The Single Girl's Guide to Doing WDW Solo - A Sept. 2014 Trip Report (COMPLETED)

OK – so let me just say this – I am love love LOVING your report!!!!! I just started reading it tonight and am all caught up – more than once (ok more than a few times) I caught myself just smiling ear to ear! I love your excitement and enthusiasm! You’re also giving me a ton of confidence, you see I booked my first-ever SOLO trip for this December, I’ve been plenty of times before, but never solo and as excited as I am the nerves are definitely there too! But I LOVE your report so far and can’t wait to keep reading along! Thanks so much for sharing! :thumbsup2
I had those EXACT same "jitters" leading up to this trip! Honestly, if you haven't already, spend some time on the Solo & Adult Travelers board here! I chatted with and read posts from so many seasoned Soloists, and they REALLY helped me with my questions and worries. Reading TRs from Solo travelers helped a TON too, so I'm VERY glad that you're here following along on mine! You're going to have an absolutely WONDERFUL time on your trip, I can promise you that!!

Just caught up and it sounds like you are having a blast! The tiara is great and that's so fun you saw La Nouba! I love the Cirque du Soleil shows! :)

Aww, thanks! It really was a super trip, I had a fantastic time!

Hopefully bringing another update ya'lls way this weekend! :thumbsup2

I will be patiently waiting!!! :)

I'd love to stay at AOA. Someday hopefully! But really my dream is to take a trip down to Food and Wine and stay at Boardwalk Villas (renting DVC points). That is definitely happening! That way when the boys (or just boy if it's an adults trip) can sleep and I can do food and wine! And it would be so close!

Love THE TIARA! You need a display case for it. You could keep it in sight but it would not get dusty.

We definitely need to try Raglan Road. We’ve never eaten there. I’m the only one in the family that likes seafood. The rest can eat dessert while I have a meal!

I went to Magic Kingdom by myself when my daughter was at a nearby science camp. I liked to rub it in that I was at Disney while she had to work. A little role reversal! I really enjoyed myself. I’m not sure how well I would do over several days but it was so relaxing to roam around or rush around depending on how I felt and what I wanted to do.

I enjoy your writing style and look forward to the next installment! I hope you’re not too busy this weekend to put up a posting. I’m not impatient at all, really! ::yes::

I have failed you! :sad1:

I'm in kind of a Disney funk. I don't know why. :sad2: I haven't been reading the Trip Reports here I'm subscribed to, or even updating my own. One month ago today I was spending my last day in the parks, a full day at Magic Kingdom. I think maybe post-Disney depression has finally caught up to me, despite my best efforts to stave it off! :confused3

I'll try to do better! I really do want to complete this TR and my Dining Report too, so they don't just become more unfinished reports floating around out there on the boards. :rolleyes1

A display case! I wonder how much that would cost, and where I would put it! It sure would be nice to still see it every day, though. Hmm!

Raglan Road is much more than seafood! Take a look at my entree, it was an all non-seafood meatstravaganza! :lmao: Here's their menu, they have a huge variety! http://allears.net/dining/menu/raglan-road/dinner

Solo is the way to go, man. It'll probably be 2017 before I'm able to go solo again, but honestly, I can't wait! It was really great to just come and go as I pleased without any discussion. I loved it. :thumbsup2

Everything about this TR is so cute!!!! I love the tiara!!!!

And I'm in a bit of a Disney funk too, I must confess :( I miss The World so much. I think I'm planning a graduation trip next year though. Just remember that you're always one day closer to the next WDW vacation :)

Welcome! :wave2: So glad you're here!

One month ago today, I was headed home from Disney. I told myself I wouldn't let the post-WDW blues catch up to me this time, but it appears that they have. I'm going to try hard to push through and do some more updating tonight, though! :thumbsup2

Only 402 more days until I'm back! :surfweb:

Can you believe it's been a month since you've been home? :( we've been home just over a month as well and I got the post disney blues too! So much so that I talked my DH Into surprising my DD ( who will be 17 in April) with a trip to Disneyland for her birthday. Ok, ok, maybe it's for me too, but hey I'll use her birthday as an excuse to go anytime! My two older kids have never been to DL so I'm excited to see what they think of it compared to DW. Only 5 1/2 months to go!!! :). Trip reports like yours is what keeps me going so get back to work!!!! ;). Seriously though, I love reading your posts ..you are a talented and funny writer and reading your reports always put a smile on my face. :)

