New Boards questions- NOTE DATE CHANGE

I am playing with our new forums and there are a few "user profile" things I need to let you know about to manage your expectations.

I'll post some screenshots today.

- Avatars: If you uploaded your current avatar yourself, it will be moved to the new forums as is. If you currently have an avatar that you selected from our "select an avatar" list, that will not move over and you will need upload a new one. If you really love the preselected one you have, I'll try to make those available for you to download and upload.

- Smilies: For the first week, smilies will not show up in the posts. We will be transferring these one by one. Yes, one by one! Give us some time on these. So, your little dancing guy will dance again - I promise.

- Signatures: From what I see, those moved over fine. They will not be visible in mobile and non-members (not signed in) will not see them.

User Titles: I know, you love your colorful text that blinks and shoots fireworks off the screen, but that's going to change. You will be limited to the amount of text characters you can include. The Tag Ferry is going to hate this but I'll try to work on something new for her/him.

This might sound like we are ruining your world, in some ways, but think of it as moving to a bigger and better house. Usually, not all your current furniture will fit the style you are going for.

Thank you for your quick reply and I really appreciate your positive feedback regarding my threads.

I may regret asking this, but do I need to, gulp, copy those 50 pages of raw data? I assume the raw posting data will remain unchanged, however, the final product may just need some minor tweaking?

I am so excited!!

I am using another forum that is running on xenforo and my favorite feature is that the forum remembers which posts in a thread I have read even if I log in three times before I return to the thread. Here on the DIS after a certain amount of time after logging in all my unread threads will be turned into read threads. Any chance that that will change with the new software. It would make using the DIS soooo much easier!!

Oh - and will be get the feature to "like" posts???

I know I am rather greedy, but I am so excited to get something more modern to use for the DIS - and something that is easy to use from a mobile device!

Perhaps we could zero everyone's post count when the new boards go live That would stop all the questions/comments my post count is not right and I am sure would make for a fun Sunday afternoon

Thank you for keeping us up to date and apprising us of forthcoming changes to the DIS. I feel honored to be a very small part of such a wonderful forum for anyone seeking information about Disney Resorts. And, rest assured, Alex's world won't be ruined by any changes to his tag or avatar and that's one less thing for the overworked Tag Fairy to worry about

Is the upcoming change what's causing the DISboards to run so slow in the last 2 days?

When I click to open a thread (on any of the boards) it's taking up to a minute to open some of them.

Let me clarify this just a bit. Some of you may remember a number of years ago we moved from other software and the post count did not come over. We manually adjusted a lot of stuff. The software is going to recalculate your post count and you will end up with the number of actual posts you have on the board, not your previous count

I'm about as un-techy as they come, but I loves me some DIS boards! My question is in regard to the mobile version. For a few months now I have not been able to access the DIS from my phone. When I click to open the app it acts like it's going to open but then I get what amounts to an error message and that's as far as it will go. Wondering if this change will help with that-? I have uninstalled & reinstalled the app but still no luck. On an Android device if that matters. Still love the DIS, just missing it on my phone.

After we move there will be no app. The entire site will be responsive for mobile, so you will not have to download an app for a mobile experience. Just show up on whatever device and the site will respond accordingly.

The URL's will go to the corresponding thread on the new boards, that's been tested and works great

Search- they tell me it's fast and accurate but it's not working yet so we shall see

Awesome! I have some 40 folders for different subjects and it will be a real pain to lose them all. Thank you.
