is it true that people steal from Fish Extenders??

You can read all about them here: http://growingupwiththemouse.blogspot.com/p/abo.html

Their next cruise is Aug. 2, 2017. Perhaps avoid that cruise if you want your magnets untouched? :)

I've seen their videos before and didn't like them. I didn't know they were messing around with people's magnets! How disrespectful. I'm around their age and I would never think about messing with someone's hard work and property. No one bothered our magnets on the Magic and I'm hoping they don't on our upcoming cruise.

If I see somebody do this i.e remove an item that is quite clearly not there FE I will be sure to ask them what they are doing. If it is the cabin guest then they would be only too happy I was checking. I would! I have no issue when a neighbour knocks on our door asking if everything is ok as they saw a stranger going into our house even if they were a friend. We need to police these FE theives guys! I may get some Police stripes for my wheelchair lol..deck police Polly..

What with al the cameras allegedly on these ships, I am surprised this happens so often. Guess no one is watching???

I agree with you after reading these post!
I would say still do it, do not let anyone else effect you. I have had mine taken, but I still have mine prepared for 30 days.

Try to beat them.

1/ Personalise.
2/ Attach wires etc.
3/ Zip pockets as suggested.
4/ Report what you see.

Personally, I think people messing with them are an exception than the norm. I definitely will not invest heavily into permanent magnets. We will just do printouts, laminate, and stick magnets to the back of them. I would not let these type of self righteous people ruin the enjoyment my daughter will have doing magnets and signs on the door.

We've done 3 cruises and on our middle one we had magnets stolen. It was a picture of our family superimposed on the ship so highly personal. We hunted high and low but never found it. We placed a note on our door asking for its safe return and were shocked and surprised when we received loads of gifts of other magnets from people passing who'd seen our note. It made us happy that there were many more nice people than mean spirited people on board.

We've been on 3 cruises and haven't had trouble. But its been a while, so things could change now. Do the gifts also disappear? Just trying to figure out if I have to come up with a way to secure the gifts as well as the FE.

That's nice. Good people around as well.
I had a young girl with a parent come up and admire my door, she told he she loved it and her parents said she came to my door each day to see what I put up.
I asked her what she liked best, and she liked Princesses, so I found a spare non personalised Princess for her to put on her door.

As you will see from this whole thread, yes gifts disappear.

Boo. I always have my FE secured but was never concerned about the gifts. I may have to come up with ideas on how to secure the gifts as well. :(

I can only say go regularly to your room.

Rooms in out if the way places will be safer, those near elevators will have more issues.

We regularly check our room, or are in it on sea days.

I've seen their YouTube videos when researching Disney cruises a while ago. Can't stand the lot of them.

Also, my toddler may admire magnets, but she knows to leave things alone/put things back..!! Those young women are something else in need of some dicipline and courses on respect.

Exactly. Hopefully most people teach their children as toddlers (or even very active babies) not to touch what doesn't belong to them. No excuse for anyone (of any age) to touch someone else's magnets.

We've never participated in FE but have had DVC magnets stolen twice a few years ago. My guess it was miscreants who hoped to get DVC gifts delivered to their cabin. Now the gifts are not delivered perhaps as a result of thieves like that.

On the plus side, we were pixie dusted with magnets from fellow cruisers twice last year. So sweet. And I agree with whomever posted that most people are good and would never steal or throw magnets on the floor.

As I said previously, personalized magnets have walked away from our door before. Apparently personalizing a magnet isn't much of a deterrent.
For our upcoming Alaska cruise we are still bringing magnets for our door, but, if they start to wander off, it will likely be our last time to do so. We don't invest much in magnets, I think we spent $5 last time, but it's the thought that someone on a darn expensive cruise would be so lacking in morals or self respect that they could take joy from stealing a kid's magnet.

We've already decided that this will be our final FE group.

It's sad that a few losers can easily ruin someone else's fun. That video was appalling, I'd love to send it to their friends and college administrators. I greatly appreciate the girl with the camera replacing the magnets, but for the rest of the group to be so gleeful about it was disheartening. If I found out my kids were doing something like that, they would have to go and apologize to each cabin, replace the magnets, and then would be grounded for life, possibly longer. It's not about it being a harmless prank, but a lack of respect for other people's property.

Our entire FE was stolen! I usually secure it with a zip tie but forgot to bring them and it disappeared on our b2b. It was fine during the Alaskan cruise, then walked away on the repo back to San Diego.

Well, I guess it's a roll of the dice so I think I will make one and if it lasts, that's great. I will definitely put our names & room # on the other magnets. Why must people ruin things for others - I should expect this I guess because I work for a Police Department!!! Somehow, I am always still amazed at crime even though I see it daily.

WORD OF CAUTION: Not to be the bearer of more negative ideas, but don't put your last names on your door. We have seen many stateroom doors announcing "The Smith Family", etc. But on one of our cruises, we heard a passenger at guest services complaining about unauthorized charges on their stateroom account. As they talked, they figured out that all someone has to do is have your stateroom number and last name to put charges on the account. So we have never put our family's name on our door.

Wow, this thread has really upset me now! I'm making cute magnets for our family doors, and participating in FE exchanges. I'm horrified to think someone would not only steal our things, but things I spent time making and give to someone else!!
I must admit I personalized our fish extender with our names to put off thieves. Sad that I even had to think of that :(

My husband made country flag magnets for our Med and Transatlantic cruise with the sheer knowledge that they might disappear. So he printed two sets: one set we made into magnets and the other set we kept at home. That way if the magnets did disappear, we had a printed set of the designs to make more or just keep as souvenirs. Now I only put out magnets that don't have special meaning -- those I put on the back of our stateroom door for us to see. I wouldn't let it discourage you, I would just go into knowing it could happen and that way you won't be so upset or shocked.

All of our thefts were when we had midship cabins. When we are in aft, it never seems like anything disappears or is moved. Could be that the "youth" don't go back that far :confused3

I wondered about this. :(

True thus does occur, and has occurred in a cruise for me, I had someone charge a lot of alcohol drinks at a bar to my stateroom, - however, my magnets didn't have our just name, but the person doing it, did have my last name.

I check my stateroom account regularly, spotted it, they had copies up in guest services, they showed these to me, and clearly when they charged it, 1/ we were in our room at that time, the room keys showed that, and 2/ it was nothing like my signature. They didn't use a card it was a manual, slip, that is rarely used nowadays.

Yes it occurred, on a cruise, but it was very easy to get it reversed off, and GS later told he, thry knew who did it.

Good to remember. I would guess that there would be a way for them to determine who charged the items based on possible security cameras. However, keeping tabs on your account is still a wise idea.