I'm so happy that I found this TR! I'm planning a solo trip, less than 3 weeks away - I can't wait to catch up and read all about your fabulous trip! You go, girl! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

Loving your TR I'm going solo and I like reading everyone's solo Tr to see how many things you can do in one day. :)

Aww, that's very sweet of you to say! Thank you for the encouragement. I've resolved that I WILL finish this TR by Sunday. I only have 3 days left to cover! Going to work on the next update after I do these replies. :thumbsup2

DAY 7 - Part 1
Sept. 26th, 2014 - Friday

Animal Kingdom

I woke up in my usual fashion this morning... Late.

fmFdiIu271XTq.gif

But not TOO late, of course. I rolled out of bed and nommed on a danish and some coffee while getting ready to go for the day. And then I was off to Animal Kingdom!

As I got was scootin' along from my room to the bus stop, I noticed that, once again... My battery didn't charge. I was only on about half-power for a full day of park touring.

Really? SERIOUSLY???

KBKUi5KdT6nNC.gif

That's twice now, and two different outlets. I decide it must be a problem with the charger, but I certainly don't want to delay starting my day any longer. I went ahead and caught the bus to Animal Kingdom. On the way, I called the rental company, explained what was going on, and they said no problem, they would bring a new scooter to me at AK, the driver would call me when he got there so we could meet up. Hooray!

With that problem taken care of, I was off to begin my WILD day! My wild... overcast... day. That's right, it was shaping up to be another rainy one.

But ONWARD! Stopped for photo ops, of course...

Yep, still with the tiara on!

Normally I bee-line it over to Kilimanjaro Safaris, but I had a FP+ a short while later. So on this morning, I decided to mix it up and I headed first over to Expedition Everest to take advantage of the Single Rider line. As I entered Asia, my phone rang. It was the scooter company's driver, he was in the park. So we arranged to meet in front of where the queue is for Everest. I didn't have to wait long before he rode up a newer, shinier model for me! SWEET!

3SOK4Vm1TWHV6.gif

After the trade-off, I was entering the Single Rider line. If you've ever done Single Rider for this one, then you know that that you basically detour around 90% of the regular queue. Which for the most part is awesome! But I can't lie, I do love the queue for Everest. It's so interesting and beautiful and immersive!

I didn't cry though when I got to the front of the Single Rider queue, and found out I was the first person to use it that morning. I literally walked RIGHT onto the ride with zero waiting. Woot! I was actually seated next to another Solo, too! Poor thing had went all the way through the regular line, though... She didn't know about the Single Rider queue! So I quickly told her about what other rides in the four parks have Single Rider lines. After that, there wasn't much time for talking, just screaming...

LOVE THIS RIDE. Loooooove love love!!!

Afterwards, I hopped back on my shiny new scooter and headed over to one of my most favorite parts of Animal Kingdom, the Maharaja Jungle Trek!

I was struck this time by how surprisingly CROWDED it was. To the extent that me on my scooter was having an extremely difficult time getting close enough to see anything. People, children and adults alike, kept swarming in front of me like I wasn't even there. Many times I simply couldn't move at all, lest I hurt somebody. Very frustrating.

I finally got to the highlight of the Trek for me, though... The tigers. I love the tigers. I can sit and watch them for hours. Sadly, this wasn't one of those days. There were all hiding or sleeping. I caught a glimpse of one passed out against a wall, just under a viewing window, but that was about it. Bummer! Not to mention that the people swarming the windows and crowding walking right in front of my ECV, and basically not giving a rat's furry butthole about me being there and trying to enjoy the exhibit too, made it impossible for me to get close enough to see anyhow. Sigh.

After that disappointment, and the frustration and stress of trying to maneuver amongst all those people, I decided it was time for a pick-me-up... So I headed over to Dinoland for my first FastPass of the Day... DINOSAUR!

This is one, because of the stairs, I go through most of the regular queue and pre-show, then take an elevator down to the loading platform. When I got down there, a few other ECV and wheelchair users were waiting, so I just sort hung back out of the way. It was neat just watching the anticipation on people's faces as the loaded up in the ride vehicles. I like people-watching. :)

Then it was my turn, and into my Time Rover I went!

