The Saga of our Disney Dream home - It's about time!

So it’s been a long time since I updated anything. We have been slowly but surely putting up pictures on our walls, and getting figures out of storage and deciding whether to keep them or put them up on eBay.

But we had a big happening the week before Christmas. I was at the eye doctor, when I get a call from Fran who tells me that someone from the City just came by and turned off the water to our house because there was a leak which was our responsibility to fix. She called the plumbers who came out and told us that they could fix it by putting in a new main line. Tomorrow.

This was around noon on a Tuesday, so it would be at LEAST 24 hours or Wednesday afternoon before we would have our water back. We got ourselves a couple 5 gallon buckets from the local home improvement store and filled them with water from the pool and placed them in all the bathrooms. Every toilet still had one flush left in it, and with the buckets of water we could refill the tanks, so at least we still had that going for us.

My dinner schedule says that we had planned to go out for dinner, but I don’t think either of us felt up to it. This was our first Tuesday of Christmas Break from band. I made us Crescent Dogs for dinner, I covered the pan in foil so I didn’t have to wash it. We ate off paper plates and they didn’t require any utensils. But boy did I miss the ability to wash my hands as often as I would have liked. Hand sanitizer really doesn’t cut it.

I don’t remember what we did for breakfast, but it wasn’t until 3-4PM that afternoon that we actually got our water back. We did OK, but certainly don’t want to live through it again! Here are some photos of the guys at work.

This all happened about two weeks before Christmas. In one of the pictures above you can see some of my Christmas decorations in the yard. Here is a picture of the house all lit up at night.

In PIO’s pictures she showed a flower bed right up near the door that everyone commented on. This bed of flowers needs to be replaced every few months as the plants sort of “outgrow” themselves and start to look pretty shabby. Just a couple weeks ago, I replaced the plants and here they are now.

In the next month or two we should be getting a lot done. My birthday weekend is coming up the first weekend in May and while most of it is taking place at the Villas at the Grand Californian in the Grand Villa, the last day we will be coming back to the house and continuing the festivities. Fran wants to have a lot of the pictures up, and figurines set in their places for that. It will be exciting to get some of our best pieces out of their boxes and up on the walls! But for now, that’s all I got!

Being without running water sucks! I think we forget how privileged we are living in 1st world countries where we don't have to walk miles to get fresh water.
Did the plumbers put the garden back satisfactorily for you and Fran?

Garden bed looks fantastic!

Here's to May.

Actually they did a pretty good job. This is the lawn just 10 minutes ago. You can't even see where they dug it up anymore.

What a pain about the water. At least they could sort this out relatively quickly. Your flowerbed is so beautiful.

Corinna

Lovely flowers and you can't even tell your lawn was dug up, they did a nice job putting it back together.

You're right, they did a great job covering it back up! Looks like nothing happened on that front lawn. Still sucks that all happened during your break, but I guess if it had to happen, that would be the best time.

Ugh, so you had to put in a new side sewer with basically zero notice? I am amazed they could even get out that fast and get it completed that fast but UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How fun to be getting stuff out for the party!

I'm with Corinna, what a pain! What happened? Did they say?

Love the yard, the flowers, the house, it's all beautuful!

Oh you did really well with your water out. Great idea to use disposable plates. Reminds me if when we had 'kitchen week' here. We had our kitchen re fitted so no oven, water out for parts of the day. We planned it all with microwave meals and bottled water etc like you. All disposble plates, kinves, cups etc. Costco came in real handy! I agree the hand sanitizer not that same. We had water in the morning so we had quick showers! But man was I glad for the new range cooker and water whenever when we got it :-) but ours was planned you guys pulled that out the bag on the day.

I love the lawn now. They did a good job. Love your Christmas decs. They are really cute.

Great re birthday in May. How nice to spend it at Villas at Grand Cal. I look forward to reading about that. Also to be able go get more or your precious items out. I bet you have some cool stuff that is just jumping out the box wanting a place in your nice cabinets.

WOW! That's amazing work.

Yeah, in the end, I was actually very happy.

You have a beautiful home, I loved seeing all the photos. Great inspiration!pixiedust:

Thank you very much!

I don't know what we would have done if they couldn't have taken care of it within nearly 24 hours. I have a feeling that the fact that we have had an account with them for over 15 years helped! :thumbsup2

Love the flowerbed!
So pretty

Thank you! And we redo it every4-6 months, so I get to play like Disneyland and take my inspiration from some of their flowers. I'm wondering if the last owner actually gave a "you know what" and just told the gardener to "put some flowers there". I care which flowers they are every time,

Yeah, all in all they did a good job. I actually enjoy picking out the different flowers for the different seasons. I'm not sure what I'm going to do for the next time.

It would have been better if we had to go to band, at least we would have planned dinner at a fast food restaurant. But it allowed us to have a pity party. :lmao:

Yeah, pretty much. These guys, (the plumbers) have been pretty good for us. I think they came out one on Christmas or Thanksgiving and cleaned a mainline that backed up. I'm not sure if it's the fact that we have an account, or they do that for everyone.

Well they were out earlier and said it was a leak on their end. All of sudden they come out and it's on our end now!

It was tough. I don't like losing my 21st century comforts! Running water and power are good. I'll have another update where we lose another comfort lately!

Found this thread from the link in your bday party thread. I'm in love with your backyard! Great fun following the adventures here!
