Taking walk ups at Skippers Canteen today?

Love love love the pager system. We walked by around 12:50. Were told it was 50 minutes. They took my phone number and we went over to the Jungle Cruise. 30 minutes later we were lounging in the comfy chairs by the restaurant entrance when our table was ready. Love the menu - wish we could have had one of everything. Does not sound like there will ever be alcohol. I asked about ADRs. Answer was they don't know when.

So happy we got to try it.

What did you order and what were your favorites?

OK..spiced rim! I thought for sure it was spiced rum as it states "spiced run" in the DIS write-up. I was wondering whether any spirits would be served.

Actually the menu looks interesting to me. The fish and seafood options look good! This is definitely on my list for our next trip. Even the fish collars look interesting. I mean, WDW was the first place that I tried alligator! I'm looking forward to trying something different. It really doesn't look that out there to me. There is fish, beef, pork, lamb, chicken and mac & cheese on the menu so I don't know what people would expect. Looks yummy!

1) We went there to check on the Soft Opening.
2) Alas, while still on Main Street, I was literally run over by an old woman on an ECV.
3) I was knocked to the ground and struck the curb.
. . . have a badly bloodied and sore left knee, and a wrenched back
. . . am walking on crutches
. . . fortunately, a CM was very handy and came to my rescue
. . . he inquired about my condition even before I had a chance to sit up
. . . then, he took me to First Aid
4) Will, have to wait a few days before I am brave enough to venture into MK, again.
Got run over by one at Hollywood on Sunday. Thankfully it wasn't as bad as that. But it definitely left a mark.

I could say the same thing about people who have allergies, but you see Disney bending over backwards to accommodate that population. Selective eating due to developmental disorders is just as limiting. Why don't they seem to care as much about that population?

Because allergies kill people. I'm sorry but that's a way bigger deal than someone deciding they don't "want" to eat something. I'm not saying they shouldn't care about that population at all, just that it's in a completely different category. If they don't have something you'll eat, you can go elsewhere, or order something different. If they serve something to DH that contains onions, it will kill him. Big frickin difference.

If anyone eats there - can you just buy the empty mug? With no drink in it? I guess you could just go to the bathroom and rinse it out....

Can't wait to hear some food reviews - especially the desserts :)

Mugs were out of stock today.

We walked up around 10:40 and gave our cell. Got the call 15 min later and were the first group in. Easy peasy!
Got to sit in the family room. Our family really enjoyed it. Ordered the steak w/ cimichurri, a noodle bowl, steak salad (had a little kick) and kids arepas. Everything was tasty. The waitress was very sweet. Not a lot of antics or jokes (just overheard a few) The decor is really lovely. We'd def. go back again I'll have to shrink photos...they're too large from the phone right now.

EDIT: Back to room, so a little more detail.
The steak was done exactly the way I asked, and I'll eat anything with chimichurri. yum. It came with three yucca fries (which are somewhat similar to fries if you've never had them, but I think they're actually tastier), and avocado. Husband had the noodle bowl and he enjoyed it. The prices are indeed more than we'd pay at home (but we're spoiled with amazingly cheap and good food where we live) but really not all that out of line for what we got. The kids meal seemed pricey, but it did come with milk and a really lovely dessert. That being said the arepas (which are also an adult appetizer choice) were pretty darn tasty if you like that sort of food (really good maize/cornbread) The staff seemed super enthusiastic to be there. I'd say it's probably the best food in the Magic Kingdom.

I'm waiting on ADRs like everyone else. I live nearby, but I just can't bring my 6-months pregnant self to go to MK with the crazy Christmas crowds for a walk-up. I really want them to open the ADRs so we can grab a couple of January or February when it will be quieter.

I read the menu out to my family to see what they thought. DS said he would eat the fish or the steak, DH whined and complained that it sounded "too weird" but agreed to try it.

My friend worked his first shift there yesterday, so I'm waiting to hear how it went and how the food is going over.

No. We asked because there were three of us but only two different drinks. We were told no, they will not sell mug alone. After our two came we liked the mugs so much we said we'd just get another slushie. That's when they said there were no more, we were the lucky ones who got last two.

They actually took them, washed/dried them and put in small brown shopping bag.

They will give you a Skipper Canteen bag to put your Mug in,so no need to rinse it out unless you just want to.:)

(If your Skip doesn't bring you a bag, just request one.)

Thanks!! They will give you a bag - good to know! Wow sold out of mugs already? In like 2 days? hahaha

Well it's been just over 8 hours since we first saw the menu, and I'd say the responses have been typical, and fall into the following groups

1. Yay! Love the look of the new menu. So glad to see items that aren't the usual boring American dishes.

2. Boo! There's nothing on this menu that my family or I would eat. Why can't they have all the usual boring American dishes that my snowflake will only eat?

3 It's too expensive.

4. Other ( or a combination of 2 of the first 3).

Our family would fall under #1. Did I miss one?

What? Your family falls under the one category that isn't demeaning or condescending to everyone with a different opinion?

I am shocked! Shocked I say!