AK_DINOSAURRIDE_7058075797.jpeg

This picture cracks me up. Everybody else is like "Oh, hello scary dino." And I'm like, "HEY BUDDY! WHADDUP! I AIN'T SEEN YOU IN AGES! HOW YOU BEEN?!"

By this time my ADR for Tusker House was getting close, to I made my way through DinoLand and back over to Africa. (I should note that the construction walls EVERYWHERE really confused the crap out of me during certain points.) I made it a couple minutes early, and hung out in the Dawa Bar while I waited. I thought about ordering a cocktail, but it was only 10:10am. Was neat to just hang out and watch and take it easy, though.

10 minutes later or so I went up to the podium and checked in, and was lead back to the entrance of the restaurant. Man, this place is hidden! I saw the PhotoPass photographers hanging out where I read that they used to take your photo with Donald. Now it's just you and the wall, which seemed kinda silly to me... But whatever, let's do it!

AK_TUSKER1_7058101592.jpeg

Why do I always put my arms behind my back like that for photos? I think it's because I don't know what to do with them otherwise. I'll have to be more conscious about that next time!

Okay, so then it was breakfast time! I was lead to a table that gave me a good vantage point of when the characters were coming, so I could be ready for them. Daisy was up first, before I even got my food! I noticed that she had a handler (unlike the characters at Garden Grill), who were totally open to snapping photos for people! YAY! I instantly relaxed, knowing I wouldn't have the stress of worrying about finding somebody to take pics for me.

20140926_103618-1.jpg

Then I went for my first plate, and got back just in time for Donald!

20140926_104319-1.jpg

Mickey and Goofy weren't too far behind him!

20140926_105738-1.jpg

20140926_105526-1.jpg

I think Goofy's handler was hittin' the Dawa Bar before her shift.

Food pics can be found on my Dining Report HERE!

I lingered for a while, as I had read that they start bringing out the lunch offerings at 11:00am, and I wanted to sample some of them. But at 11:20am, they were refreshing the breakfast items. And when I finally gave up and left at 11:30am, it was still all breakfast stuff. :confused3

No worries, though! Time for my FP+ for Kilimanjaro Safaris! Sadly, the animals were being super shy. I think they were hiding out from the impending rainy doom, too! I did get a few photos, though...

20140926_114721.jpg

Afterwards, per my usual routine, I attempted to do the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail, but it was just.... confusing. They have you going in the exit now, then turning around at some point and back out the way you came. You miss a LOT of it. I got to see some gorillas though, so it was worth the trip! But I'll definitely be glad when all the refurbs are done and it's back to normal.

Then, also per my usual, I then headed over to catch the Harambe Express out to Rafiki's Planet Watch and Conservation Station. I love it out here. The veterinary clinic rooms are always fascinating, even though there were no procedures happening today. I spent a bit of time wandering and exploring and checking out all the different things... Well, almost all. I skipped the bugs and creepy crawlies. No thank you!

As I was leaving, I spotted a PhotoPass photographer! She asked me what my favorite animal is, and I told her Tiger. So she told me to give her my best tiger impression!

AK_RPWCOURTYARD1CHARACTER_7058263616.jpeg

AK_RPWCOURTYARD1CHARACTER_7058263614.jpeg

On the train back to Harambe Station, I could feel myself dragging. I had hit my mid-day slump, and hit it hard. I still had two more must-do's left, though! FPs for both Kali River Rapids, and Festival of the Lion King in the new indoor theatre. I got off the train and just as I was trying to pep-talk myself into some more energy... the skies opened up. I pulled on my poncho and found shelter, but I had to admit defeat. With a heavy heart I tried to convince myself that it's okay not to be able to do EVERYTHING, and that it was time to head back to the room. So that's what I did, I rolled through the rain back to the bus stop, and made my way back to Pop Century for the nap my body was demanding!

Up Next... Hollywood Studios (Chapter 2)!

Yay! An update!

I love that you're still wearing the tiara - I hope you wore it the whole trip!

I don't know what to do with my arms for picures either ... a lot of times I put them on my hips or in my pockets (which actually makes for a pretty weird picture). And I love your safari pictures!

I hate when rain shortens your day, but sometimes you just need to call it quits! The plus side of the rain is that it "forced" you to take that much-needed nap.

I'm looking forward to reading more!

DAY 7 - Part 2
Sept. 26th, 2014 - Friday

Hollywood Studios (Chapter 2)

After the much-needed rest, I got up and headed back out. My destination this evening? Back to Hollywood Studios, to catch Fantasmic AND Frozen Fireworks!

