helped knowing I wasn't all by myself on this journey!

I would join in on another support thread with you ladies, for sure!

Awesome plan! AKV is the only resort that actually had DH and I thinking it might be 'fun' to workout on vacation. The fitness centre has so many windows looking out over the swimming/splash area, but so much green that you'd hardly notice. We loved it there! Can hardly wait to go back!

Another small work out done today. Something is better than nothing.

Just wanted to share we're having a great first day!

Glad to hear it. :)

Our flight left Manchester, NH at 7:10a and was suppose to be at the gate in Orlando by 10:20a. We arrived at the gate by 9:50a. A job well done by the pilot. Retrieved our luggage but had a stupid moment when one of our bags went around and around because we were all looking for a orange and black Pom Pom that wasn't even on it, just on our other 2 bags. LOL

Picked up the rental car with no fuss and found a Publix to get some supplies. Made it to Pop Century by 11:30a and was in our room by noon. Our next step was to get something to eat at AoA but we had to wait out a thunderstorm. Finally ate and made it back to our room before another thunderstorm went through. Once the rain tapered off we went to DTD and now we are back to rest up for our first park day tomorrow. Hoping to get some pool time when it stops dripping out.

Did you like AOA? We trekked over there yesterday to eat and I prefer the choices at Pop's food court.

ddc4d Glad your first day went well. Our flight landed ahead if time too. BWV is really nice. Walking to Epcot and the boat to there and DHS are all I hoped. So far, I'm really happy with the decision to rent points. I don't think that I would do it full price, but I can see why people do :) We went to DHS and did what we planned this morning. We're resting now and will swim in a little bit. We're trying to decide which park to hit this afternoon. Hope others are having a good time too.

Sounds great! I'd love to try to rent points one time!

I'd have a tough time paying full price for any room at Disney. Except for the one small problem: I'm addicted! :scratching :wave2: HI, my name's Sarah and it's been too long since my last fix. Though luckily I've managed to find a pretty decent discount every time. SO - I just did the math. :teacher: It would seem that over the course of the last 7.5 years we've spent roughly $50,000 at Disney. :faint:

Wow. Frightening. As a fellow teacher I am so sad I can never attend MNSSHP- but the Mickey math you just did provided enough Boo to you entertainment for me :)

My husband loves it, me it's just OK. If it wasn't so darn hot out we'd probably eat there a couple more times just to shake things up. I've had a few things at Pop that I like and many more that I haven't been able to try yet.

So I've been home for a few days and finally got a handle on the laundry. My husband and I have been going over our trip and we've both come to the conclusion that we will never go to Disney World in August again. We just couldn't tour the World the way we like to with the heat being what it was. Temps near 100 with a real feel near 106! Not for me.

FP+ worked well for us. My husband didn't have many problems with the MDE app and when he did he'd open up the full website instead. For some reason my iPod could not get any website to open up whole I was in the parks. Good thing DH had his.

The worst day of our trip consisted of two instances. 1. The morning we rope dropped DHS. When we went last year the CMs would let you through the tap stations into the park and you just walked to whatever ride you wanted to do and got in line. Worked great because how quickly you got there was based on where you were in line. Made getting to TSMM fairly simple. Now they are back to grouping everyone up but near the big hat so you can see Olaf on a big screen which means hundreds of people are pushing, shoving and rolling over you to fit through that teeny tiny arch to get to Toy Story. I was scared! Had my foot rolled ver by a stroller but was very thankful it wasn't the EVC I saw. I can only imagine what it felt like as a little kid. I got separated from my family it was so bad. 2. We spent the afternoon in the pool after spending another morning at DHS and eating at the Sci-Fi for lunch. My son tried the hamburger with a hot dog on it. That evening we went to MK but had to leave because the poor kid ended up having stomach issues. Not sure if it was the burger or the pool water he accidentally swallowed. Probably a little of both. Poor thing.

Over all we enjoyed the rides. (I will say that Mine Train is over rated for the length of time you stand it line for such a short experience. Would have been better if it could have been longer.) My DS13 went on some rides for the first time that he had been scared to try as a younger kid so that was fun to see.

Having the pool time was good but there were days that you couldn't even sit by it and enjoy a drink because it was so hot.

We were so done by the end of our trip and I think we are Disneyed out for a while. I had planned on doing the Run Disney Tower of Terror 10 Miler in October of 2015 but now I'm not sure. I might push that off until 2016. I've got until Feb to decide. Of course that is unless my husband follows through on his recently discussed plan of heading to the Tampa area to spend a week at the beach at the end of February. Then we'd use our money towards that.

On a good note, I didn't gain much from all the goodies I ate while at Disney. Just a couple of pounds that I am now working on. Went for my first run since before the trip on Tuesday. What an event that was. Didn't go very far and had to walk some. I figured at least it was something.

I hope you all had or are having good trips! :)

Loved reading your report!

I have not weighed myself an with getting my classroom ready I have not had motivation to start working out again- it's been about a month between the trip and packing. Ugh.

Thanks for the reports. I agree, this august trip was fun but the weather really kicked our buts! We still had fun but went early, rested/swam midday, and sometimes toured again later. The two times we were homeless because of the split stays, we really felt it and were wiped by check in.

I plan I writing a trip report and will post a link here if you're interested.

Our next trip will be summer 2016 either same time in August or mid June. It'll be for my DD graduating high school. Because she'll start college that fall, we may do June to keep August open to get everything done for that. I'm worried it'll be just as hot but more expensive and crowded, though, so we will see. Either way, I don't think I'll every schedule things so we get home after 11 pm on a Sunday and start work Monday morning. That was a killer this past week! Have not exercised at all; not enough energy for that.

Has anyone found another thread to try for getting in shape? Would love to keep up with you guys...

Hi I just found this thread and was reading through it. Wish I had gotten on this sooner. Just came back from 3 weeks in the World (with one of them being on a Disney Cruise). And now want to lose the weight I put on from the trip as well as the weight I didn't finish losing before I went! Got 45 lbs more to go!

Been back a week and I have found the weather harder to handle here then when I was in Disney...:rotfl2: Maybe I just lilked where I was better:hyper:

I actually didn`t really gain weight while in DW but then again that could be cuz I sweated it out...:cloud9: I found the heat brutal but knew that going in so did half days mostly and more pool time but you could always tell when every one was getting back as the pool attendance doubled in size.

My hip did give me some trouble but was happy not to have to rent a scotter or wheel chair as I would stop and rest..my feet were worse which is typical too.

I need to get back to working out so treadclimber here I come but also thinking of doing some swimming to help the hip.

We could start another thread calling it Disney After Weight...lol

Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip and you're hip cooperated.

I had one night where something happened to my bum knee. (The one I needed PT for about 4 months for last year.) I twisted it or something; could see a bump on the outside of the joint. Anyway, I used my frozen margarita pouch for an ice pack :) and then was very careful the next day or so.

There is a thread about getting in shape for a 2015 trip we could crash :) ... or I could change this one to: getting in shape and losing weight before and after august 2014. LOL. Keep it going forever. I still have 20-30 lbs or 2 dress sizes I'd love to drop by next summer. I haven't gotten back to my workout since I got back. Could really use our support group here :)