But first... DINNER! While there earlier in the week, as I stood in line at Fairfax Fare for my turkey leg lunch, I saw something on the menu I just had to try. I normally wouldn't visit a QS place like this twice in one trip, but I couldn't resist...

20140926_192158-1-1.jpg

Macaroni and Cheese, Bacon, and Truffle Oil Hot Dog. It was soooo worth the return trip, it was absolutely delicious!

9dTzXZY6qncBO.gif

After dinner, I headed over to the Hollywood Hills Ampitheatre to catch Fantasmic! I was lead to an wheelchair/ECV section, and the view wasn't too bad! I tried to take photos, but as usual, my camera just hates night stuff. But here's my best attempts!

20140926_215851-1.jpg

Afterwards, I lingered for a bit, letting the place clear out rather than fighting the stampede with my scooter. I think I was on of the last people to leave, actually. Yet somehow, I still managed to score a pretty sweet spot for the fireworks!

20140926_201757.jpg

I had managed to park myself next to a very nice couple and their little girl. The wife was super interested in my tiara, she kept asking me all about where I got it, how much they cost, etc. Hehe. Made me happy.

princess.gif_480_480_0_64000_0_1_0.gif

Then the fireworks began, hooray!

I was really glad I stayed for them, they were really lovely! By the time I go back the whole Frozen fever at HS will have died down so I'm sure these won't still be going on. I'm glad I took advantage of the opportunity.

As usual, I lingered and let the crowd thin before trying to make my way out of the park and to the bus stops. I kinda like doing this, though. I boarded my bus and headed back to Pop Century, dreading what was awaiting me when I got back to my room.

For this, friends, was my last night at Pop. :sad1: Though I had a couple more days left, I took advantage of another off-property hotel I could stay in for my final night, so that's where I would be headed.

I got back the room and took one more gloriously long shower, then set about gathering my things and packing up what I wouldn't need for the next morning.

This all put me going to bed rather late, and I fell right to a deep delightful sleep after another long Disney day!

That's one of the reasons I like magic shots so much... They give me specific instructions on what to do with my confused arms. :rotfl:

I didn't just wear the tiara the rest of the trip... I wore it all the way home, and to work my first day back. :lmao:

Yeah, I did take the rain as a sign that I needed to take that afternoon break. Was still a bummer, though!! Oh well, I'll just have to make those things top priority for my trip next year! :goodvibes

I am so jealous of you getting to ride Splash Mountain in your own log! I am gonna hustle over there during a parade or fireworks and see if I can make that happen - awesome! Besides Tower of Terror, Splash is my favorite!!!

I'm curious - for BTMRR, when you said you wanted the faster part, did the CMs put you in the back?

I hear ya on the PhotoPass people. When I did my first solo trip earlier this year, I had more of an issue with finding photographers, or at least getting them to notice me and take my photo. I think I only ended up getting 1 taken, at the end of the day in AK, and the photographer clearly wasn't interested - I had to ask. :sad2:

I'm all caught up - what a terrific trip you had! And good for you for going to a character dinner by yourself! I'm debating if I want to make ADRs or just wing it while I'm there, especially since it's only for 4 days. I may make 1 ADR at least. :)

I can't choose one all-over favorite. But Splash Mountain is my favorite in MK, and Tower of Terror is my favorite in HS. :thumbsup2

They sure did! It was great! ::yes::

What is UP with that?! What does it even matter to them if it's a family or a couple or a solo?! :confused3 Isn't it their job to give EVERY guest an amazing Disney experience?

I'm a big fan of Disney food! Solo or not, I'll always have ADRs each day! YUM!!! :goodvibes

Great update! I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt lost because of the walls at AK. They made the park feel crowded and I kept losing my bearings. I really hope they are all gone by next summer, because I love AK but it was definitely not as enjoyable this trip. (The downpour didn't help either.)

First i have to comment on the Hot dog. man alive did it look DELISH!!!

Great to hear the rental company brought you a shiney new scooter! YAY!

Love all your pictures as usual. love the tiara! YOU ROCK IT!

Geesh! you went from one end of AK to the other no wonder you were tired! and we love Tusker house for breakfast!!! LOVE! Everest is one of our favorites too!!!

Any ride is one of our favorites... :rotfl2:

your doing a great job on your TR!
